Disney Dream, Jan 15th 2012

Wow, lucky me...did my online check in the other day and didnt even look at the identification part. That is all filled out already if you have cruised before. Was showing my SIL, who is coming with us and will be on her 1st cruise, the check in area to be filled out and noticed my kids passports had expired in July. I knew this from our cruise this past January but totally forgot. Now we have to get the kids to renew their passports and hit a post office on Monday. Good thing I looked tonight. The passport section says 4-6 weeks so I think I caught it in time.

Reminder make sure all your paperwork is filled out properly and all your documents are in order. Don't be silly like me.

Given the apparenty low bookings on this cruise, I would expect that DCL will be making some sort of special offers after the paid in full date, which I think is the first week in November. It will be interesting to see if they add this to the special rates they have for the Magic or if they go with a Kids Sail Free option.

What is Disney's policy for those who have already booked? Do you have a link to it - I couldn't find it.

No matter what the policy is, speaking for the family, WE CAN'T WAIT!

I don't know if they are going to add any incentives for just one cruise that isn't fully booked. The may offer some type of Florida resident discount, maybe. The kids sail free incentive was used last yer but I think it was on all cruises in the month of January/early February.

There is no link to any incentives yet. If some come down and you are using a TA for the booking, your TA should keep you apprised. If not, it will probably be advertised on the DCL site.

The 75 day paid in full date is November 1st.

Thanks - we booked directly with the Mouse.
We'll be staying up long after our trick-or-treater has gone to sleep to book all of our activities.

Also, we're on Deck 10, midship - was that a mistake? It looks like the sundeck/pool is just above. Is there adequate sound proofing? Will people be dancing on our heads well into the night and then dragging around deck chairs at sun up?

We are also on Deck 10 but more forward. Our room seems to be under the spa. So, I don't think we will have any problems with the noise. I booked this location because the last time we were on the deck just below the pools we did have noise.

We were on Deck 8 (conceirge 1 bdrm) on the Magic a couple of years ago. We did hear noise but only around 6am. That is when they started utting out the deck chairs/loungers by the pool. It woke me up I would say 4 out of the 7 days, maybe 5. It was quite bothersome for me as I am a light sleeper in the mornings.

If you know your stateroom number you can go to this site: http://wdwinfo.com/wdwinfo/cruise-new/roomlist.cfm . You can enter in your stateroom number (or find it) and see some reviews of the room. You may see if the stateroom's previous occupants reported any noise.

Thanks again - as it turns out, I decided to explore this site a bit more right after my last post (very impressed by the organization of it all) and found the room reviews. I ended up moving down to 9 (without DW's approval - yes, I am brave). I, too, am a very light sleeper and wanted to do all I could to avoid the noise. A prior review for the room suggests it fits the bill nicely.

If you are a light sleeper then I think you made the right decision. I remember that I was pretty annoyed at being woken up. Not that I felt high and mighty but I was paying for a conceirge room on the Magic and shouldn't have to be woken up by dragged patio furniture. For that matter, no one should with the prices we are paying.

I am in a 5a stateroom for this cruise and wanted a higher floor but not one that was mid ship, as that is where the chairs and such are. So, we picked a room further aft and it is basically under the pool bar/ spa area. We shall see.

Welcome fellow cruise mates...all 8 of us :rotfl2:

Finally, something to look forward to in January:banana:

I noticed you and another poster are listed as "Montreal" and told my daughter, who is in French immersion, that there may be some kids who speak French on the ship. I thought it would be great for her to not lose a full week of learning French. Then it popped into my head: what kinds of words might she learn? Eek!

Hey Everyone!

Very excited that we are so, so close! With the holidays around the corner, I know that January will be here in no time!!! :dance3:

So this is my group's first DCL cruise (we've done cruises before though). We tried yesterday to book Palo brunch - no available times. We tried to book a private cabana on Castaway Cay - nothing available. Needless to say, it was a bit disappointing. What are the odds that we'll be able to book onboard? I have to admit, DCL isn't too welcoming to first timers (or at least that's how I'm feeling at the moment). Don't worry though, we're all still thrilled about the cruise, it just would have been nice to have something we wanted booked.

OK, so I am slightly confused about something - and please forgive my ignorance. I saw someone's earlier post about choosing an 11am check-in. I thought everyone was allowed to check-in at 11am? Do some people have to check-in later? If that's the case, we definitely are not going to get any ressies!! :scared1:

Anyway, we are really excited and I know that if we do not do any "special" bookings, it will still be a magical trip.

