Disney dining plan question

We are staying at AKV in the fall. Our 180 day mark for reservations is coming up soon. How do you go about making reservations at a restaurant that requires full payment upon booking, without the dining plan purchased yet? Do I pay upfront and then get credited at the restaurant and then get charged the two table service credits? I'm trying to hold out as long as possible to pay for the dining plan. Any help would be appreciated.

I would have had this question however I decided NOT to get the dining plan for our May trip...

However... I think the correct answer is that you will pay for the dining upfront.

When you Purchase the dining plan, that amount would be deducted from your plan price and you will pay the difference.

I say this and also realize that folks on the dining plan will also have to "hold' the reservation as well.....

To the OP: You will have to pay for the meal (I'm guessing CRT or a dinner show) at the time you book the meal since you won't have the dining plan. Your credit card will be credited at the restaurant (CRT) or when you pick up your dinner show tickets when you tell the CM you want to use your dining plan credits. Or, some people have called the dining line after they have added the dining plan, arranged to link the dining plan to the res and gotten a refund to their credit card at that time. You will still have to give the CM your credit card info for the "no show" guarantee.

I did the following for my trip last June:
Made my reservation and paid the fee up front. Once I added my dining plan, I called and had them refund my money, adding the dining plan, preserving my reservation.
Be patient when you call to change over as it will take time so you don't lose your reservation.
You will have prob. have to give them a CC for the "hold fee".
Personally I would not wait until the night/day of the meal and have them charge your dining credicts. It can take 7-10 business days minimum to receive your refund, or when you get home you may find out you were charge on both your dining plan and your charge card (this has happened often).
