This September we are eating on site and doing the DDP for the first time.

Was just wondering about a couple of things. When you tell the server you are on the DDP do they give you a different menu than the normal one and is the choice of food much more limited?

Also is it only main and dessert you can have or can you swap the dessert for a starter?

Thanks!

 for table service the server should as you at the beginning of your meal. The menu is the same - no changes if you are on the DDP.

No sadly you cannot swap your dessert for a starter - but you could ask for you dessert to go?

At the counter service I have read its better to tell the server you are on the DDP before you order - I think it easier for them to input that way? Also I have read at some counter service places you can swap a dessert for a drink (you need to ask for this), or if they ice creams on the menu you can collect it later your server just needs to make a note of it on you reciept :)

At TS restaurants you get the same menu. The servers ask you if you are on the DDP so they can help you order what you are entitled too plus if you order anything 'off plan' they can do it on a seperate check :thumbsup2

Sorry no swapping desserts for appitizers :sad2:

Also at CS let them know if you are going to be ordering anything that you will not be charging to your DDP as they need to ring it up seperatly :thumbsup2

Thanks guys. Pity you can't swap dessert for starters but it's not the end of the world, will probably be nice to try a few of them. :goodvibes

What flight are you on as we go on the 17th too? We are on the VS015 :thumbsup2

Another point to consider as it is your first time and it sounds like you have the TS option. YOu will need to have ADR's booked for your stay otherwise you could find it hard to get a TS on the day. A lot of places are already fully booked or a strugle to get ADR's for.

i 2nd the adrs advice, pop over to the restaurant board there is loads of into there on how to use your credits well, and which restaurants to try / avoid.
the ddp is massive amounts of food, we did it last year with the three kids, and were convinced they would be hungry OMG, we ordered snack, cereals, donuts etc from wegoshop.com, but didnt need hardly anything, if you have a refillable mug, you get coffee in that * 2 botttles of drink (oj, milk powerade, etc) which meant we left bfast at th cs in the hotel everymorning with 9 bottles of water :scared1:, yes, it soon goes, but you dont realise how big everything is over there.
if you are travelling with kids however older than 6 i would consider upgrading the to the adult meals, kids meals are very limited and neither healthy or uk friendly (pb&j and mac n cheese just didnt do it for my kids....

p.s if you want any recommendations, try boma at the AKL which is v v good and 1 ts, and avoid the liberty tree tavern which was awful!

Got all the ADR's sorted already! :thumbsup2

another tip -
if you order a drink that isn't refillable, many of the table service restaurants will also give you a refillable drink for free...

to explain...

say you're eating at the 50's prime time cafe and you order a milk shake as your drink...
a milk shake isn't refillable...
but most drinks are refillable (if you order a coke, you can have as much as your want - they keep refilling it for you)..

but since you ordered a shake, in some of the table service restaurants, they'll also let you order a drink that's refillable and include it for free...

my daughter did this at several TS restaurants she ate at last year...
