I tried to purchase Disney Dollars last night at the local Disney Store, and was told that they are sold out 'company wide'! She said even the parks do not have any to sell.

Has anyone else heard this? Do you know of any ways in which I could purchase the Disney Dollars?

Thanks!!

Definetly not true. All Guest Relations at all the theme parks as well as Downtown Disney can sell you Disney Dollars. The most current ones I have seen all have Mickey Mouse on them. Hope this helps!

i just purchased 2 disney dollars, a dollar each for both of my boys, at my local disney store just this past friday!:thumbsup2

My local stores have been out of DD's for a few months now. While nobody told me why, I kind of thought maybe it had to do with the stores being bought back from Children's Place and the transition period? Anybody know? :confused3

Bought some today. They are darling! My daughter just lost her first tooth, so the tooth fairy is bringing Mickey Money! My store said that all of the stores just got big shipments as everyone was running low from summer vacations! Try back now, they should be there!

I have been trying to get my hands on some DD for 2 months now (4 trips to the Mall) and have not had any luck. :sad2:

I asked the DS employee and she told me the gift cards were available and are good at alll Disney Parks, etc, just like the DD. I told her I like my son to have the dollars and then asked "are you phasing them out? I've been trying to get some my last 3 visits with no luck." I figured with all the Disney cost cutting that this was just another way to save the company money. I surmised that if Disney is printing money (say it costs them 5 cents to make a disney dollar) and they redeem them for one dollar, they are making only 95 cents. Obviously a little more for the 5's and 10's. The plastic cards can be recharged and cost basically nothing.

She then told me that it was a company wide problem since the stores were purchased back by Disney. She seemed very reluctant to tell me this. (I'm not sure they are supposed to tell people that).

So you are right. I'm glad others have posted that I can get some when I arrive at Disney. :thumbsup2

We just bought DD today at our local store. I dont think they lose money on them. First think of all the ones that are kept out of circulation as souvenirs, second think of them the same way as casino chips, its not "real money" it is just Disney Dollars. People spend them more freely. You let go of your real US currency when you bought them.

Just my thought....

I managed to get some a couple of weeks ago because yesterday was my son's birthday. Between my sister and I we bought almost everything they had. They only had a bunch of ten's, 3 5's and 1 single. I hope they'll be getting more in soon.

The Disney Store closest to me was out and advised all Chicagoland stores were sold out currently.

I asked if they knew when some more would come in and they advised they had no date on that.

I remember this happened last time they changed the face of the money. ( When they went from the regular Disney Dollars to the one's noting Year of a Million Dreams )

I bought the gift card which they advised was good in the parks as well.

I work at a Disney Store and after the Disney buyback, the Dollars we had on hand were not replaced immediately once they were sold. We were out for about a month and when the new ones came in, they were different designs (Mickey from different years featured on each bill). I think the timing of the designs changing and the buyback just happened to coincide and there just happened to be a delay in getting the new Dollars out to the stores. We also ran out of gift cards for a week or so as a result -- more people buying the GC's since the Dollars were gone.

Our store finally received more Dollars a couple weeks ago so I'd imagine the other stores should be getting them as well, if they haven't already. You can always call the store and ask them, they might even be able to hold some for you for up to 24 hours so you can be sure they won't sell out while you're on your way to the Store. And it's true that we can order replacement items, but we really don't know when anything is coming until we open the boxes (that's for all merchandise, not just Disney Dollars).

The worst though was a couple months ago, our store sold out of adult WDW tickets!!

Yahoo! My family and anyone who knows me well enough knows that when it comes to getting me a present for any occasion or holiday the best thing is DD. This Saturday morning there was an envelope filled with DD on the counter with a real nice note from my DH saying that he had been trying since the beginning of July to get me DD and they had been out. So at least I know that around here DD are back!

Was planning on buying some for my DD but our local one closed. Surprised me because it always seemed busy. :sad1:
