Disney Ends Evening EMH Monorail Service

Interesting, thanks for posting. When staying CR or BLT we usually walk over but @ the end of the day it's nice to know that the monorail was there if we were tuckered out! Have you called DVC to register your concerns?

Really? I always thought that the ramp up to the MK Monorail station was much more strenuous at the end of the night than the walk to BLT.

I do think it decreases the value of owning at BLT.

On the contray, I think it makes BLT all that more appealing since you can walk from MK. Granted, it will suck for EP EMH, but I think it is a huge benefit for MK EMH. Before we bought at BLT, we never did MK EMH because after dinner we never felt there was enough time to get to MK and enjoy EMH.

It is eaier IMO, plus the walk through/from CR is additional as well.

Agreed-esp compared to any future POLY or GF additions. That said I would still vote to keep it operating. Plus cutting deluxe perks seems odd anyway.

.

ha ha, no, i just convince myself it's the last ride of the night;) there are mobility/low vision issues (especially in the evening-dim lights) in my family which are a consideration too.

don't get me wrong, when fortunate enough to stay @ BLT (see ticker:woohoo:) we will walk over to MK, then back to room to actually check into our unit, then monorail back over.

I really have no dog in the fight, as we rarely do pm EMHs anyway as they just seem too crowded, yet i will protest any service cut that possibly affects the value of DVC/resales on principal.

While I have never stayed at a monorail resort and always wanted to stay at the Poly I just don't like the idea of cutbacks. Maybe it is really true that its a maintenance issue and this will help preserve the system but it is still a cutback. And once this cutback has been around awhile and people forget about it, then more things will be cutback. That is the issue that i have. Disney cuts things out left and right and we pay more for less and less. They just raised ticket prices and took off another perk just weeks later.

Maybe we need to pick and choose our battles with Disney but still someone needs to stand up and fight the greed.

I am not sure whether this has much of an impact on BLT. Monorail will run until one hour after park closing. From MK it is faster to walk to BLT than to wait in line and take monorail. At Epcot, the extra magic hours start at 7 and end at 10 which means you can still catch the monorail.

Don't EMH at Epcot end at midnight??

Evening EMH (used to be?) defined as 3 hours past normal closing.
Although that is confusing in EPCOT because world showcase usually is not included in EMH.

Epcot overall closes at 9, but actually about twenty minutes after because Illuminations starts at 9.

However, the attractions and rides in Future World shut down at 7. EMH applies to those and goes from 7 to 10.

Future World now officially stays open until 9:00, but some attractions do close at 7:00. The major attractions (SPaceship Earth, Soarin, TT) have always stayed open until 9:00. Epcot EMH has always been 9 to midnight for both sides.

I stand corrected. That is a change from the last time we did EMH at Epcot which was a long time ago when it was always 7 to 10. It has not always been 9 to 12.

I am just curious to see if Disney will say anything else on the matter. Maybe explain it a bit more.

I see MK is open just as late as EPCOT EMH those nights-any chance they will keep to that schedule anyway? It looks like just once a week anyway.

Wonder if closeing 1 hour after regular park hours means the monorail will not be operating for the evening parties - MNSSHP & MVMCP?

Also in December MK closes at 7pm on many nights so the monorail would close down at 8pm. I guess no more late dinners at Ohana's or Citricos then back to the BLT.

It won't be running during parties according to the articles that where posted on the Theme Parks board.

I have to say that I am disappointed in the news. All resorts on the monorail line are deluxe accommodations with guests paying premium for the monorail service. I can't justify a heavy point use or and expensive stay to be near MK but shuttled on bus to arrive.

It really does lack the luster to stay at any monorail resort without the monorail.

In the article:

Disney said it has not yet decided whether it will operate the trains during extra ticketed events — such as Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party or Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party — that are staged many nights in the Magic Kingdom during the fall and early winter.

Good point (other than boats/buses) but also can you see a GF or POLY guest going to California Grill at CR/BLT and finding it shut down that early-not happy. Heck even Chef Mickey must get a lot of monorail exposure after 7PM.

I think the thing that surprises me is that it is cutting services provided to deluxe re$orts.

Not only is it affecting travel to/from MK but also getting to resorts on the monorail loop. If all the monorails close down every night 1 hour after regular park closings then it won't be as convenient to travel the loop for dining or shopping. Also, with so many party nights for halloween and christmas that's a lot more nights with monorails stopping at 8pm. And during certain times of the year Disney closes parks early (7 or 8PM) but something nice to do was a late dinner, drinks or entertainment at another resort.

You make some great points here that I hadn't thought of, particularly when the the parks close early. Park closes at 7pm and you have a 7:30 reservation at the Poly or GF, finish dinner at 8:45 and the monorail has been shut down for 45 minutes!

There is some unclarity in the announcement. I do not see how they can possibly shut down the MK resorts monorail before about 10:30 even if MK closes much earlier. The Epcot monorail will be running at least until 10 p.m. daily. Are they really saying that MK resort guests who leave Epcot at 9:30 or so are to be stranded once they get to the TTC via the Epcot monorail?
