It's such a slow weekend, what do you all have going on?

Hey Jessica.... I've been gathering a bunch of notes and bits of info about our trip. Swimming, taking it easy. :thumbsup2 We've been working on our basement quite a bit so this weekend is all about being lazy! :rolleyes1

Thats cool, how close is the basement to being done now? I have so much down time this weekend, I don't' know what to do with myself :rotfl2::confused3 Have a relaxing weekend :)

Oh it's got a while to go still. 95% of the digging is done. George has optimistically guestimated the end of summer to have it done but I've learned to double his guesses .... :rotfl:

Here's a few pics of what we're doing. Just to reiterate, my home is an early 1800's Victorian farmhouse. We've lived in it 12 years now and have renovated it in bits in pieces over the years but never touched the dirt basement. Frankly, we avoided it at all costs. Freaked us out to have to go down there.

Shield your eyes... it's not a pretty site! :sad2:

We've fondly referred to the half brick wall along the front and east side of the basement as the 'sacrificial altar'. It honestly looked like somewhere that dinner (or anything else  ) would be, um.... led to the land of the non-living? :scared:

The blue is a spray foam we had installed a few winters back to help with the heating of the house. It's a good indicator of how far down its been dug out now.

We set up a conveyor system and over seven days, worked to get all the brick and dirt out.

Remember the blue?

So there you have it. I'll post more pictures as we progress along. Maybe by the time of our trip, it'll be done. ;)

We've been swimming a lot recently with this heat wave that doesn't seem to want to let up. Demetri has always LOVED the water but has until now been afraid to go under the water. Even getting his face wet would make him nervous.

Not anymore!! Check out what Mr. Daredevil decided to just up and do last week??

:cheer2:

Wow! You are brave brave people to tackle that basement. It will be worth it in the end though.

Demetri is getting so BIG! Why do they grow up so fast?

wow I don't think I would be brave enough to tackle that basement :scared1:

I can't wait to see what it looks like when it's done!!!

The basement looks GREAT!!! Wow you all have been working hard, from the first picture to the last is such a big difference, can't wait until it's done.

What will the room be used for? My husband wants a basement so it can be "the man room".:sad2:

Demetri is such a cutie. LOVE the video. so fun. He has gotten brave. I finally got my boys getting their hair wet, but that is about it. And Joey does it upside down so his face doesn't get wet :rotfl: I'll have to take a pic and show you on my ptr, lol. Are the pools open in December or will your trip be pool free?

Scary wasn't it? :scared1: I really can't wait until it's done!

George has been wanting to tackle it for soooo long, he's happy to see it starting to take shape. :thumbsup2

Yep, this will pretty much be a 'man room' too. I'm hoping to furnish it with a lot of stuff we already have.... then I'll need new stuff to replace them! :rolleyes1

On our last WDW trip on our resort/swim day, Demetri decided it was OK to jump from the sides to Daddy's outstretched arm and loved it. But when we came back home, he didn't want to anymore.

Now that he's Mr. Daredevil, I asked him what changed his mind and he said, "One day, I looked at the bottom of the pool and wanted to see if I could touch it." :rotfl: We just totally let him do it at his own pace and now he can't get enough of it.

The pools will be open, and Blizzard Beach too. The water is heated to something like 82 or 84 degrees or something like that, but if the air is cool I'll be shivering like crazy and it won't be fun. I hope it's warm!

Now you've got me wanting a basement... :scratchin
A Disney Trip Planning Room if you will...

Love the swimming pics... Very cute!!

oh man, a man room, :lmao::rotfl2: but you are very smart:teacher:, that does make you need new furniture :cutie:

My living room furniture is almost fifteen years old. Classic black leather that is still in pretty good shape. Alas, it's time for something new. ;)

George emptied the basement of his tools today, putting everything away. Alex said that made him verrrry happy. :rotfl: Hard work done!

Arrival Day

This time around, we again have a mid day flight out of Buffalo that has us scheduled to arrive at the Pop likely just before dinner. No scavenger hunt this time, and I’m not sure what the weather will be like, so chances are we’ll head straight to Walmart for souvenirs and room snackies, then on to dinner. The difference this time around is I went ahead and got the dining plan for our first day so instead of McDonalds, we can grab a counter service at the Pop.

I really like getting our souvenirs at Walmart on the first day. They usually have the same items that are sold in the parks at half the cost, so taking our time and choosing everything as soon as we get there lets us discriminate more when buying stuff in the parks or the resort. It works for us.

So that in a nutshell is our arrival day!

I forgot to mention a few things about arrival day. I'm not sure I mentioned this already, but when I was switching my reservations over to the free dining, I also gave my Magical Express info, so that's all set. We're scheduled to arrive at MCO at 1:30pm. :thumbsup2

I'm also going to mention at the front desk that it's Kathryn's first trip and ask for a first trip button. Even if she gets one free thing, or one special moment from a CM commemorating her first trip the whole time, it'll be worth it. :goodvibes I did tie the first trip thing into our main ressie too, but just in case, I'm going to ask for it. :thumbsup2

I also want to decorate our room window this time. I'll going to cruise the dollar store for clinging window decals and see what I can come up with. :thumbsup2

Oh, and of course, while I was at Home Depot recently, I tucked a small stack of lime green mickey heads in my purse. :rolleyes1 I'm really hoping to meet a few DISers and that'll help anyone who happens to cross my path see who I am.... so look out for me! :thumbsup2

Now onto a few non-arrival day items.

I called Disney Dining yesterday and asked about the sharing of the table services on our last day. The CM told me they're not supposed to do that, but it would be up to the restaurant if they allowed us to. I figure we'll try and if they poo-poo it, we'll just order something tiny out-of-pocket so everyone is happy. So I'm officially going with......

whisperingcanyon.jpg

Whispering Canyon Café in Wilderness Lodge!!

I looked into the transportation from Pop to Wilderness Lodge and decided to bus it to MK and then take a boat. :yay: They recommend giving yourself an hour, to an hour and a half to make the journey, so I bumped our breakfast to 10:15am. :thumbsup2

I also have a small surprise I want to share with you all. I was going to wait until my Epcot day update, but I just can't wait. A while ago, Katie (Bippity Boo) had an update on her PTR showing a carriage cage pendant, perfect for holding a pick-a-pearl. I admired it (and the cost!) but didn't pursue it because I'd never bought anything off of eBay before (shocking, I know) and didn't have any accounts or anything set up. I kept thinking about it and then just decided to do it. I set up the account and bought them! :woohoo: You slide a chain thru the top to close them.

carriagepearlcage.jpg

The part you have to keep secret though :ssst: , is that I bought three of them. One for myself, one for Ariana, and one for Kathryn. I'm not going to reveal the surprise until after we've done the pick-a-pearls. I think it will be a lovely gift for her, don't you think? Thanks Katie!! :thumbsup2

Lastly, I don't think I've ever officially answered the ABC's of Disney multiple choice questions I've been including in my updates. :scratchin

Which movie has this quote: "It's the same year after year, they come, they eat, they leave; that's our lot in life. It's not a lot, but it's our life."

Fake Bonus points: Who said it?

The answer is: The Queen said that in a Bug's Life!

Your arrival day plans sound great so far! I am sure that Kathryn will be able to get her 1st visit button. :thumbsup2

I have to say you really know your Disney movies! Those quotes are hard! The only one I knew was the Bug's Life one. LOL.

Those look so cute! I love pick a pearl. :)

And you'll meet up with me at some point, so that will be fun!!!!
