Disney disappointment: ROTR

1. VIP Tour guides are not getting access to that attraction at all. If their guests want to ride the attraction, they need to show up early and get a boarding group like everyone else.

2. You are not held hostage. Standing in a 10 hour line would be holding you hostage.

3. All over the boarding group sign ups it says you are not guaranteed to get on the ride.

4. If you did wait in a 10 hour line then the ride broke down and you couldn't ride, then you'd be even more mad because you wasted your day. At least this method lets you see the park and do other things while you wait.

I’ve wasted more time than that in my life. Would I? If you have to have an answer, I wouldn’t rule it out if that was the way for me to get a chance to ride it. But, you miss one of the points, I didn’t have a choice.

The thing with the virtual queue is the same number of people get on to the ride vs just standing in a physical queue. So if with the virtual queue you were able to go around and do other things and then found out you wouldn't get to ride but you got all that other stuff done. If there was a physical queue you could choose to wait or not but if you waited you would literally just be standing in line and then still find out that you wouldn't get to ride but you would have gotten nothing else done during that time

I get your other points about maybe not opening a technically challenging ride that is going to have issues during such a busy time of year but I don't get why you would prefer a physical queue vs a virtual queue when with both you would have ultimately not getting to ride just with the virtual queue you were able to do other stuff while waiting

I think many people are missing this point, no matter how many times it is mentioned. The VQ is basically a standby line that starts at the ride entrance and goes all the way out the front gate to the Boardwalk(which is about how long this line was). So everyone that didnt get to ride was basically somewhere towards the back end of the line. The only difference is that they were forced to wait in a physical line. The ride would have functioned the same way regardless, and as I noted in the spoiler thread there are issues they have been having with animatronics not resetting and working correctly.
As to waiting to open a ride when it is 100% ready, that is near impossible. It is only after running the ride systems over and over with real people moving through the line do the issues they dont see pop up. Anyone visiting a new attraction should be aware of that. It happened with Hagrids bike coaster, Flight of Passage, the shaman in the river journey, and even to an extent with Slinky Dog Dash.

I 100% agree with this - at some point the need to just open it to a full crowd and see how it performs under those scenarios and adjust as needed, etc ... and I actually feel like it has been performing better than I anticipated

I do think one can question the timing of opening it though and perhaps leading into one of (if not the) busiest times of year is the best time to "stress test" it though

I like the VQ system. I hope they have it when we go in September. We are used to virtual lines since we use DAS for our youngest child. Honestly the other thing I like about the BGs is it means my family has the incentive to get up and get moving. If they aren't interested in getting up I will just go alone. People that want to ride will get there. I really appreciate knowing I won't be stuck in a long standby line.

They would have capped the line and you wouldn't have gotten to ride whether it was standby, or not. If the line had been traditional standby, you would be in the same boat, have not ridden the ride, and also not done anything else. You'd be on here just the same complaining that it was ridiculous and maybe Disney could have done a virtual line or something.

If it weren't for thr Virtual Queue, then you would have to pretty much spend the whole day standing in line for one attraction. I hope they continue for new e-ticket attractions so you don't have to spend all day in line. Thats a serious sacrifice for people that don't go very often.

This. I've stated many times I was there during the debut week. BGs completely messed with my plans (normally an early bird but premiere late in the vacation and traveling with someone not interested in it). I would much rather have VQs that allow people the freedom to go elsewhere instead of standing in line all day.

I thought they give you a FP when your BG doesn`t get to ride? They don`t do that anymore?
I don't think they're doing that anymore if you have the backup boarding group since its already a toss up as to if you'll get to ride and they tell you that up front.

They did get through the original boarding groups. We were in the backup. I knew it could happen. I knew we could leave. But that didn’t keep me from checking every bit to see how it was progressing. Personally, I would rather have the standby line option. It is Iger and not Eisner, my fault. But still salty they quit 1.5 hrs before park closed.
Haven't been to Galaxy's Edge yet until another few weeks but really hoping the VQ stays in effect so we can do other things instead of waiting in line all day.

Universal closed the new Hagrid's ride early at least one day this week. They just had a sign up saying "closing early today" well before closing time, don't remember what time or what day that was but I believe it was still daylight and it was a 10 p.m. closing. Those lines were easily 280 minutes at any given time of day and at least up to 420 minutes when we checked the app. No way were we going to attempt stepping into that line at all because it would have wasted all of our park time (and this was our first Universal visit).

I guess I see it differently because Disney offers its guests the opportunity with the 2-hour return to do many other things either in or outside of Hollywood Studios.

A) The virtual queue is the best method, currently, and likely will be going forward for quite some time. B) I totally understand the OP's dissatisfaction which happens whether anyone or any corporation is at fault or not. No one enjoys being unable to get on a ride for whatever reason. C) Got to ride RotR last week. . .underwhelmed.
