I have been picking up Disney Dollars in preparation for our trip next month. I was wondering if you can redeem them at check in so that they are used when you charge against your room? I really hate the thought of having to carry them around with us to the parks. I'd much rather just charge everything with the room key.

I don't know about using them to prepay at check-in. I would assume you can, but I am not sure if they will still want a Credit Card.

I do agree saving the Disney Dollars is great. DW and I for our trip in 2002 we had a bunch of Disney Dollars, and kept forgetting to us them for most of the week. It was much easier to us the room key.

Jan 2003 were a little better using them. Let DW be in charge of them ;) since on our first date I said I had a coupon for Olive Garden and then was so nervous I FORGOT TO USE IT! LOL

I plan on us using the room key(s) again this year and just going down and paying the front desk in disney dollars a couple times during the week.

Disney treats them just like cash. So you wouldn't use them at check in, but I'll bet they'll take them during check out to pay (partially :p ) for your sundry charges!

I don't know that they would let you pay at various times during your stay. My guess is that they would request that you pay upon check out. Hey, at least that way you only have to remember to do it once!!!

We had a large amount of Dinsey Dollars our children had received as gifts for our trip a few weeks ago.

I used them to put down a cash deposit at YC Concierge for our room charges. He counted them and typed it in, gave me a receipt for the deposit and we were on our way. We were only there for a few days so I gave him $500 Disney Dollars. It was treated just like a cash deposit. Our keys were valid for charging.

We only ended up spending a little less than $300 and I received over $200 cash back at check out.

I did not have to put a credit card down with the Disney Dollars.

You can use them at check-in to create a credit balance on your account. Have done this with cash before, and Disney Dollars would be the same.

That's great to hear. Thanks for all of the responses. I am definitely going to use them to create a credit balance.

We are going home in June for the first time since I was 10. Do I understand that you can use your room key like a credit card to be billed at your resort, therefore you don't have to carry cash? Does this work at souveiner shops, restaurants, etc?

Yes at check in you will asked for a credit card (this also lets you have express check out) - so Disney has what they need to charge your credit card account - then you use your room key - it can be use every where - except at the vendors in the park (they only accept cash) and at the Dophin/Swan.

at all the theme parks, WDW resorts and DD you can use it.

Disney dollars are NOT accepted by some of the push cart vendors. Went to Epcot in July with just my key and some disney dollars --- waited 10 minutes in line for water, only to be told they don't accept either!

The vendor is suppose to accept DD and I would have pushed them on the issue. No they don't do credit cards, but the dollars can be used as currency anywhere on the Disney property. (If Disney is going to print it's own money, they better let me spend it!)
