DISNEY DREAM 5-nights May 29th, 2011

Well we are paid in full, thanks to some overtime, but we have done it. We finished paying today on the cruise and the after party at the CR. I just want to yell it out, but can't tell the kiddies. I have already talked to their teachers, since we have used all of our snow days and they missed the 1st week of december for WDW, I figured I better make sure it was no biggie. The principal didn't seem thrilled, but didn't say no....at most they may miss the last couple days of school which I really don't think they do much. Anyhow, what do I do know. This will be our first cruise, and I have no ideas at all. I don't even know what clothes to start looking for, we are a very casual family so hopefully that won't be a big problem. I also have no clue how to make a FE, or what I need to get together, please help. I am not crafty at all, and my normal helper with ideas can't know about the trip. What to do next.

Congrats on the paid in full

Here is a link to Virginia's post for the FE for this cruise. At the bottom of the post are a few links about the fish extenders, how to make them etc. If you are not a crafty person, you can find them on Ebay. http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=36916003&postcount=247

Someone on my last cruise created this list that might help you with tips and packing ideas, etc.... I hope the link works, let me know if it doesn't. https://docs.google.com/document/edit?id=1zwf9gcJ5SZcg6LWIRI6SKqxOj-9W-ujCIl659TaeX9A&authkey=CLOKgaoF&hl=en&pli=1#

Lordy, I wish I could click my heels together 3x and say "I wish I was on the Dream" and have it magically happen......

I'm so tired of waiting!!!! Mostly I'm just tired- it's been a long winter with snow days and kids home from school. We finally get 2 solid weeks of no snow but that doesn't help - kid #2 gets strep, finishes up 10 days of penicillin, then the VERY NEXT DAY kid #1 gets it. Well guess who now has the sore throat from hell. But I'm mom so that means NO time to go to the doctor's right????

It's sad that the only time off and 'vacation' I'm expecting before this cruise is a week in late March because I'm having surgery and need to take a week off from work!!!!

I need a REAL vacation. One with a kids club so I can have some mommy time on a massage table..... :cloud9:

 hope you feel better soon!! It's suppose to be 60 degrees on Friday-- get your boots ready for the water from the melting snow!! :lmao:
It was so nice not to have snow for 2 weeks, maybe spring is on it's way? :confused3

We'll be on vaca before you know it! but I agree and wish it was now as I need the break.

I am also bummed about Palo. It's been our tradition every cruise and this is our 18 year anniversary.

I wanted to post because I have a DD who is 13 hoping to meet some girls her age. (Her brother just 11 at time of cruise will have a friend). I think she is feeling between clubs. She'd like to try to go to VIBE once in a while when they allow younger teens, but not by herself.

Can't wait to experience the DREAM

Here is an FE I made for my friend going on a March cruise. I am making her another one for the rest of her family. I'll post it when I'm done. I need to work on my own, too! lol

100 days to go  Can't wait!

And just think, tomorrow we will be in double digits...:jumping1:

Really looking forward to today, it is supposed to hit 70. That means top down on the car....:yay: We really need this after the past few months.

I logged onto DCL to view my saved activities (trying to narrow down my list) and when I logged on it said "you have 99 days until you're cruise" and I was like  - my kids thought I was nuts for dancing around my kitchen with no music playing...

We are starting to get ready now. Nothing major, just bought all our gift cards for the cruise and I bought a clear container to start putting things in for the cruise.

We are driving down and my DH wants to start planning the drive. Honestly, neither of us have been to Florida so it's all new to us. I know there are some toll roads along the way. Does anyone have any driving tips for us? Where the toll roads are etc. I know we will take interstate 75 to Orlando.

We are also driving in the hopes of saving a couple dollars from IND, not sure on routes or anything. I am so clueless, we have always just flown. This could be real interesting with 3 kids, please post any tips you come across. thanks in advance

I also was wanting to ask all of the family cruise experts out there for some much needed assistance. I have asked on a couple other threads, but still I am lost.....somethings take me a while, lol. Anyhow, my stress at the moment is trying to figure out what clothing we need. None of use "dress up", we are a very very casual family. My husband is a jean/short and t shirt guy all the way, dressing up for me is capri pants....so the kids follow our lead. What do we need for the ship, I don't want to buy things we will only wear once but I also don't want to be told we are not dressed according to the rules. I need someone to help me out on what we need. The clothes we do have are nice, I don't allow holes or anything dirty...but still I don't want us to be the one family. After the dream we have a 6 nights at WDW so it would be nice to keep things as simply as possible. Thanks in advance. Also if there are anything that people seem to forget, or that one thing you can't cruise without, please feel free to either post or message me....I just need help, and now with being paid I am getting nervous.

