Hi!

We have the DDP for our stay in a month. I was just diagnosed with severe reflux and although Im on medication, Im still trying to figure out things I can eat. Mainly they need to be plain!! lol.....Any one out there find some good things to eat for us refluxers? Can you ask them to make things without sauces or something??? I could really use some help, Im getting depressed thinking of all the yummy things I will have to pass on!!!!!

I know every case isn't the same, but I have had acid reflux for years(I take medicine for it) and haven't found anything that I can't eat at WDW. I know that sausage and peppers doesn't agree with me, but I leave them alone.

WDW is really great about assisting people with dietary issues. I am also lactose intolerant, so I just tell the waiter my issues and they have the chef come over and let me know what I can have. They will do the same at a buffet. If I decide to go against one of their recommendations, I just take a lactaid and keep it moving.

From my experience, it takes a while for the acid reflux medicine to get in your system. Once it does, you should be ok; however, I still have to sit up three hours after I eat so that my food can digest. I just build that time in so that I'm not eating late at night.

Have a great trip!

Thanks for your input!!

Would they laugh at me if I asked the chef a question? I cant do spices or tomato or well, tons of things right now....some days I feel almost normal again while other days - bleck!!!

Would there be something I could ask for at Via Napoli? My DH really wants to go there!! Pizza light on the cheese and no sauce?? I just am not sure- lol!!! I dont want to make a big deal, and take the chef's time away from others who have severe allergies and stuff, you know?

They definitely won't be offended if you want to ask the chef a question. Do whatever you need to do to ensure that you are eating safely.

You should be able to get pizza at Via Napoli that fits your dietary restrictions. It sounds as if you would want white pizza. White pizza does not have tomato sauce, but usually has some other type of sauce or no sauce at all. There is one on the menu, but you may not like all the toppings. Just let your server know what you want on it and they shouldn't have a problem making it that way.

Thanks so much! I was wondering about the white pizza.....around here, white pizza has a ton of garlic....wonder if it does there???:thumbsup2

If you understand your reflux triggers then yes you absolutely can ask to have your food prepared by leaving off those offending trigger foods. If there's a sauce then yes they'll leave it off or serve it on the side at your request. Yes they'll prepare food with low spices or without garlic when possible. If a food is premarinated or a sauce contains something you can't have like garlic then obviously they can't extract the offending spice/ingredient, but they can do a lot to help. You really shouldn't need to speak with a chef for general changes like leaving off sauces or spices but absolutely feel free to ask whatever questions you have. If your server doesn't know then he/she should absolutely at a minimum ask on your behalf. If you have a lot of questions then it probably is easier to ask to speak to a chef.

ETA: I just want to clarify something. Please understand that I'm not saying that your problem isn't severe enough to speak with a chef. I don't know just how much your dietary changes will impact your reflux and just how strict you'll need to be. Only you'll know that and it'll take some trial and error to get that right. I was recommending trying to just make simple requests and ask question only of your server rather than asking for a chef because it is SLOW going through a chef. When it's what you have to do then it's absolutely worth the wait and if that's what you need to do because just leaving off a sauce isn't enough then absolutely do it. But, if I was able to just leave off a sauce or seasoning then I would definitely jump a the chance because currently all of my TS meals take at least 2 hours, often longer, when most people can be in and out between 1 and 1.5 hours depending on the meal. It's SOOOOO worth the trouble when it's needed but if it's not needed then it's definitely not worth it.

My dsis has to have all her food plain. We havent had to ask the chef for that just the server. They made all the arrangements. If you are nervous though it doesnt hurt to put in a dietary restriction when you make your ADR.
