Can I purchase the discount card at guest services at the same time as I upgrade my 1 day base ticket to an AP? Also, is it correct that I only need to purchase one DDE card for our family of 4?

I am not sure about getting the card at the same time you get your AP but We usually get our AP thru the disney site and then it comes as a voucher......it gets activated the time we go thru the guest services at any of the parks....We usually have our DDE card ordered and comes because of our voucher number....
We have paid for up to ten people on our dde card.....it is a good savings.....ther is another post about it being changed in november........Just for your info

The only way to get the DDE card is to call or fax the Disney Dining Experience office. After you upgrade the 1 day ticket to the AP, you can call the DDE office and order the card. If you call early enough in the day, you can get a temporary card (after 5:30 pm) at the Guest Relations office at EPCOT's main entrance.

The DDE office is not open on weekends. IIRC, their hours are 8a -5p Eastern.

The card is good for up to 10 people.

I am trying to time the purchase of our DDE. Last time we bought, I cut it too close and had to use the temporary card on our trip--it was terrible--I had to send the check back almost everytime to get the discount.

If I am going around MLK weekend in January, when do you think I should order the DDE card to maximize the time I have to use it and yet still receive the actual card prior to my trip?

Call DDE office sometime during the first few days of December. Ask the CM when you can call to get a DDE card that will expire at the end of January, 2009. He/She will tell you (probably around the 7th or so). Then call back on that day and order it. Verify when you actually order it that the expiration date is correct. The card takes about 3 - 4 weeks to arrive, so you should get it before your MLK trip.
