Disney Dream - June 9, 2013 - 4 night

Good evening! I am new to the DisBoards and to Disney cruising. I understand from a friend who recently cruised on the Dream that there is a wonderful activity- Fish Extenders that can be done amoungst cruisers. Does anyone on the forum know if it has been organized and or how to go about "joinning" the fun?

I look forward to hearing more! We are just beside ourselves with excitement!

Sincerely,
MommyJax

Good morning. If you look back a few posts we do indeed have a FE group with over 20 cabins participating. We had closed the group a few weeks back to allow enough time for everyone to make their special gifts, personalize them, etc, We drew a line on the list and have added a couple of folks at the bottom, but we cannot promise they will receive gifts from all the cabins, as many folks had already completed their gifts at this point. Some of us have extras, so if you are willing to take that chance, you can provide me with your cabin #, number of adults and their sexes, and number of kids by sex and age. We use terms like DH for Disney husband and DS for Disney son and so on. Welcome aboard. We will also have a meet up at 3:00 pm on sailing day by the Mickey pool as well.

RunnerOmom,

Any more details about Star Wars weekend? Was the merchandise tent nuts? My husband has a list of things he wants to buy and that's his first stop.

My fish extender is built - it's not straight, but it's built. Most of the gifts are done. The t-shirts are made.

Another few days and I should be ready to go. I think.

The Darth Mall shop wasn't bad, we went after riding Star Tours first thing (where my younger Ds finally got to be the rebel spy). We wanted a picture with the rancor, but didn't want to wait in line for the character photo. So we took pictures from outside the fenced area. My kids made their own droids and had fun. I had my eye on a Darth Vadar chocolate cupcake that I need to go back for! :-) Its getting so close!!!

Congrats on your kiddo being the rebel spy. My DH and DD seem to have the gift of being picked. I've even managed once. It's a little surreal.

You and I think alike. My husband saw the photos of merchandise (and characters) on one of his websites. The darth vader cupcake called to me as well.

Arwen wanted the rancor as well. I think we'll go first thing while people are still pulling fast passes.

Thanks for the info.

We leave in 5 days!!!

I was able to pack up all the FE's and get them in a bag. I do just want to warn you that I may just be leaving them all in your gift bag and leaving it at the door / FE. You will understand it when you get it. I also have my sisters gifts in the same thing.

I started laying out clothes / outfits yesterday and realized that I cannot find my daughters dress for pirate night. We moved last weekend and it's somewhere but it's not showing up. I desperately contacted the lady on Etsy and she rocks! She shipped me a new one today!! I know as soon as the new one gets here, the other one will show up. That's the story of my life.

For those of you that have done the pillowcase thing, did you put something in between it so they don't bleed, or do they do that?? Kind of sounds like common sense to me that they would do it. Or should I just say screw the pillowcase and go with the mat?

And back to the packing...

Everything that I have read say to pack then take 50% of the clothes out. I find that hard to do. I feel like I need two outfits per day since you need to be a little "dressier" for dinner. And same with shoes - flip flops, Keens, and tennis shoes (although I may leave those in the car) and then I need a "nice sandal". I know my girls will be wearing their Keens with their sundresses, but then they need their swim shoes too.

I put a flat clipboard inside the pillowcase. This works wonders! also, if you use it while at Disney and have to stand in line to get the autograph, secure the pillowcase with giant binder clips so that it wont move around when being signed.

How many bags total do we get to carry on with us? Is it one per cabin, or one per family? 2 more days of school left...

Everyone- don't forget some small cable ties to secure your FE in place. We used nail clippers to take it off at the end. I will bring the lanyards to our 3 pm meeting for those who had asked. Counting down!!

Whatever you bring on you have to carry everywhere like to pool, lunch, lifeboat drill. So keep that in mind. We likely will have two
Beach bags with swim suits (and beer) and my purse. I don't think there is a limit per we, but you don't want to be weighed down with bags. And I know the alcohol rules limit how big of a bag you can have.

I think you know exactly why I asked that question! I had planned to do just as you are doing. Thanks for the answer. And also thanks for the reminder about the zip ties and nail clippers!

Hi to all!

Thank you for your consideration and allowing us to join the fun! I wish I would've known about this sooner! :( I totally understand that my little ones might not receive a gift from everyone but if there is time to throw us into the mix we would love to join the clan. We will have a FE gift ready for everyone on our end.

Cabin- 7580 Salter
1- H
1- W
1- DD- (7)
1-DD- (2)

Thank you again! Also, would it be possible to get a full list from you so I can make sure we have something for everyone? I am just learning to familiarize myself with this board. Do most cruisers do a FE gift for each member of the family or give one gift per family? Do you all have a suggestion on how to make a FE since I am short on time?

Most sincerely, MommyJax

This is our first Disney cruise and first cruise as a family (with little ones). Has anyone registered their toddlers (age 2) for the "children's camp"? Do I do this ahead of time or at the port? Does anyone have experience from previous trips? Is it good? Also, are there any little girls around age 7 going into the camp? My daughter would love a buddy, I am sure!

Does anyone have tips that would be helpful for packing, items helpful to have with a toddler on board that cannot get in the pools, tips on set up/functionality of cabin, anything that needs to be pre-arranged, Pirate's Night information (my daughter is afraid this will be scary)!

Thank you for any and all suggestions!

Hope to meet you all soon!

Sincerely,
MommyJax

I just updated the list...see my post a couple after yours. It's up to you and I think everyone does it a little different...some are doing personalized gifts for kids, some are more family gifts...it's totally up to you. Welcome aboard. As for FE...I keep describing them almost as a mini
Shoe hanging bag...so wonder if you could get one of those and then bedazzle it? Other suggestions?

Thats a lot of questions! As you can see from the FE list, we have quite a few little girls in our mix. My DS who is an old cruising pro is age 7 too.

Years ago we sailed when our younger son was about 12 months. He slept in the pack and play in the room...imagine yours would sleep in bottom bed and 7 yr old in bunk? The water play area is nice for the kids that can't go in the pool- they will still need swim pants. No restrictions on the private island going in the water. Nursery is nice and you need to book any times you want for this babysitting service that you pay for.

As for the children's clubs...she will have a blast! Oceaneers Lab and club have a little bit of everything for the kids and tons of activities. If you check in online, you can pre register your 7 yr old for the clubs and be able to get the wrist band quicker at the port before you get on the ship. If you can, do all your registration, check in, eye online ahead if time. This includes reserving shore excursions as well.

Pirate night has a little darkness to it, but Mickey Mouse saves the day. And the fireworks off the ship are pure magic. Will you be at WDW before or after the cruise? Are you from Jacksonville, Florida? Looking forward to meeting everyone soon.

I tried a quick search at work. What's up with the weather?

Well it's been raining off and on here in s Florida for a week solid. I'm a bit of computer nerd and have seen some forecast models showing more significant weather next week. Since models are just that (predictions) I wouldn't get alarmed and certainly don't want any first timers to fret. But I'll keep you posted if you want. Hopefully it will all be on the gulf side by the time we sail.

Wow...
I never thought it would all get done. I made gifts for everyone and got them all wrapped up. All of my gifts are boxed up and ready to ship to our hotel tomorrow. My hubby WILL NOT let me pack them on the airplane :headache:

I am worried that they will somehow end up misplaced, though he swears that the box will be waiting at our resort.

I love my FE that my mom made. For not knowing that this thing is all about, I think she did a fabulous job!

See you all in 10 days!!! I just can't wait!!!

Whew, it's been crazy but I'm almost done with the FE gifts! I'm hoping everyone likes them! (: not too much longer until the cruise!
