so do i get this right,if i am on ddp frount of house and server tells me i will have to tip 18% before i sit down.End of meal will get a bill for an 18% tip left on table by server.Seams a bit intimadating to me to be told and tip forced into your face.
No. NOT on the Disney Dining Plan. That automatic 18% gratuity applies currently to all parties of eight or more. Effective with the new contract, the automatic 18% gratuity applies to parties of six or more; and the 18% gratuity will be added to the bills of Guests using the Disney Dining Experience card, before their 20% discount is taken.

Does anyone have any ideas when an "official" announcement would be made? I'm guessing maybe at the time that the 08 package rates come out?? sooner?? I don't have any idea of what the time frame is on this kind of thing :confused3 (vote passed to public announcement)

i understand what you say but if a party of 10 of us (thats how many travel in our party)gets a bill for 18%.I still dont know how they are going to enforce it KTTWK i never put CC on it incase it gose missing:confused3

They'll enforce it by adding the 18% to your check or presenting you with a check for the 18%.

If you choose to not pay, the manager will make an appearance & if you still don't anti up, security may be called in and you could be ejected from the park.

If you're notified of the charge, whether on the phone, by the hostess or on the menu, and continue to dine at the restaurant you're agreeing to pay it.

The other option would be for them to charge the 18% to your room, even if a CC isn't given at check in. Then, the resort would require you to pay your bill before check-out and if you don't, a bill would be mailed to your house (just like in cases where there's room damage).

Would it happen, probably not, but it could.

Today The Union contract was passed , so the servers will Lose the auto 18% grat on prepaid dining plans, and it will make us have to solicite tips to regular guests who are veterans of the dining plan that already know the grat was included..

So, who does this union represent? If it is the servers, then didn't the servers themselves decide to do away with the auto gratuity???? Please explain--who took it from the servers? It doesn't appear to me to be a Disney doing something to the servers, but a union (the servers) doing it to themselves :confused3

Really Confused, Cindy

To that lady who said to get a real job and not be a server ??? Whats up with that?? At Disney we are all professional servers disney will not hire servers unless they have 3 years experience in a great restaurant, This is something I went to school for, fine dining service, In other Countries, being a server Is a profession, Its not our fault that Florida only pays 3.65 hr plus tips, So learn how to tip those who are in charge of getting your food out to you, or eat at Fast food places

I agree... if all the servers go get REAL jobs, just who do you think is going to SERVE you lady?
My mother raised 2 kids waiting tables and 18 years ago when I started Serving people for a living I had a whole new respect for my mom. Waiting tables is hard work and dealing with snobs like that make it harder. And why is it that Florida gets away with paying $3.65 an hour. I moved here in 1999 from California and my pay was cut by 2/3. :confused3

Excellent post!

Working as a server was probably the hardest job I've ever had. You work your tushie off and have to be pleasant to people who you'd just rather dump a bowl of soup on. (oops....wait, I actually did that)

In one of these threads someone posted that they hoped that all servers didn't feel the same way as Disneyserver, and I hate to say it, but most do at one time or another. Servers get pretty tired of being looked down on. They're treated terribly and really do deserve just as much respect as everyone else.

I am disappointed if tips not included in 2008 ddp it is true, because I planned on only keeping ten dollars cash on me and not charging to our room at all. :sad2:

However, before I decide whether the plan is still worth it, I'll need to know the 2008 prices. Right now, it looks as if it is still of value for my family, because we like a TS almost every day.

If they are removing the tip from the DDP and increasing the price, it decreases the value of the plan considerably. I'll be watching for the 2008 plan details to be announced by Disney. :surfweb:

I have not read all these threads, but this is interesting.
Of course packages have been sold through and including 2007 holidays. :confused3
IF this is true about the DDP tips, I believe DDP use will be cut considerably, except maybe for free dining times, if that continues after 2007.
Although I agree with another poster who stated many people are not as well versed on WDW packages or vacations and just pay whatever. But I certainly can see where this will actually help those who complain about no walk up availability any longer. I think it will somewhat thin out the WDW restaurant crowds. In the long run, I think Disney is shooting themselves in the foot. But if this is true, only time will tell.
I don't mind having the gratuity added to the DDE bill. I am almost surprised they did not do that already. In our case I am sure we currently tip more than the automatic gratuity. But it is nice to have it added on just making it less trouble free.

Servers are paid $3.65 per hour? I only made $2.11 + tips when I was a server (not at Disney) Most servers were I worked made over $10/hour with tips, that was over 10 years ago

When we did the DDP last year I think the lowest our bill came to $250 for 5 adults. At 18% tip that would be a $45 tip. It usually took about 1 hr to 1 1/2 hrs per meal. At 1 1/2 hrs that is $30 per hour. When I worked as a server we used to tip the bus person 15 to 20 % of our tips, if Disney servers did the same that would be still $24 per hour + hourly wage. This is computing a rate of 5 guest per 1 1/2 hours. I would think that the servers can handle more than 5 guest per hour. On the DDP servers were gauranteed tip. Without DDP the servers will make whatever is left for them by guest which may be much less.

