Disney Every Day - Update 10/21 – 1, 2, 3! We’re Leaving for Orlando Tomorrow!

30 Day Disney Challenge: Day #29 Favorite Disney Theme Park

I’m not sure I could pick a favorite park. I mean, I guess it is Magic Kingdom, but I love them all! EPCOT has the food and all of the geeky stuff I like…Hollywood Studios has the closest things to “thrill rides” in the four parks…Animal Kingdom has more “thrill rides” plus the animals…

30 Day Universal Challenge: Day #29 Favorite Universal Theme Park

I really can’t answer this fairly, since I haven’t been to UO in 20 years or so, but I have a strong suspicion about what my favorite park will be!

30 Day Universal Challenge: Day #27 Saddest Death in a Universal Movie

By far, it was when Snape passed away! I cried like a baby when I read it in the book. I actually wanted them to save Snape in the movie! I knew that wasnt going to happen, but I didnt want to see him pass away again! It was so painful! When Harry was able to see Snapes memories, I just about lost it! It was so moving.

In my opinion, Snape's death is the saddest death ever in the history of ever! I actually haven't watched Deathly Hallows part 2 again since I saw in in the theatre and bawled. My best friend, Melora, let me cry on her shoulder during his death and all the way to the end of the movie because I couldn't stop crying. And we're talking like, ugly cry. In the middle of a packed theatre. With teenaged girls sitting behind me and laughing at the amount I was sobbing. Melora's shoulder was soaked from my tears by the time we left.

I’m sorry, but I literally LOLed at my desk at “ugly cry” :lmao: I was right there with you! I was bawling at that scene! Definitely an ugly cry over here, too! When Snape was holding Lily’s lifeless body… oh, I can’t take it! Not even now! Melora sounds like a good friend!

30 Day Disney Challenge: Day #30 Favorite Disney Theme Park Attraction or Ride

Again, how is it possible to pick a favorite ride??? First World/Disney World Problems  Speaking of First World/Disney World Problems:

30 Day Universal Challenge: Day #30 Favorite Universal Theme Park Attraction or Ride

Again, I have no idea what my favorite will be since this will be my first time going in about 20 years, but I am fairly certain it will be a WWoHP ride. My best guess is that it will be either Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey or Flight of the Hippogriff!

Good answers! Yeah, this was a lot of fun! I’m glad you played along :goodvibes I watched that video you linked (very good scene) and it sent me down a rabbit hole of all of these other Disney videos! :lmao: So, yeah, I’ve been super productive over the last hour! I’ll have to see if I can find another Disney challenge because it was a fun way to pass the month!

I just have to say that I think that Nicolas Cage was awesome in National Treasure... (I don't understand the hating on him...:confused3) & the movie made my nerdy little history loving heart sing...:goodvibes

30 Day Disney Challenge: Day #27 Saddest Death in a Disney Movie

That has to be in Finding Nemo when Coral, Nemo’s mother, and most of the eggs are eaten. The expression of pain on Marlin’s face was so real when he saw that all of the eggs were gone and there was nothing he could’ve done to save them or his wife. Then, it was such a relief when he found one egg left! Then, my heart was broken all over again when he named the little fish in that egg “Nemo”, which was his wife’s last wish.

I agree with both of these...::yes:: Do you know how long it was before I even let my kids see the very beginning of Finding Nemo? I thought they'd be traumatized because I was traumatized...

and as for Snape... don't even get me started... Seriously... sooo tragically sad... ( BTW...Honestly if I were J.K. Rawling... I'd have eased up on the Snape being physically unattractive thing... he's a bit dark but actually so brave and ultimately noble... I'd have made him more attractive... not pretty boy... but I don't picture him as sallow and greasy haired and all of that...)

Now the actor that played him in the movies... Alan Rickman is actually an attractive guy- although they played that down for the Snape character... Rickman is a brillant actor with an amazing voice...great choice... I just wished that they'd have let him be a bit more physically appealing...:confused3

I have loved these mash ups... where do you get them all?

