Disney dining plan

Thanks everyone for all your help , I know I have to pay for the dinning plan for all members of the party and i know I have to. Book restaurants way in advance , the table credits that dh wouldn't use , I was going to use on Cinderella's royal table which I know he would have to use his credits then as we've done chef Micky and Hollywood and vine before , like most of you have said il have to go through the menus and calculate would we are more likely to order and see if I can find places that serve chips , this is hard as a lot of places don't list them even though some places do , do them . We was quoted £558 for 3 adults and 1 child to upgrade the dining plan for 2 weeks , is this good , also I have to sort money out for tips too x

If I have my conversion and math right, it sounds like less than $55/day for all of you to be able to eat a TS meal/day. That's about what it would cost just two of you if you pay OOP. But you'll want to do at least one TS per day to make it work. If you use too many of the TS questions for a QS, then you've paid more than it is worth.

Thanks when I look at it like. That it doesn't seem such a bad deal

Looking at your numbers wow you saved a lot less then I expected.:scared1:
Same here. IMO it wouldn't be worth it to buy the DP if all I was saving on a week was $50 and as posted, $50 in items that would not have normally been purchased and then tip on that. IMO savings is compared to what you would have spent for the same or similar meals and added value is anything above that one actually wants. The amount for items you get but really don't care if you do or don't should not be included as a value IMO plus one pays tip on that extra as well. We normally get about 30% to 50% over what we would have spent and often also a good 10-20% savings over what we would have spent. Remember one pays tip (or reasonable people should) on those meals at face value plus there is considerable risk. The only trip we've had where we didn't get that type of value was when I became ill and proved the risk exists.

The truth is the DP is a specialty item that work best for short trips, those that plan well when the planned items increase savings/value and when kids 3-9 are involved. Also one tends to get little or no value from the QS (not uncommonly spending more than OOP), a little more from the basic plan and the most from the Dlx plan assuming it fits otherwise and assuming one uses the applicable plan to in a way that maximizes value.

The DDP used to be a great deal, a must have on our trips. As time went on, the value was reduced, but for us, still a god investment. Now? I am not at all sure. I know that in order to know, you really have to have a clear understanding of your family's dining habits while on vacation, because if you do not, you may find yourself urging your family to "get dessert" or to order an item based on cost, rather then because it is what they want to eat at the time.

I realized on out last trip that if I was going to travel with just my DGD, I would get the QS plan because it would be a plan we would use. I know that a regular DDP, for my 12 YO would be a waste of money.

This year I am going without a plan at all, and My DH is freaking out because he likes to know exactly what is paid and what is not, and this whole OOP for everything is new to me. And it is F&W.... :confused3 WE will see.

The problem is that for many it's easy to spend more for the QS plan than OOP plus you have the risk of the plan itself. One can get gift cards or a prepaid visa to budget.

I know. I would need to crunch numbers, and see what would be best for us. Years ago., it was easy. The DDP was a good plan for us, and we just needed to buy it and enjoy. Each year it got more expensive for less value, so now nothing is a sure thing with any of the plans. I don't mind crunching numbers as part of my planning though, thank goodness.

This trip I am traveling with a friend who would never ever benefit from a dining plan, even if I could add it to my stay, so we are both paying OOP. My DH is a mess, because he is the guy who "pays" for the trips, and he is all in a fluffle. Every trip we have had the DDP, and he never thinks about additional money other than extras for meals, tips and shopping. I really need to sit down and figure out how much our meals will cost, as well as the Epcot treats we are going for. It has been a long time since I was in the World for F&W so I have to put some time into this.
