Disney Dream - June 12, 2011

Hey -- did y'all see this on facebook today?

"Hey DCL fans, today we revealed details of a new adult-only, deluxe dining experience that is sure to delight our guests aboard the Disney Dream. It's called Remy! Click the link to see details of this unique culinary experience. Can you spot the petite star from "Ratatouille" subtly incorporated into the design of the dining room?"

That sounds absolutely amazing. It says in the DCL site that it is 8 or 9 small courses. If we can get it, DH and I will definitely try it (although we'll also want a Palo night and, if we can't get both, we might have to forego Remy until our next Dream cruise).

I would be interested in getting the recipe for the White Chocolate Ham. I like white chocolate and I like ham, not so sure I'd like them together, but I am willing to try!!!

It actually was fairly easy. We bought a pre-cooked spiral sliced ham from the grocery store and cooked it according to the package directions (I think we warmed it for an hour and a half). We, of course, discarded the brown sugar glaze that came with the ham. Then, we let it cool for about 30 minutes, melted white chocolate over a double boiler, and went to town coating the ham with white chocolate. Then, we put the ham in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes to let the chocolate set. :thumbsup2

Remy is def in addition to Palo...if you look on the DCL website and look at the Deck 12 plans you can see it (that's how I found out about it, someone put it on the deck plans before it was officially announced.) I'm thinking it's going to be at least $50pp surcharge just based on some of the ingredients (waygu beef, black truffle) and even more if you want the wine pairing for each course. Of course what they released is just a working menu so it's entirely possible it'll be completely different (add stuff, take things away) before the ship starts sailing.

As much as I would love to try it, I doubt I'm going to try and book it a ressie for it on this sailing. With all the other restaurants on the regular rotation, room service, the fast food places, Palo (hopefully brunch) I just don't know when we would fit this one in. Guess we'll just have to make another trip. Darn.

I really wish they would release some menu's for the regular restaurants too. Like when they released the stuff about Animators Palate last week it would have been nice to see what type of things their thinking of serving.

Any one have a suggestion for staying around the Magic Kingdom Resort before the trip? We are only planning to do 2 days at the parks before the trip. One day is definitely Magic Kingdom, so we thought we might as well stay in that area. I was thinking the Contemporary due to Monorail convenience, but wanted to see what others thought. Reservations are not open yet for summer 2011, so I will keep checking back.

we have stayed at both the Contemporary and the Polynesian. we love both. Each hotel is unique in itself! From the Contemporary you can walk to the Magic Kingdom, which we did, and took the monorail to EPCOT. As I said we loved both resorts, it just depends on the atmosphere you are looking for. Steve said he likes the Poly better because it has better restaurants! LOL I think I might have to agree with that, but then again, it's just a monorail ride away!! At the Cont. we had MK views and were able to watch the fireworks from our room...that was nice! We watched them from the beach of the Poly. Again, depends on what you like!! we have not stayed at the Grand Floridian....some day though, some day.....

We love, love, love the Grand Floridian and that is where we will be before (and possibly after) the cruise. If you can get a good rate and decide to stay there, let me know and I can give you advice on buildings/restaurants, tips for fireworks etc.

Hello Everyone-

Okay I need some real convincing of why I should take my 1 year 11 month old (at cruise time) on this Disney Cruise. I just happended to do some research and am now scared to death. Besides going with my sister and her family (Which is the #1 reason we are going). After reading some other DIS Experiences I am really debating. If anyone has taken their almost 2 year old or 2 year old please give me some positive insights and maybe some negative (if you think I should really know). Here is my thoughts... I do not want to be stressed chasing her around, worrying about her drowning in the pool, finding her a babysitter, etc. Yes I will be keeping an eye on her but we all know how Toddlers can be. The more I think about it the more I think me and my husband should just take a vacation somewhere for a few days. ~If my sister is reading this right now I am sure she is thinking "NO!!!" But I really need some strong convincing!!

Thanks!!

Nicole

Anybody doing the 5 day in front or 4 day after this cruise? I am considering it. Never done a B2B but it seems like it would be a relaxing vacation. The way I see it is that I am coming from California so I could get more bang for my buck with the flight and that most of the rides at WDW that my family of 4 likes are also availible at nearby Disneyland.

Thoughts?

Nicole,
take a deep breath! LOL I have never taken a toddler on a cruise, but we did go to the beach a lot and other trips. I would never hesitate to take my kids on vacation, anywhere. The things you are stressing about, to me, seem like things you could worry about everyday with a toddler. You could chase her around a store, she could drown in the bath, and don't we all need to call in a sitter now and then? I think I am a pretty easy going, go with the flow kind of mom...although I will admit to also stretching my propellers and being a helicopter Mom from time to time! For me, I would not be stressing about it! But, we have always taken our kids everywhere with us. If you are not comfortable taking your child to dinner out or shopping in a store, then maybe there is something to fret over. As for the sitters on the cruise, I would never hesitate to leave my kids in the hands of the Disney Staff. I think it will be just fine.

Brian,
we have never done a B2B, but would love to someday! I have also never been to Disneyland, but my DH has. He says that there is no comparison between DL and DW. DW just has so much more to offer, with having 4 parks instead of 2. Maybe a bit more research into what is at the parks might help you to make your decision. However, I have been on a few DCL trips and would never hesitate to double up.....if my wallet would let me!

Steve and I put a coat of stain on the deck today...gonna need more Advil! LOL Back to school for the boys today, back to work tomorrow for me. :sad2: I don't wanna go!!! can't wait for summer to officially start!

