Disney Dollar Dilemma

Ok, I want my Christmas gift to be money for future trip.
Don't want cash cause it will end up disappearing.

If I ask for Disney Dollars will I be able to use them to purchase tickets in advance.
I don't see how I could do that over the phone or online.
I guess my only option would be at the Disney Store?
