Disney Dragons August 2024 Exercise Challenge

I'm back :) - the flea market was a success and things are getting back to normal around here today.

I'm happy to report that we already have four color changes - congrats to Raya, sophy1996, ShannyMcB, and Twilight Sparkle!!!!

In honor of those, we'll start with a blue dragon:

Going back all the way to 1941, we have The Reluctant Dragon:

"...a floppy-eared softie who'd rather play his flute, read poetry and enjoy a picnic than feast on knights. In this 20-minute short film about being true to yourself, the Dragon changes the local village’s view of him as a menace and winds up joining them as a friend..."

Here's a clip:

I'm going to count my basic 20 minutes a day for the flea market, as there was at least that much lifting and carrying stuff, and I walked 20 minutes on the treadmill yesterday, so I'm up to 110/600, joining Elizabeth Smith and the Team in turning blue!

Another (mostly) blue Disney dragon is Sisu, from Raya and the Last Dragon.

A divine water dragon protecting the world of Kumandra, Sisu teaches us to believe in ourselves and our own abilities.

20 minutes yesterday, hoping for a bigger number today with lots of walking around air ports. It's funny how leaving Disney makes me sad, leaving work trips makes me happy. :P BTW, lots of lessons learned on this trip for walking around in 100'/40' + heat. Definitely pack two sets of clothes (or at least underclothes) for each day and expect to take a midday shower and cool off break.

I had to reach a bit to find an orange one, but our next Disney Dragon, Cloud Dancer, comes from a 1998 short called "Dragon Friend" - written by a kid who entered a Disney contest!

From the Disney Wiki: "The short begins with a little boy named Alec (Brady Bluhm) being chased by a band of knights. Managing to give his pursuers the slip, Alec falls off a cliff, only to be saved by a friendly dragon (Tony Jay) who introduces himself as Cloud Dancer, and knows all about Alec, explaining that any dragon who's old enough knows such things. When Alec says Cloud Dancer doesn't look so old, the elderly dragon points out he is the first dragon that Alec has ever seen and laments that dragons could live forever if humans didn't keep trying to slay them. Moving past these sad feelings, Cloud Dancer puts Alec on his head and takes him for a ride through the sky, even demonstrating his dragon fire by setting the surface of a lake ablaze."

Here's the story of the contest winner and the full short:

What a neat find!

Wednesday - 40 minutes of walking around airports
Thursday - 10 minutes, boring walking
Saturday - 64 minutes, it's tough to get back to the gym after a few days of traveling.

Did anyone else see the big D23 news about the new Villains' Land coming to WDW? The concept art has a huge dragon in the center. Squee!!!!!!!!

Tiny exercise related rant: I'm a woman of a certain age, which means I often wake up hot enough that I'm sweating. Then I get on the treadmill and start running. It doesn't take long before I'm really hot. So I turn on the air and follow my work out with a cold shower. And then a smoothie made with frozen fruit and ice. Ahh blissful relief.... until my body realizes what I've done (wet hair, a/c set to frigid, ingested a bunch of ice, showered in cold water) and I start shivering. Why? Why do I never think things through and stop at any of the "this is probably cold enough" steps? Arrggggghhhhhhh Feel free to laugh at the silly way I can never be the right temp these days.

44 minutes of running

I get it. I get so hot during the summers here, so I always take a cold shower during those months. Sometimes the shower can't get cold enough. This summer, I also froze my barn clothes before going out on the hottest days and used snap ice packs (I keep them around for horse first aid but used them more on myself this summer) to cool me down even more. If it wasn't for our humidity, I think I'd handle the temps a lot better. After my post barn cold showers, I can be found in a Disney hoodie because the cold, wet hair on my neck aggravates my asthma. 🤣