Brunch is only offered on the sea day, which makes it hard to get on-line reservations if you are not a returnning cruiser. I have written on the comment cards that they should also offer brunch on Nassau day, but that doesn't seem to be gaining any acceptance at DCL. That would give people on the 4 day two chances and would give the 3 day cruise an opportunity. Right now, there is no Palo brunch on the 3 day at all.

Concerning the 11 Am check-in. When you complete the on-line check-in, which is a separate menu from the palo/shore excursion/spa reservation menu, you will be given a screen that allows you to select your check-in time. According to that screen, you are not supposed to show up at the port before your check in time. DCL started having this feature with the Dream, but I honestly don't know if they enforce it rigorously, the reports on the boards say it is spotty. Making reservations on-board also has some conflicting information. Some people report making them as early as one pm, but in different locations, others say it starts around 3 PM (which is consistent with some of the navigators). Others have said they called Palo directly and got reservations. I don't have much information on the cabanas since we were not interested in reserving one. The only item I can pass along is that on a Wonder cruise last December, we upgraded at the port to a 1 bedroom suite. When we met with the concierge team that afternoon, they offered to reserve us a cabana, but I don't know if that was because they keep some in reserve for on-board booking, or if there are some reserved for the suites, or if they just didn't happen to be all rented. The concierge also offered to make Palo reservations for us, but we already had ours. It was also a 3 day, so I don't know if they would have been able to help with brunch reservations, since brunch isn't offered on the 3 day.

Welcome to your first DCL cruise.

I am going to add a few things to Wiscbill's excellent explanations.

Palo brunch on a four day cruise is the hardest reservation to get because as Wiscbill said there is only one day it is done. If you can reserve the Palo dinner, do it, you won't be disappointed. Or if your heart is set on getting the brunch definitely try once you board. You can go to Palo between 1pm and 3:30pm right after you board to try to get a reservation. I have heard, although never actually tested it, that thy hold some reservations available for those that can't get them online.

As for the cabanas, from what I hear they can only be reserved prior to the cruise by concierge staying cruisers. They get opened to everyone else on the Monday of our cruise. This is at least how they did it in the past and kind of sounds similar to Widcbill's experience. But, they may have changed it. I can tell you that there were none available to reserve at 90 days out either.

The check in times were added to alleviate the extra 1500 passengers for the Dream. The terminal didn't get bigger, just the ship, so DCL needed to space the arrival of cruisers out for crowd control. Wiscbill is right as it seems this is a loose rule and not strictly enforced. No matter what time you arrive, the terminal doesnt open before 11am anyway, the boarding process will start at approximately 12:00pm give or take 15 minutes either way. The check in process is usually pretty good. I would recommend getting here before 12pm because the Magical Express buses from the resorts strart arriving about 1pm from what i have heard. It tends to get more crowded at hat time. The family of the day boards first, then the concierge passengers, and the rest. When you arrive you will be given a boarding number. When the call out your number you pass through the Mickey ears.

You mention DCL's first time unwelcomeness. Well, I guess but I don't think so. It's more of a reward system towards those who have sailed before. As you see, the one and only day shot Palo Brunch would be a tough reservation anyway on this cruise. It's much easier to get on a seven day cruise. DCL gives special privileges to those that have sailed before and once you step off you will attain that status and become a member of he Castaway Club. This will allow you, depending upon your level; silver, gold, platinum; to make reservations anywhere from 90-120 days out, have a designated check in line at the terminal (sometimes this can be slower than he regular line), special stateroom gifts, meet the crew, and even a free Palo dinner. So, as you see, it's not that they are not welcoming you, it's that they are rewarding me, lol. Hope you get the idea.

Believe me, once we are on the ship DCL doesn't discriminate whether you are concierge, which I have sailed before, or in an inside stateroom. You get the same fantastic service throughout.

If you have any other questions fire away. I am sure either someone here or myself can help give you the right answer.

Btw Wiscbill we are from your neck of the woods over in Nassau County...Wantagh

This may be the only time I wish a company adopted the cell phone/cable company model. Have you seen the commercial where the first kid says "sure, I'd love a pony!" The guy hands her a cheap plastic toy. He then makes the offer to a second child, she accepts, and they bring out a live pony because she's a new customer...

Any planned for this cruise?

I've been trying to drum up some interest, but so far, no luck... :(

I have 3 kids, ages 5 (twins) and 3.5 that would LOOOVE to do a FE! Let's get some interest going! :):cool1:
