Disney Dream - June 12, 2011

Hi All,

Hope everyone is well.....

Just wanted to say that I love the logo...great job.

Rose - we are from Liverpool, NY and have been in Virginia since 1995.

Have a great weekend everyone!!

We are also on our fourth ice/snow day. We got about six inches last night here in the burbs, so I'm working from home again. The boys went out in their ski gear to a local hill and had so much fun. Even my DH went sledding. I'm cooped up at home after my third chemo infusion yesterday. Only have one more of the tough stuff in two weeks, then two weeks off, then 12 weeks of taxol. I asked my doc yesterday about going on the cruise. She said I can go, but I need to know that I'll still be exhausted and the trip won't be like previous ones. She said it would be a good mental goal. Still trying to decide if we will go or if we will delay until next summer. I'm leaning towards still going. Does anyone on this cruise thread have any experience with going on a trip so soon after chemo or a friend that has?

Thanks.
Marci

You're in my neck of the woods. We live on Quantico Marine Corps Base.:)

Welcome Joyce and family!!
We had school cancelled here too. We are in San Antonio so very rare occurence here.
I think the temp just went above freezing for the 1st time since Tuesday!!!

We are me, Nancy sons Aaron 21 and Nathan 18 (celebrating Nathan's high school graduation) and Nathan's girlfriend Melissa 20

We did a Carnival cruise for Aaron's HS graduation. Although it was amazing, they still missed going to Disney (we have gone to WDW every other year or so since they were very young)

So now everyone is very excited to be going on a Disney cruise this time!! We are all "disney fanatics" But this will be our 1st Disney cruise!!:dance3:
Come on June!!:yay:

We are celebrating my daughter, Emily's, graduation, too! and get this--small world--her boyfriend, Ryan, 19, is coming with us--and--He lives in San Antonio, too! He is a Freshman at Texas Lutheran University. I guess they will have another couple who will have something in common with them, somewhat, anyway. That's great!:cool1:

One month from today it will be March 4th, why is that important? Because we will then be 100 days out! Okay so I'm a bit weird that way but I'll do anything to make it seem like June 12th is getting here sooner!

Hi everyone. Happy Friday!

Does anyone know the scoop on passports? Are they a requirment for our cruise? Rob and I have current ones, but my kids' passports have expired. I have birth certificates for all of them and they all have military ID's, too.

Thanks for any help.:goodvibes

This is from the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative website:

""Closed Loop" Cruises: U.S. citizens who board a cruise ship at a port within the United States, travel only within the Western Hemisphere, and return to the same U.S. port on the same ship may present a government issued photo identification, along with proof of citizenship (an original or copy of his or her birth certificate, a Consular report of Birth Abroad, or a Certificate of Naturalization). Please be aware that you may still be required to present a passport to enter the foreign countries your cruise ship is visiting. Check with your cruise line to ensure you have the appropriate documents."

The web address is http://www.getyouhome.gov/html/lang_eng/eng_sa.html

Our cruise meets the criteria listed above so we don't have to have passports. With that being said, passports make things easier and faster when going through Customs and are required if an emergency were to arise and you needed to fly back early instead of take the ship back to the port of origin. Personally I wouldn't feel comfortable traveling without a passport. Many travel websites highly recommend passports to the point of implying they are required (including Dreams Unlimited), mainly because of the potential problems that could arise by traveling without one.

Also, the Bahama's do not require U.S. citizens to have a passport, just proof of citizenship such as a birth certificate.

Another issue with Birth Certificates, they have to be the right kind. The big fancy schmancy extra official kind with the raised seal and everything. One of the cruises I went on I observed a family checking in. They had birth certificates but they were the wrong kind. Needless to say it wasn't a very Magical moment for that family but it wasn't DCL's fault. Go ahead and get the the passport, it is money well spent. They last 10 years for adults and 5 for kids. I thought of them as future travel assurance devices! My kids' passports expire this August. We used them 4 times as a family in that time.

Cool! Great move for your family, nicer weather, except for this year;)

Well, we're still not above freezing -- BUT I SEE THE SUN !!!:sunny:

There is rain/snow mix still in the forecast for tomorrow. Good thing Cowboys Stadium will have the roof closed for the Super Bowl. Really, I am sure both of these teams from north of us thought they would be enjoying warmer temps here in Texas this past week.