Nicole, I had to laugh at what you said about worrying about stressing about your DD, chasing her around, worrying about her drowning in the pool, etc., because I still worry about all of those things as they pertain to my DD (who is now 6). We took DD on her first Disney cruise when she was 3 and we all had an incredible time. The only times that we were apart from each other was once for a spa thing for DH and I, and once for Palo - other than that, we ate in the dining rooms together every night, saw the shows, and did the excursions all together. DD tolerated the kids club during our first cruise but didn't really enjoy them until the last time we put her in for Palo (go figure). When we cruised in September, 2009, DD had an even better time (though this time she wanted more of the Club scene, we still had an amazing time, and were happy that DH and I could do some adult things together because she was having such a good time). Disney just does it right and we've made some incredible family memories during our cruises. I wish that we would have started having Disney vacations much sooner than DD's 3rd year and I believe that you will probably feel the same about your vacation. No vacation is ever without drama (or at least they aren't for us), but in the end, the drama is something that we are able to laugh about, and we are glad that we are spending our money for these family memories. With all that, though, only you can decide if you want to do the cruise. Even if your DD isn't cooperating, though, it's really difficult to not have a great time on a Disney cruise. Good luck with your decision. :goodvibes

We are actually doing a B2B this September (a 3/4) so I'll let you know how it goes. I think, though, that a 5/4 sounds pretty darn incredible! I think the only negative is having to disembark and then re-embark, but by all reports Disney makes it as smooth as possible. :thumbsup2

It's with heavy heart that I type this reply to my DIS friends. Today I cancelled our Disney Cruise. After I spoke with my husband and asked some other boards about taking a toddler on a Disney Cruise I have decided to cancel. It has been a pleasure chatting with all of you via DIS board. Maybe someday we will meet again on another Disney Cruise.

I hope you all have a fantastic cruise and make a lot of new memories.

Sincerely,

Nicole, Travis and Ella:guilty:

Ooooooo, your sister is going to be mad at you! Just kidding - - I completely understand, and, there is always next time when Ella is a bit older. :flower3:

We are joining the group! We booked awhile ago for me and my son's Aaron 21 and Nathan 18. When we added my son's girlfriend Melissa 20 we had to upgrade our cabin because like someone else had posted even though there was 4 beds in our cabin, that section of the ship was maxed out on number of passengers. OK though because even though it was a little more money, we now have a balcony!!
We are so excited but it is sooo far away!
I'm glad there are so many people on....maybe we should set up a little meet and coffee or something.:)

Just checking in to say hi. Spring is busy for us: baseball, softball, dance, and volleyball. This weekend: DD went to a friend's clumber party and I went to Elton John on Friday night. Yesterday was pitching clinic, dance pictures, and GNO. Today is church, baseball, and volleyball.
Thinking of Disney always de-stesses me and makes me smile.
Have a great week.

It won't be long before you can cruise with her but I do understand your concerns. We took DD at 12 months and had a great time. She was such a sweet happy little thing. We booked another cruise for when she was 22 months old. She was great until about 2 weeks before the cruise then I guess terrible 2's set in. It was really bad. She was not happy with anything, was mad she could not get in the big pool and did NOT want to stay in the ears and she wanted to do everything her 4 year old brother could do but that was just not possible. I spent many hours with her in our stateroom while she had her meltdowns. I swore we would not cruise with another kid that age again. We took her again when she was almost 4 and we had a wonderful time.

Work has been keeping me crazy busy lately. I did think the other day that we are only about 14 months away from cruising on the Dream. :cool1:

We have our surprise WDW trip scheduled for just 31 days from now. I can't wait and I really need this quick vacation. I also can't wait to see the kids' reactions. :yay:

Welcome to the Group!! I've gotten you added to the first page. :goodvibes As it gets closer, I would love to see everybody's interest in meeting up before the cruise. We'll likely be at Disney World for a couple days prior, so hopefully we can do a fun meet there too. :thumbsup2

As to us, I've been reading how busy everyone else is, and that's totally my reality too. At work, we are gearing up for a week long trial in Delaware and the jury is still out (LOL) :rotfl: on whether or not I will be going up there to assist. On the homefront, we have been doing some super spring cleaning. DH and I cleaned out the garage yesterday and we are hauling out an entire U-Haul full of crap to the landfill this morning. :scared: Next, we are going to tackle our kitchen in hopes of getting it remodeled by the end of the year. It will be a lot of work, but I think that it will be worth it in the end. Other than that, same-old, same-old. I hope that everyone has a great week! :grouphug:

Good Monday Morning Fellow Cruisers!!!

I am sorry to see Nicole and her family make the choice to not cruise with us, but I fully understand having to make decisions based on what your family needs are, not what everyone else is doing or may want you to do.

and Welcome to the new families!!!

We are getting ready to go to Williamsburg, VA and Washington DC at the beginning of June. If anyone has any advice for those 2 areas, please let me know! I told Steve I feel like we are heading into uncharted territory! If we were planning WDW, I could have us booked, ADRs made and ready to roll in a few hours. With this, I haven't a CLUE as to what there is or what to do! We have our hotels booked, so we are good there. We are looking for things to do and places to eat!

I hope this finds everyone happy and healthy!!!!

My daughter and I have been really busy too. She went to the Prom with all of her classmates (Special Education class). The teacher arranged for limos and a nice dinner before the Prom. They all had a great time. Counting down the days, or should I say months, till we get to cruise on the Dream. We leave for WDW next month. Very excited. Hope everyone is doing well.

I would love to meet up with everyone on the cruise. When it gets closer, maybe we can pick a time and place, but I'm certainly interested.

Hi Everyone! Haven't been to the boards for a L O N G time. We are really ready for our Disney fix, and are having major DCL withdrawl. I guess will have to wait until next June. In October I started working pt while dd7 is in school, and have been swamped with everyday life so my DIS Board postings have really suffered. I need to catch up on what has been going on!!! I am mentally on CC today....... Looking forward to some great meet & greets with everyone. Will post more soon!
