We're starting to plan our next trip in 2012 and are looking at the dining plan. The rub is coming from the children's menu. Our son will be about 2 months shy of his 10th birthday on this trip and I can't imagine him wanting to eat chicken nuggets, hot dogs and mac-n-cheese for every meal for a week. The kid already eats like a horse so the children's menus will leave him hungry. Can we bump his dining plan up to the adult version? I can't imagine they would turn away an extra $23/day but has anyone done this?

I will definitely be using the DDP when we go in August. I didn't use it last year when we went and the amount of money I spent on food was almost equal to the DDP and that was only with 2 TS meals:confused3 So for me, I think it I would definitely get my money's worth.

Yes, you can purchase the adult for you son, but I believe you have to puchase adult tickets for him as well.

We did not use the DDP on our last trip and, when it was all done, my MIL and I agreed that we'd likely have not only saved a bit of money, but we also would've enjoyed the trip better not worrying about penny-pinching on the meals. The kids occasionally requested desserts and, if we got them, that brought the bill up. If we didn't get them, the kids were disappointed.

It just seems like the right thing for us to do this time.

We have a family of 5 with 4 "eaters". Interestingly, my DD4 eats more of a variety of food than my DD12...so we let the older one order from the kids menu and the younger chooses what's interesting to her palate from the adult menu. Sometimes it's not quantity but food options. We like the deluxe plan because we like to go to the dinner shows that use 2 points. Also, like others, we use the unused snack points to get snacks for the road. It's also important to remember that you can always use a table service as a quick serve, which still gives you the flexibility of grabbing something on the go. Finally, since we like to try a variety of foods at one restaurant, each of us makes certain to order something different on the menu, including the desserts, so we can sample from each other. That makes it just as fun for us!

We LOVE the dining plan--esp when its free :rotfl2: :). If they don't re-offer it for the end of August I think I'm still going to purchase it. I like the fact that everything is "pre-paid" & you can order what you want w/out worrying about the $$. I know you can order what ever you want & pay for it with cash/CC but I'm SOOOO cheap & I wouldn't splurge like I do on the DP..I do wish we had an option for an appetizer OR dessert. But if one of us wants an appetizer I will certainly pay OOP for it. And we usually don't order desserts except when we are at disney .....:thumbsup2

My only negative is: My son is now 10 & many of the adult options are not for him. He will more than likely order off the kids menu so it may be a loss on his side... But I'm sure my other son & I will make up for the difference :)

For me it is a question of freedom to order what I want & not look at the price. If I did not do the DDP I would be monitering every penny we spent & not order apps, desserts or have a snack every day. So for us it is a treat, a relief & a relaxation.

:thumbsup2 You read my mind :)