I am a sucker for anything Disney related. I think you guys know that about me by now  Well, I was at CVS before work this morning and I saw these:

Clearly, I brought them :lmao: A Disney themed Christmas nightlight? What’s not to love??? I’m going to give them to the kids tonight to put in their rooms. Would they be embarrassed if they knew that I revealed that they both still use nightlights? Probably, but oh well! :rotfl: I’ll be the first to admit that I can’t sleep if it is too dark in my room. The kids, however, got into a habit of sleeping with their lights ON when we moved to our new house! It looked like daylight in their rooms! :rolleyes2 I can understand, though, because it can be difficult to get used to a change like moving into a new house. So I got them both nightlights a few weeks ago and we haven’t had a problem since then :thumbsup2 Way more than you wanted to know about my kids and their fear of the dark, huh? :lmao:

So, ANYWAY… when I got to work, I opened my bookbag and saw this flyer that I got in the mail last night:

I put the flyer in my bookbag so I would remember to look into this. A steel trap my mind is not! I totally forgot about it until I saw it in my bag! True and I saw “Disney on Ice – Dare to Dream” last year, I think. Maybe it was early this year. I can’t remember. In any case, Coy said he didn’t want to go, so I only got tickets for me and the girl. Well, Coy was so jealous by the time the show rolled around and he wanted me to get an extra ticket for him, but it was impossible at that point. We would have been up in the nosebleeds if I sold the two tickets I had and got three tickets just days before the show! We brought him back a souvenir, but I knew that I would have to get tickets for all three of us the next time Disney on Ice was in town. So when I saw tickets for “Disney on Ice – 100 Years of Magic”, I got tickets for all three of us to go. Just a couple of days later, I got tickets to “Disney’s Phineas and Ferb: The Best Live Tour Ever!” as well! I am a woman obsessed with Disney! So we saw those two shows earlier this year and we loved them both! Needless to say, when the flyer for “Disney on Ice – Treasure Trove” came in the mail yesterday, the kids hounded me about getting tickets. I said I would look into it in the morning and I hoped that I could still get good seats. Well, turns out that the tickets wouldn’t even go on pre-sale until this coming Tuesday and I had a code to purchase them today! I found some awesome seats! Much better seats than what we had the last three times! But… I had to check my budget first. I checked it and double checked it and… I pulled the trigger! I got us SECOND ROW CENTER SEATS!!! I actually hope that we aren’t too close! That’s a good problem to have, though ;) The show isn’t until February, so we have a while to wait, but it will be a nice thing to give us a little dose of Disney until our trip :dance3:

Yes, Nic Cage was amazing in that movie! I don’t get the hate, either. Sure, he has been in some terrible movies, but he has been in some really great movies as well :goodvibes My (then) husband and I saw Finding Nemo in the theater when Coy was only 4 and True was a little bitty baby. I was so glad that neither of them could truly grasp how sad the beginning of that movie was! I agree about how Snape didn’t necessarily have to be so unattractive in the books. I think the point could have been made without him having to be so physically unattractive because he had an unattractive personality. I started reading the books after I had already seen the first two movies, so I always had Alan Rickman in my mind when I pictured Snape. Alan Rickman is very attractive! Those soulful eyes and that beautiful speaking voice! Swoon! Nevermind that he is old enough to be my father! :lmao: I love a mature man! Daddy issues? Oh, and we share a birthday – February 21st! I’m glad you enjoyed the challenge! I got most of these pictures from Pinterest because there are A LOT of memes on there.

Oh wow you and AR share a birthday...:goodvibes Wow... and I have crush on him too... older man thing and all... ssshhhh... I don't think DH knows... but yes Daddy issues...:lmao: I don't usually follow celeb gossip but I was curious about him... and I read that he actually had speech therapy when he was younger... and WOW... sign me up for that speech therapy...:rotfl2:

I was driving and I saw a advertisement for the Dis on Ice... hmmm... I haven't seen one of those in a while...Thinking, thinking, thinking...

Is the Phineas and Ferb thing an ice show too? or something different? (we are all huge P & F fans....)

Thank you for the enabling ... I am planning on hitting the CVS later today when I run to the grocery store...:thumbsup2

WOOT! Those sound like fantastic seats! I wish they had Disney on Ice around here, maybe they do 100 miles away in St. Louis, but out here we never do. Don't forget to take pics (as if!) ;)

Love the nightlights, I wish my kids still used them, those are cute! Savannah does use her TV, however.

Yes, I am one of those people who religiously reads her horoscope. I am not ashamed of that. Well, I might be ashamed that I have not one, but TWO horoscope apps on my phone and I get a daily horoscope email from a third source. One of them has to be right…right??? So, this was my horoscope for today…well, one of them:

Monday, Dec 10, 2012 -- The thought of embarking on a trip is quite enticing now and you may be intent on finding a way to escape your responsibilities. However, you're less concerned about actually going anywhere in the present moment; you are happy just planning for the future. Keep in mind that it's not even necessary to follow through with your current dreams. The very act of imagining all the possible adventures today is like taking a mini-vacation in its own way.

