We are not DVC, but last week we stayed at BCV using someone else's points, so our Keys said "DVC Member." At check in we were asked about placing a card on file for room charges. I put down my discover card as they would not let me put the Gift Cards on in advance.
We took Gift Cards down on 3 different occasions to pay toward our balance. We had $800 worth of $25 gift cards & 1 $100 gift card. We had mixed experiences, but they were always applied.
1st time--DH went & they had to manually enter the number on the back for each card at the front desk. This was a pain, so we started taking them to the parks to pay for some of our TS meals.
2nd time--I went to front desk & the manager was there training 2 new employees. They had no problem swiping the 5 cards I took down & applying them to the room.
3rd time--DH went & was told by front desk that concierge would have to do it. They did the gift cards, but told him they could not apply our Disney Dollars to the account????
Hope this helps a bit. When we used the cards in stores or dining it came out with receipts for each $25 card that we had to sign. A couple of the waitresses we encountered were clueless about how to use them, so we had to translate everything when it came back to our table & figure out which cards still had a balance. Others it was no problem.
Also, (& finally), if you have a Disney Visa you can show it at the World of Disney in DTD to get your discount, but pay with gift cards.
