Does anyone else get these for their trip? I've read a lot about how it's not really worth it, that it's the same as money anyway and easier to keep your cash on your card (attached to your room key) but I've been hitting the Disney Store whenever I have a few dollars in my wallet and exchanging them, helps prevent me from buying little things I don't need! (And helps me save some for our trip, where I KNOW I'll want something .. some THINGS!)

What are everyone's thoughts on the Disney Dollar?

I also like to use them for the same reason as you. Especially for my kids because they think if they have cash they can spend it on other things non disney when that money was for their trip. My friend just gave me a $100 worth for helping out at her son's graduation party. I already know between eating a character dinner or breakfast that will be gone and it's no $ out of my pocket. Plus I just like giving them as gifts instead of money.

It has helped us save too. We can't dip into an envelope of Disney dollars to buy extra "stuff" at home.

And Grandma got some for her grandson's birthday, because she wanted him to know that money was for his Disney trip.

It's totally unnecessary though.

Now I just save/hide cash... I had saved Disney dollars for tips when we were on the dining plan, but then I read that Disney dollars for tips is kind of a sticky subject... now we're saving cash for tips the next trip on the dining plan.

I use Disney Dollars for my kids. My daughter earns one each day for doing her chores. Then when we are in Disney, she will have that amount to spend on stuff...and nothing more. It is kind of a savings plan of sorts and it helps get my daughter excited (and me too)!

When my kids were little we had a tradition of going to the Disney store once a week for Disney dollars for their spending money. The trip to the store was a thrill in itself. Now that they are teenagers they still like Disney dollars but the store isn't quite the thrill it used to be. so as soon as we plan our trip, we have a weekly family Disney trivia question and they earn Disney dollars for getting the correct answer. It's really fun to think of questions relating to one of our many trips. A sample question might be "what did the tooth fairy leave Annie when she lost her tooth at the Wilderness Lodge?" We all love reliving the memories and the kids have lots of spending money for the trip that can't be spent anywhere else. I also stop by the Disney store whenever I am in the mall and buy a few dollars worth. Are there better ways to save, absolutely, but in our house Disney dollars are a tradition.

I've been collecting Disney Dollars for years, and I used to use them to save for my WDW trips. But a few years ago I changed over to Disney Gift Cards, which can be replaced if lost or stolen.

I still collect DD$, but all of my trip savings are now on DGCs.

My mother just mentioned the gift cards .. I think she was going to get my DD one for our trip. Can you get those at Disney Stores as well? Could I exchange my Disney Dollars for a gift card? If so, I'll keep a few for my daughter and put the rest on the card. I never knew that about being replaced if lost or stolen, that's great to know!

You can get gift cards at the disney store too...I'm not sure if you can exchange disney dollars for a gift card, but I don't see why you couldn't. We have some pre-paid debit cards that we got as rebate payments that we're planning to use for disney dollars (or a gift card). whenever anyone is asking for a gift for me or my husband I always say disney dollars are welcome!
