Disney Dollars = No more nagging!

Well, okay, there's still some nagging going on at our house , but much less thanks to the great motivator- Disney dollars

I decided 2 weeks ago to start a chart for each of my kids- DS 8 and DD 7.
I put all the main things that I nag about on the chart- put your coat and backpack on the peg after school, no more than 2 hours of screen time, 30 minutes of exercise per day, 30 minutes of reading, NO fighting, 1 chore which can be different every day, and extra credit (also assigned by me or DH).

They get one sticker for each completed box on the chart, and 10 stickers equals $1 Disney buck. On weekends, I allow them to earn additional stickers for 30 minute increments of exercise (playing outside counts as exercise) and at the end of the week if they have gotten all of their stickers (this has not happened yet) they can earn as much as $5. I'm not sure if they have done the math and figured out that they're getting .10 per sticker
but they seem to love the system and it is working really well. Never before has DS come up to me to ask what chore I have for him today
and we have discovered that he can actually change his own sheets! Now if I could get him to read more

DD is doing great too- usually her brother is trying to catch up so she doesn't get more stickers than him!

Just thought I would share how well this is working for us!

Hope you don't mind, but I'd like to borrow your idea. I will still put some in their baskets, but will also allow my ds and dd to earn some more for our trip in a few weeks.

I started doling out Disney Dollars yesterday and they have been a great motivator. I found a cute design in the DISign forum of a dollar bill with WDW characters on it and printed those on my computer. I left the first dollars in an envelope on their pillow and they found them Sat. night.

Today they could earn them for good behavior while I ran errands after church and on the way home from dinner I offered them for a quiet ride home. My kids always fight over who is going to be "last" for taking a bath so I offered a surprise to whoever went first. It was my dd so I gave her 2 extra DD's. Tomorrow is ds' birthday so I will put some in his birthday card.

I needed to start giving them out because we are leaving in 3 weeks-but the kids don't think we are going until July, so they don't have much time to earn a lot.

I made a sheet filled with "hidden mickey" style circles that were just the outlines. I made one sheet of 10X10 for each child. Which is actually $100 on each page but there is no limit to how much they can earn. When the kids make good grades, do good deeds, accomplish EXTRA chores etc. they earn Disney Dollars. My husband or I initial how ever many "hidden mickeys" circles they have earned for the job completed. This is posted clearly on the fridge and keps our two sons competing with each other for whom can earn the most. When we arrive in WDW we will purchase their earned DD's and they will have free reign. DO I SOUND CRAZY?? This will be used as their own money for any extras they want out of the parks. Whether it be souveneirs or extra snacks/drinks whatever. My huband and I will of course pay for the scheduled meals we are eating in the parks and they will each have their own "waist pouch of waste" or junk food/snacks that we they will get to load each night from stuff we'll purchase at the Wal-Mart and we will have water bottles too, but I figured this way we won't have any issues of "I want" "can I have" "but MOM." Maybe wishfull thinking!! but hoping if they had to earn it they may be more reluctant to spend it and be more picky about what they want. We are going to give them more freedom on this trip and see how it works out. I'm hoping it will lead to less stress for all of us amd I promise to do my best to bite my tongue over their purchases. WISH US LUCK!!

I have used disney dollars as a motivator for my special needs son to get potty trained--and it's worked!!! Now he does extra stuff to earn the dollars: helping dry dishes, picking up his toys, good behavior in tough situations etc! Love these!!! We have even shared disney dollars with friends and their kids to help motivate them to save for our next vacation together! Takes away a lot of begging and whining at stores because DS can decide if he wants another toy car or a disney dollar. (Unless it's a new disney pixar cars car--disney dollar wins which is a beautiful thing!)

very cute! our disney store said they don't carry dd anymore. my SIL tried at another store with the same results. could they be regional?

My kids are younger (5 and 4) so we have a simpler format. Tey ach have a "helpers chart" (just a blank piece of paper hanging on the wall) and for every "help" the get a star (simple foil star stickers. 700 for a dollar!)
The get stars for eating all their dinner, for getting dressed quickly, for tidying up the room, everything!
Our trip is in 2 weeks, so I'm not giving them time of getting tired of it.

I may have to try something like this with dd this summer. My only problem is that she is 6 and her brother is 2 so he doesn't really have many opportunities to earn Disney dollars but I don't want her having more money to spend on our trip than he does, although I know he won't know the difference.

We had our kids decorate some empty pickle jars to use as their Disney jars. They don't know when we'll feel the need to reward them, but they know it could come at any time. Needless to say, their rooms have been clean for three months and the grades have been higher than ever.

Hmmm. I am going to try this with DS12 so I can get him to complete his planner and his homework. This will work for his chores also.

I think I will do some for myself as well for not smoking!!

Any thoughts on how many stickers to equal a disney dollar, because if DS does all his homework stuff that could be at the min 3 stickers a day, and more with chores. Any thoughts?
