Disney Dream premiere of Beauty & the Beast!!

The show was fantastic. It officially starts on this next cruise so they informed us it was a preview. They’ve rehearsed it plenty but we were the first audience. I noticed the theater was absolutely freezing so dress appropriately.

The performers were definitely Broadway caliber. Belle in particular had the acting and singing perfectly. Be Our Guest had gorgeous costumes and Lumiere really sold the song. I loved how they did Lumiere and Cogsworth (like an intricate puppet but I won’t spoil the details!!) Gaston and LeFou has great comedic timing. The song “Gaston” had some great dancing and use of two chairs actually made for some complex choreography.

There were definitely technical glitches (audio was on for a person giving spotlight directions a few times, Mrs. Potts microphone was too quiet) and when the Beast transforms (don’t worry no spoilers!) something definitely went very wrong and he and Belle had to walk off stage.

The most incredible part of the show were the sets. I’ve never seen anything like it and have seen many shows in NYC and on ships. They implemented a ton of digital technology and the backdrops were digital and changed many, many times throughout each scene. Imagine running and the screens are moving in time with the character running through the field... or imagine Belle going into the library and seeing thousands of books projected on a wall. There were two half staircases, some rolling doorways and that’s about it, but with the digital screens it made for the most incredible set I’ve seen that was just gorgeous to look at.

I don’t want to give too much away and take away the magic, so be SURE to catch this show if you’re on board.

We were at the second show last night and I didn’t notice any glitches so they must have fixed them between the two shows. It was great!

We have yet to sail the Dream, but this is going to push me, I love Beauty and the Beast!

Glad you enjoyed the show!
Have fun!

We are cruising Friday and BATB is what made me book!! Cannot wait...loved it on Broadway. My favorite Disney show/movie. Maybe I'll finally think that the shows on the ship ARE Broadway caliber. ;-)

Thank you for the sneak peak review. We are taking our first cruise on the Dream in two weeks. I have not checked around to find this out yet, but does anyone know which night of the cruise on a 4 nighter the BATB show will run?

Thanks

This was the first one where I truly thought it could stand up to a Broadway show (with the exception of the first-run/preview glitches). Based on talent, dancing, sets, acting and singing, it was really amazing. If you have a choice where to sit (and get there early! we arrived at 5:15 and there were tons of people waiting for the 6pm show), I would suggest sitting in center orchestra but SLIGHTLY to the right as there's a little additional action in a few numbers at the top of the aisle where it meets the stage on the right side (actually stage left, but orchestra right).

Thanks for the tip! I guess we'll plan to be there at 5:00!

December 11th Cruise, cannot wait to see this show!!

I booked the December 15th cruise to see this. BATB is my absolute favorite Disney movie. Can't wait!

Will it be running in 2019? We booked on the Dream over the kids spring break. I LOVE Beauty and the Beast. So awesome!

We are really looking forward to seeing this show on our upcoming March cruise.

Oh... I'll have to pick my sisters friends brain as she was on that cruise (if it wasn't Wine and Dine weekend my sister and brother in law would of joined them as well)

I too was on this Dream cruise and was thrilled to get this preview. I even asked the head server about the show on the first night and expressed how disappointed I was that I was missing the premier of the show. It wasn't until they announced the news after Saturday night's show did I realize his reaction to my question on Friday actually gave away that we would get the preview! I was so excited. We lined up about 45 minutes ahead of the show and there were already many people in line. The show was very full compared to other shows, so I would plan accordingly if you want a good seat. It was awesome. The set was amazing. It is definitely a nice change!

Looking forward to seeing when we cruise in December. Which night of the cruise do they perform?

It definitely will be still running in 2019. Even Disney’s bad shows run for a lot of years. I’m guessing this will be liked by most guests. It still might be running in 2029.

Cinderella came to magic in July 98 still being played.

Disney dreams came to magic and wonder in 03 still being played.

Golden mickeys August 99 on wonder still being played.

Hercules lasted for 9 years. Never seen the show.

Toy story lasted for 8 years a bad show imo.

Villains tonight lasted for 5 and a half years on magic. 6 and a half years on dream. A bad show imo.

So as you can see beauty and the beast will be around for a long time.