My Daughter Allison is 13 and she is looking to also meet up with some more girls on the cruise. Allie normally uses my log on info so if they want to meet up she can send a private post to my account.

PS we are from Colorado and this will be our 4th cruise and the 2nd FE we have participated in

Hi, well shorts aren't allowed in the dinning rooms at dinner, so maybe a pair of khakis and a polo shirt are what I have seen people wear (and my DH). I know I myself have worn a pair of capri's w/ a dressy type top and it's all good! Don't stress - it's your vacation to enjoy!!

I am the queen of wanting to be comfortable and we don't really go all out and 'dress up' for the cruise. DH has a few pairs of dockers type pants that he wears to work- that's what we bring for dinner- 2 pairs. He pairs them with either a plain t-shirt of short sleeved collar shirt (like a polo type shirt). Same shirts are mixed up during the day with shorts which are either denimn or dockers. He brings 1 pair of sandals for the beach, 1 pair of shoes, and wears sneakers for the flight, walking around nassau, etc...
Most of the day time he's in a bathing suit and tshirt anyway....
For me - I have 1, maybe 2 sun dress type dresses (pull over, nothing fancy and totally comfortable). I got them at Walmart for $12 each. I bring 1 pair of sandals and my 'flip flops' which I usually wear on the plane and around nassau. The rest of the time it's capris or shorts with mix and match tops. I usually have 3 'nicer' shirts for dinner time (not t-shirts but I have worn tanks with capris that have a bit more style than a plane tank), and t-shifts.
My kids are young - my 7 year old son will be in shorts and tshirts the whole time. I'll bring 2-3 collared shirts for him for dinner to go with his shorts. My daughter, who is almost 6, loves 'dressing up' so I'll bring mix and match shorts/capris's and tops and 1-2 sun dresses.
We don't do jackets, ties, gowns, high heels, etc... In the past 'pre kids' I may have, but Disney cruises for us are for unwinding and enjoying our vacation without any stress, and worrying about who's wearing what is just no longer on my list of high priorities. As my kids get older that may change.
Be comfortable. As long as your comfortable, and not naked, it's okay.

Greetings again. We are getting very excited that our cruise is getting so close. My 10 year old daughter, Megan, is still wanting to connect with a few other girls her age before the cruise so she has "friends" to play with on the cruise. We have done this for our other cruises and it was great for all (including the parents!). If anyone has a daughter about this age (4th grade), just send me a PM and we can get them communicating via email in these last few months before the cruise and then they can meet on the cruise.

Thanks!
Tamie:cheer2:

Tamie,

I have a daughter who is in 3rd grade she is 8. I believe they will be in the same club? I have not done this with my youngest before because she makes friends very easily and we restrict web access to her, however her older sister has met a few friends and she asked if she could to this time. So if 8 isn't to young for your daughter, PM me and we can connect.
Jamie

OK I am GTY so I have no room number yet. Anyone know when we will get it and if I don't get it till we check in how do I participate in the FE?

I usually bring 2 pair of dress pants (just in case a spill occurs), khakis are fine and I bring 3 button down shirts for dinner. I am not sure how strict they are being on the dream about wearing jeans. That's as dressed as I will be for this cruise. No kids here, but I am sure others can speak to what the kids can wear.

What people wear is always a touchy subject on the boards because everyone has a different opinion on what is or is not acceptable. For me I feel that a pair of dress pants and button down shirt are fine. But it does bother me when I see men show up in shorts and they are allowed in.

There is one tip that I hear over and over again, bring one or two of those over the door shoe organizers (cheap at walmart). They come in real handy for keeping things organized in the cabin and off the floor and what little table space you have.

Here is a link to a list of tips someone on my last cruise put together. https://docs.google.com/document/edit?id=1zwf9gcJ5SZcg6LWIRI6SKqxOj-9W-ujCIl659TaeX9A&authkey=CLOKgaoF&hl=en&pli=1#