Um…yes and no. Yes, I am content with planning for a vacation, but NO, this vacation cannot be just another plan that never comes to fruition! I have too many cancelled trips under my belt to allow for that to happen! Yes, planning the trips was a very comforting thing for me when I was going through hard times over the past few years – taking a pay cut at my old job, not getting child support from my ex-husband, getting laid off – but this upcoming trip can and will pan out! I definitely have a travel bug. I am happy that my kids are also afflicted with that condition! They want to go to WDW and UO very much, but they have also expressed an interest in going to other places. I’m sure we’ll go back to Boston again… we’ve been to Hershey, PA… Scratch that. We’ve been to Hersey Park but we have yet to see anything else around there. Coy wants to go to Las Vegas, the Caribbean, and California. True wants to go to New York, the Atlantis resort in the Bahamas, and Hawaii. I would LOVE to take the Mediterranean cruise on the Disney cruise line, and I would love to visit England and France with Adventures by Disney. What can I say? Disney is my favorite travel brand and I want to see what they can do abroad! I have been doing a little research on the cruises and the adventures, but I think the prices are going to keep me from taking the kids on trips like that for a few years. I’ve toyed with the Caribbean and the Mexican cruises that Disney offers. They are comparable to WDW prices and the cruises are only about 4 days, I think. So maybe in a couple of years we can do that.

I think the trips in the continental US that the kids want to take are doable. I went to Las Vegas once and it was fun. As I said before, I don’t like gambling, so I was able to see that there was a lot of stuff to do other than that. I even contacted the visitor’s bureau and got some information on what kids can do in Vegas. There’s actually a lot of stuff to do! I haven’t been to California since I was probably about 9 years old. So that was 30 years ago! Going there would be like a brand new place for me and for the kids! Of course, we would have to go to Disneyland and Universal Studios! I have only been to New York once and it was for a day trip up to the Apollo Theater. My boyfriend at the time was in a boy band ( I’m laughing at the term “boy band” but they were actually very talented :thumbsup2 ) and they were auditioning for It’s Showtime at the Apollo. Unfortunately, they didn’t make the final cut, but he and I got to walk around Harlem and shop at the street vendors. It was pretty exciting for a 19 year old! Now, I want to visit there, but I also want to visit NYC with the kids so we can go to the theater, see Central Park, go shopping, see the Statue of Liberty! Oh, and True has wanted to go to Waverly Place ever since she found out it was a real location and not just a show on TV! :lmao: I wish I could take the kids to Hawaii sometime soon! I went there several times as a teenager with my family, but I certainly can’t afford a trip like that right now. A room at Aulani isn’t really all that bad for Hawaii, but the flights are ridiculous! I know it doesn’t have to be Aulani, but as I said before, Disney is my favorite travel brand :goodvibes Plus, True saw the resort and she was amazed! Too bad it is so expensive to travel outside of the continental US. Speaking of which, I also priced out a cruise to Alaska! I was so excited when Disney started offering that destination! That cruise wasn’t so bad in price, but it is still a few years out, I think. I can imagine leaving the hot, sticky climate of Virginia in the middle of the summer to go to Alaska and not have to deal with temps over 70 degrees! I think the kids and I would get a kick out of seeing the wildlife!

Once I have been at this job for a full year, I can take every other Friday off in the summer because we have flex days. Basically, we work an extra hour for seven days and we can take a Friday off. Lucky for me, my first anniversary here will be at the beginning of June, which is right before the summer season for my company! So, I am already planning out a couple of long weekends for me and the kids! I am thinking about places where I can drive us within four hours. Of course, Hershey Park and Hershey PA are on the list! Philadelphia too, for that matter. I would say we might go to NY, but I really want to do that during Christmas one year. Maybe we could go to North Carolina. I’ve never been, I’ve only driven through! Myrtle Beach might be fun. I was surprised how fast we got there when we were driving to Disney - but that is more than four hours away.

Speaking of planning, I will get back to some trip planning on this report soon! :rotfl: There just isn’t anything left to plan right now! I have my ADRs all set for WDW. I have some dining plans coming together for UO, but nothing to actually show for them yet. I know where we are staying in WDW and UO. I know our dates. It’s just a matter of booking right now! :yay: Once we hit that 180 day mark, I think I’ll be able to get back into the swing of things with planning because I’ll have to start thinking about plane tickets, packing lists, and all sorts of stuff! Then there is the actual packing! :faint: It’s going to be fun, though! Wow! I guess my horoscope was right! The fun is in the planning! :lmao:

Oh wow you and AR share a birthday...:goodvibes Wow... and I have crush on him too... older man thing and all... ssshhhh... I would highly recommend Disney on Ice! It is so much fun, especially if you haven’t seen one in a while! P&F was a stage show. I was a little worried that the kids might not like it since it wasn’t an ice show, but I was wrong! That show was outstanding! There were a lot of acrobatics and dancing! The singing was a mix of pre-recorded and live, so there were a lot of songs that were from the cartoon in the show like Backyard Beach  I love that song!