The $45 tip would compute to about $9 per guest. Subtract the $9 from DDP and that leaves about $30 for Disney for two meals and a snack/day.

If Disney keeps tipping with DDP, I will pack my bags, quit my teaching job and become a server at Disney. If I had the rude guest as mentioned in above post, I would just make it my job to make them happy.

In Indiana we get 2.13 a hour plus tips. In the real world tips are not 45.00 from one table or at least not where I work. IHOP and we are lucky to get 2.00 off a table and when you get 5.00 you are jumping for joy.:lmao: Okay I am only half way being serious. Yes we have the older crowd so the tips are alot lower then the steak joint but I do okay. Not a fraction of what some people post of here that they assume the servers make. But I think I am a good server, keep my customers happy. You have good days and bad days money wise but servers work there butts off for it. We also have table work we have to do plus keep everything clean at the end of our shift..

DISNEY TOOK IT AWAY THEY TOLD THE UNION IT WILL BE NON NEGIOTABLE , WE WERE LUCKY TO GET SOME STUFF FROM DISNEY, THEY DO NOT CARE FOR US SERVERS.

OK YOUR IN INDIANA, WERE IN THE LARGEST TOURIST AREA OF THE USA , WE ALSO HAVE A VERY EXPENSIVE LIVING EXPENSES HERE . SINCE DISNEY ONLY HIRES EXPERIENCED PROFESSIONAL SERVERS WHO HAVE GREAT BACKROUNDS, WE DEMAND A LITTLE MORE RESPECT FROM THE GUESTS..

HAVE ANY OF YOU EVER TIPPED BAD BECAUSE YOUR FOOD TOOK LONGER TO COME OUT??? THATS 99% NOT YOUR SERVERS FAULT AND WE SHOULDN'T BE BLAMED WITH A REDUCED TIP, WE ORDER YOUR FOOD AS SOON AS WE GET IT FROM YOU...

BUT IHOP IS A GOOD RESTAURANT FOR PEOPLE WHO LIKE TO SERVE MANY PEOPLE WITH A LOW CHECK AVERAGE, AND I RESPECT ALL SERVERS BECAUSE WE HAVE A VERY HARD JOB.. SPECIALLY WITH VERY NEEDY GUESTS WHO RUN AND RUN YOU BACK AND FORTH.

Wouldn't this be more appropriate on the RUMOURS board since this is a completely UNCOMFIRMED, unsubstantiated rumour?

I think a LOT of people are getting their pants in a twist over this one thread started by a poster who signed up today and has 27 posts - 25 on this thread alone.

This really seems to be designed to :stir:
strange is the pointing guests towards the DDE - a mantra of many who are "against" the DDP for "ruining" the restaurants.
throw in the derogatory remarks made by the OP about the "caliber" of DDP guests and the "dumbing down" of the dining experience at WDW- also reflective of the DDP haters
Look how many have rallied behind with their pitchforks vowing that they will reject the DDP:rolleyes1

i just can't buy into this hype. Only a couple of weeks until the 2008 packages come out folks, not long to wait for the truth.;)

We tip out food runners, and bartenders, and some locations bussers, and the expo and the grat we currently receive on the DDP goes on our paychecks after we share with the backup cast members that help present your food...

Sorry sir i wish I was making this up, But I am Not, the ddp will either stay the same in price or be increased, are you guys all in caves? the price of food and everything is going up, so of course Disney makes changes in prices, and what there doing doesn't benefit the guests and the servers and bartenders in removing the auto grat that we have all gotten used to the servers and the guests...

until last year it was 2.13 but since the state min wage increased so did the servers...see below
-----------------------------------------------------
For "tipped employees" meeting eligibility requirements for the tip credit under the FLSA, employers may count tips actually received as wages under the FLSA, but the employer must pay "tipped employees" a direct wage in an amount equal to the minimum wage of $6.67 minus $3.02 (which, as required by Florida's Constitution, is the 2003 tip credit existing under the FLSA), or a direct hourly wage of $3.65 as of January 1, 2007.

----------------------------------------------------------
and like you said with tips you make more per hour but why should a server make less than half as much as one in California (before tips) or any other state for that matter? serving is the same no matter where you live

Personally I think that you as a server are snobbish... nobody demands respect...you earn it. and just because you call yourself a "Professional" server doesn't mean that you are better than anyone else. Everyone starts somewhere, whether it be IHOP or wherever.
If I get bad service I will let you know it and I won't be leaving you 20%.
If I demanded anything from my customers I would be looking for a new job. My customers like and respect me because I treat them the same no matter what walk of life they come from. (I may go in the back and count to 10 sometimes but I always come back out smiling)

yes the guests from other countries are horrible tippers if they tip at all, the english are the worst, and the irish, and canadians if they tip at all its 5% and they all know we live off tips, its there excuse not to tip well because of the rep they have had for many years, and they dont read tip cards even if u put it right on top of there bill

I must admit he is right. When I was in Italy several years ago, I was tipping everyone. Then I went out to dinner with my cousins who live there and when I went to leave a tip, they thought I was nuts. They said they never leave tips. I was pretty shocked. I guess the tip was in the $5 can of orange Fanta LOL