Subtle changes to the pictures: with solid or faded border (and the right date).

I was thinking of making a small logo with mostly text if you want to add a pocket logo for a tshirt. If people like these, I can post bigger ones on photobucket and share it so you can download it to print.
I would be happy to try other things if anyone has anything else in mind.

For those watching the superbowl, enjoy. :cheer2: We are trying to make superbowl tshirts with one of the great DISigns that I found.

I really love the logo!! Either border is fine with me.
Would you be able to do t-shirts? How would that work? I missed it if it has been discussed already.

sun was shining here today. Beautiful day!!

Happy super bowl day everyone!! Not really pulling for anyone in particular but it should be a great game!!

Yes, you can make t-shirts with the bigger size files. You would just need to buy t-shirts and t-shirt transfer paper for your printer and print the logo and iron on. It is simple. I can help anyone if they need help. Some of the iron-ons say that you need to have a reverse image, so I will add one that is flipped. I will put a copy of the larger files for people to download in photo bucket and paste the link by next weekend. The last time we made cruise shirts, we printed the logo on the back and had pocket logos on the front with our names, but that is up to others what they want to do. If you are really ambitious, you can use this to make magnets too.

Just saw some pics of an 11B stateroom. We are in an 11A and it does look really, really small. I hope the 4 of us survive. It does not look like there is even room to walk to the side of the bed from by the couch. Might have to crawl over the bed to get in it. :rotfl:

Not to mention only 3 drawers for storage. We try to pack pretty light but for 4 of us and 5 days I don't know what we are going to do.

Should be really interesting.....

Could be an interesting cruise.

Where is a good place to buy the photo transfer paper? I have never done this before so forgive my ignorance. we will probably want to do shirts for our group!

I just realized reading some posts that our veranda does not look down to the water but to another veranda! That just seems wierd to me. Has anyone else noticed this? Deck 5 have the "extended" verandas that stick out and the others above it look down on these verandas.
Has anyone had any experience with this? Not sure if it's the same as the magic/wonder. This is our 1st Disney cruise.
Not really a big deal but I'm glad to know about it ahead of time.

Well, packers won. Sorry to those that are Steeler's fans. I know there are some in our group. It was a really close game.

Everyone have a great week. Hopefully, the weather will be better:cool2:

Disgrits - The best thing is to get the passports renewed. God forbid anything happens and you need to fly. the kids will need their passports. It's just me but to avoid any of those problems I'd get the passports and be done with it. That way you know you're covered.

Oh by the way... Happy Monday. To all the Packer Fans (Why, I don't know) ....Congrats. That hurt to type.

Thank you!!

No worries. I asked all of the same questions my first time. I bought transfer paper at Target this weekend, but you can buy it at a craft store like Michaels or Hobby Lobby or many office supply store or even online. The paper I bought said it only works with inkjet printers. You will want to pick your tshirts first because there is light and dark transfer paper. Light is transparent, so anyplace without color will see the color of the tshirt. Dark transfers will be white backing. Light transfers tend to be cheaper, but those typically require that the image is reversed. In the summer, I like light colored shirts. White tshirts are fairly easy to use. The instructions that come with the transfer paper are good and will tell you exactly how to do them. We actually used an old pillowcase for a test, but it worked out on the first time so my kids had a pillowcase that could be signed. If you are unsure, it is always best to practice. Please don't hestitate to ask more questions if you need more help.

Good superbowl. I didn't care who won. I had an excuse to make Disney shirts. I found a great logo on the Disboards with NFL mickeys.

Thank you so much!! I have never been "crafty" but I am going to have to get my boys to help me with this!!!:yay:
We have a Michaels right up the street so I am going to have to check it out.

Is anyone thinking of a color? or plain white shirts with the logo? I think that might be neat to do since the logo would show up really well. Great for the beach!!

Woohooo can't wait!! Come on June

Oh, and guys, I've been seeing some really good movies that are going to come out right before we sail!!
Of course, there is the Pirates movie!! But, there are more. Not that I want to spend alot of time in the theatre on board but it will be really cool to wait and see Johnny Depp and the new movie on board

Where do folks go to set up one of those countdown tickers that is on a DCL Name Tag? I really like them!