Oh, yeah, Coy and True fall asleep with their TVs on every night! Sometimes they wake up when I turn them off! :rotfl:

I am super excited about those seats! We’ll probably have shaved ice flung at us from when the skaters spin! :lmao: I’m going to let you in on a little secret. This show is in Baltimore, so it is about 100 miles away! :faint: Crazy, right? BUT… I am thinking that we will make a whole weekend out of it! :yay: We’ll either get a hotel for one night and explore Baltimore a little bit (we love the harbor area) or we will stay with my sisters overnight (they live in Maryland) and hang out with them and our favorite puppy! I wanted to get the tickets for the shows in Virginia, but those shows were on my ex-husband’s weekend with the kids and I knew there was no way he would trade weekends with me. There was also no way I was going to miss a little Disney fix, so I went for it!

Darn they were out of those nightlights at my CVS...

I used to read my horoscopes everyday but I got frustrated... I'm one of those "cusps" people... I straddle Taurus and Gemini and I really cheated-picking the one I liked better for that day...

I'm a huge fan/advocate/planner/reader of travel... There are so many great places to see and experience... I don't know how anyone wouldn't want to travel... I can understand not have the funds but not not having the desire...:confused3

I have a travel bucket list on my phone and sometimes when I'm stuck in traffic/or a slow moving line... I play around with it... I have a domestic/US travel list and an out of the US list...

One thing that you are lucky with is living on the East Coast in respect that we do have lots of really interesting places that are drivable for us...(btw Philadelphia is actually an awesome place to visit... just saying...:goodvibes)

You probably take some of it for granted because you're right in Virginia but DC is awesome...people come to visit it from all over the world... and there are plenty of beautiful places in Virginia as well...:thumbsup2

California is a stunning state... and it has Disneyland... I agree the Disney travel brand is an excellent one...

You know... just thinking ... a really fun PTR game would be to see if there are places in any of the Disney parks-including the hotels... that are inspired by other places and make you want to go there...

ie World Showcase... any of the pavilions...wanting to go to that country... that's kind of an easy one... but how about Big Thunder Mountain making you want to go to the west... Arizona (Grand Canyon or Santa Fe, New Mexico) or Liberty Square making you want to go to Philadelphia or Williamsburg...

It would be fun... I'd play... just saying...:rolleyes1

:coffee:

Sorry it took me so long to reply, Patricia! I've been insanely busy. I'll get into it more if I get to write an update this weekend. Yeah, when I got those nightlights, those were the only ones left! Those and a Cars one - but I don't care for Cars. That's funny that you'd pick the best horoscope out of two! I love traveling and I can't wait until I have the finances to travel internationally with the kids. I absolutely LOVE living on the east coast! I used to go to Philly a lot when I was in my 20's but that was mostly to party ;) Now I want to actually soak in the history of the city. It was the same way with me when I used to go to DC when I was younger. My friends and I always went to DC just to go to the clubs or to shop. Occasionally, I'd visit the Corcoran museum. Once I had kids, I'd take them to the museums, the zoo, I even chaperoned a field trip for Coy's 1st grade class to the National Monument! I'm really glad to live so close to DC :goodvibes You're right that people can do the tourist thing right in their own backyards! The kids and I really do need to explore more of VA, though. We've been to the Shenandoah Valley plenty of times, but they've never been to Richmond or Hampton. Ooh! I'm getting all excited just thinking about traveling! Your idea for a travel challenge is great! I'll have to think about that so that we can play after the new year :yay: Thanks for that suggestion :thumbsup2

Hey Erin,

Hope you're having a great holiday week with the children...:goodvibes

Looking forward to your next update when you get a chance...

popcorn::

Happy New Year Erin! I hope 2013 is filled with many wonderful things for you and your kiddos. (including Disney!) pixiedust:

Happy New Year, everyone! I’m sorry I have been MIA from the boards, but thank you for the Christmas and the New Year’s wishes on my PTRs! Christmas/New Year’s has been busy for me at home and at work, but I hope to update you guys soon! Any downtime that I had at home was spent watching Doctor Who. Yes, I am really into that show now! I am only on the beginning of Season Three, so no spoilers! I blame Pinterest for this new obsession of mine! So many people pinned Doctor Who related stuff that I became curious! Pinterest and the DIS are my two guilty pleasures! So I’ve got to get back to updating my PTRs! I have craft projects piling up and movie nights to do! Oh, and there is the actual planning! I have just over a month until I make my ADRs, and I want to have my dining plans for UO situated by that time, too. Lots to do! Hopefully, it’ll make time fly until my vacation!
