I'm looking into planning a trip part of it will be at a WDW Hotel and the other part Dvc point rental. So i should be able to purchase the dining plan for the number of nights i'm staying at the WDW hotel...correct? What happens if i don't use some of my credits before my hotel stay ends or when exactly do credits expire? Thanks for you help.

You can add on the dining plan if you are getting a package - that means room plus tickets (at least 1 day ticket). Your credits will expire at midnight on your day of checkout from the WDW resort. There is no refund for unused credits.
