Disney entry / security queue time at rope drop / 8:30

Hi all - I just wanted to ask if anyone can help guide me as to how long it takes to enter the park at park open.

we will be staying at the contemporary and can therefore make use of the 8:30 early half an hour.

Should we aim to be at the MK or HS gates at 8:15 and assumes a 15 mins queue to get through security (so we are at our first ride between 8:30 and 8:40) or are the entrance queues much longer?

With new security you just walk right through and they only pull you aside if the alarm goes off.
Its a pretty constant walk up and through.

However if you want to be among some of the fist in the parks you'll want to arrive more like 30 minutes prior to opening.

Thank you. Very helpful. We are in no rush to be amongst the first in the park - for HS we play to do smugglers run and for MK we plan to do buzz light year, so as long as we can be in the queue between 8:30 and 8:40 we are ok with that (we will be using ILL and genie +).

If you walk from the Contemporary to MK, your security checkpoint is along the path just after you cross the street. If you take the monorail, the checkpoint is on the 4th floor of the Contemporary near the shops. We've never waited more than perhaps a minute at either location (may be a bit longer if you have a stroller or wheelchair).
