The show was fantastic. It officially starts on this next cruise so they informed us it was a preview. They’ve rehearsed it plenty but we were the first audience. I noticed the theater was absolutely freezing so dress appropriately.
The performers were definitely Broadway caliber. Belle in particular had the acting and singing perfectly. Be Our Guest had gorgeous costumes and Lumiere really sold the song. I loved how they did Lumiere and Cogsworth (like an intricate puppet but I won’t spoil the details!!) Gaston and LeFou has great comedic timing. The song “Gaston” had some great dancing and use of two chairs actually made for some complex choreography.
There were definitely technical glitches (audio was on for a person giving spotlight directions a few times, Mrs. Potts microphone was too quiet) and when the Beast transforms (don’t worry no spoilers!) something definitely went very wrong and he and Belle had to walk off stage.
The most incredible part of the show were the sets. I’ve never seen anything like it and have seen many shows in NYC and on ships. They implemented a ton of digital technology and the backdrops were digital and changed many, many times throughout each scene. Imagine running and the screens are moving in time with the character running through the field... or imagine Belle going into the library and seeing thousands of books projected on a wall. There were two half staircases, some rolling doorways and that’s about it, but with the digital screens it made for the most incredible set I’ve seen that was just gorgeous to look at.
I don’t want to give too much away and take away the magic, so be SURE to catch this show if you’re on board.
This was the first one where I truly thought it could stand up to a Broadway show (with the exception of the first-run/preview glitches). Based on talent, dancing, sets, acting and singing, it was really amazing. If you have a choice where to sit (and get there early! we arrived at 5:15 and there were tons of people waiting for the 6pm show), I would suggest sitting in center orchestra but SLIGHTLY to the right as there's a little additional action in a few numbers at the top of the aisle where it meets the stage on the right side (actually stage left, but orchestra right). We are cruising Friday and BATB is what made me book!! Cannot wait...loved it on Broadway. My favorite Disney show/movie. Maybe I'll finally think that the shows on the ship ARE Broadway caliber. ;-)

I would think so.Will it be running in 2019? We booked on the Dream over the kids spring break. I LOVE Beauty and the Beast. So awesome!
I don't doubt it will be. Shows need to run several years to recoup the cost laid out to mount them. Will it be running in 2019? We booked on the Dream over the kids spring break. I LOVE Beauty and the Beast. So awesome!
