Hey everyone...long time since I checked in but it's been crazy busy here...I finally found a job after being unemployed for nearly a year and a half...right now it's only a temp job with a 4-6 month contract but I'm hoping they'll hire me as a regular employee before the contract runs out...it's with a company I had interviewed with before but didn't get the position, instead got the response of "we'll keep your resume on hand" which I normally take as "as soon as you leave we're putting your resume in a file cabinet for legal reasons, but we'll never look at it again", but shockingly the manager actually called me 3 weeks later saying she wanted me as a temp and set me up with the temp agency they use. I haven't brought up the cruise with them yet but plan to if they do make me a job offer...I'll prob have to take the time unpaid (at least partially) since I wouldn't have a whole week of vacation time earned yet, but I can deal with that.
As far as plans while on ship, my wife is trying to decide on excursions (we are completely different when it comes to vacations...when we take a vacation on land I want to cram in as much tourist stuff as possible and she complains and wants to relax, on cruises she wants to cram in a bunch of stuff and I want to relax). Right now though here's what I'm planning on doing.
Embarkation day we will be at the port at 10-10:30 or shortly there after (we only live like 15 minutes away). I know we don't board until at least 12 but I like to be there first to get checked in, people watch, see the characters, etc. Last cruise this is when we met some fellow Dis'ers including the ones that were 2 doors down and our daughters became fast friends even before they got on the ship, so hoping something similar will happen. Once boarded prob head straight for a buffet, hit the pool or explore for a little bit before the rooms are ready and the muster drill.
First day on
Castaway Cay, get up early (since I'm an early riser anyway and my body won't sleep in on the first day of vacation) run the 5k, go back to the ship and spend the day there enjoying all the new stuff (Aquaduck, interactive art/treasure hunt) hoping a lot of people get off to go to the beach.
Day 2 at Nassau I only want to get off the ship long enough to go to the Tortuga store to buy my rum and rum cakes...I may have to stop at the Starbucks too for an hour or so, but just to use their internet connection since I will be taking summer classes online and the ship's connection is just to slow (and expensive) to do anything. Rest of the day will be spent on the ship.
Day 3 At sea...who knows, hopefully Palo brunch, maybe a tasting of some sort...prob the art auction
Day 4 Castaway Cay This will be the day I enjoy Castaway Cay. Will def be snorkling (I got badly sunburned on my back last time which is why I refuse to do this on the first day), hoping to do a bike ride and spend some time in a hammock.
Since I know there are a few other Texans here Go Rangers! I just bought a ticket to the third game (first home game) of the World Series....crossing my fingers they finish the Yanks quickly in NYC so i can actually go (of course now I have to figure out who's going to pick me up from the airport, let me crash with them, and get back to the airport so i don't have to rent a car or hotel room)
