Disney Dining,DIS Meets, and WAIT-Why is that lady holding..... FINAL THOUGHTS 11/27

It is so sad to hear and see the effects of the oil spill. I'm glad that you all were able to have a great time regardless. It's always nice to have some time with extended family!

Thanks for sharing your beach trip with us! It breaks my heart to see what the oil spill has done to the beach. :( I love the picture of Reid reading to Meg! So sweet!

Love the family pics, Michelle. The mini golf ones are too cute; I especially like the one of Rachel helping Meg with her swing. It is so sad the effect of this oil spill on the beaches. :sad2:

Great beach update. Yes, it is so sad what the oil spill has done to the beach and to the economy. I feel most sorry for the poor sea animals that have to swim in that muck. Thank goodness the leak has been capped, and hopefully will remain so. Perhaps they can recover quickly from all of the devastating effects this tragedy has had on them.

Sounds like you guys had a good time at the beach despite not being able to swim in the water. I think my two favorite pictures are of Reid reading to Meg and Rachel helping Meg with her swing.

Thanks for the beach update. So sad to see the effects of the spill. It is still hard to believe the magnitude of it.

Looks like you had some great family time, nevertheless!

Love, love, love Elizabeth's dress when she was playing mini golf!! Do you know where she got it? Probably a place where old people like me shouldn't shop but I can't help myself. So cute!

Glad you guys had a good time at the beach. Same thing happened to my lens on our trip to DL. Now I have a bunch of blurry pics. Hope I can find a program to try and fix them. Looking forward to your next update.

Thanks, Mary! :)

Let me know if you find some way to clear up those fuzzy shots. I feel stupid for not checking that switch to begin with, but I never change it from AF to MF, so I never even thought of checking that switch. When I showed it to Kevin, it was the first thing he checked! Smarty!

That stinks about not being able to swim in the ocean... and can I just say I LOVE the T-shirts! I want one
I'm glad y'all had fun at the beach though, mini golfing is always a fun thing :thumbsup2

We all hated not being able to get in the ocean----That's the best part about being at the beach. We can swim in a pool at home, but the ocean is a different story.

I thought the t-shirts were pretty funny .........funny, but sad. :upsidedow

That's horrible to see the effects of the oil spills on such a beautiful beach...luckily you guys were still able to find other fun things to do while on your vacation

It really is a sad thing to see, not only for the creatures of the sea, but to know how it has financially impacted the lives of people who depend on the tourist money to make their living.:sad2:

That's just awful about the beach :sad2: It's so sad that these repercussions are still being felt. I don't know what it'll take before someone takes an active cleaning role (cough bp).
Glad your family still managed to have fun together, though!!

Just the fact that it felt almost empty was one of the saddest parts, since that place should be crawling with people on vacation, especially during this time of year. :sad2:

We did try to do different things, like the mini-golf, go-cart racing, shopping, to entertain the kids.

Looks like you had a good trip to the beach, in spite of the oil. I hate what this has done to the beach communities. Would you recommend a trip to the beach to others? Are hotels and condos offering better prices/deals to get tourists to come?

We did have a good time, in spite of it not being like the normal visits to the beach we've had in previous years.

I would still encourage anyone wanting to take a trip to the beach to do so. I know a lot of younger kids don't even like getting in the ocean water anyway (too many waves of salt water splashing them in the face ), so that would not be a problem. The beaches were open for walking, sunning, playing in the sand. :)

I think you can really get a good deal on the condos in the area. :thumbsup2 I know that my mother called a few weeks before we went to check on the conditions. She was concerned about the smell of oil since two of the grandkids have asthma. The guy from the condo management company answered her questions, then asked her to hold. When he came back on the line, he confirmed her total due at check in, and then he knocked about $400-$500 off what she would owe at check-in. So I really think they want-need- people to come. That's what drives their local economy----fill those rooms with folks who will eat in their resturants, shop in their stores, etc.

Yes, it was sad to see it in person, too, Julia.

It is nice to spend time with extended family. :)

You're welcome, Jackie. :)

Reid reading to Meg solved two problems----his boredom, and no adult wanting to read aloud at that exact moment.

Thanks, Kathy! :)

Me too! I'm hoping that the relief wells being drilled will be the permanent solution to the leak. :thumbsup2

Thanks, Lisa. :) We did have a good time, even though it wasn't like normal visits to the beach.

Oh, yes----this fancy little shop called (pronounce like this---Tar-zshay---------) That translates to Target!

Hi Michelle!!! Soooo sorry I've been away for awhile! I wrote that I was going to catch up, and started to, but then never did until now! We went to WDW for a few days and you know how it is trying to catch up after vacation!! :)

Well, there's too much to comment on, but I've been enjoying your updates and pictures! I loved the picture of Reid hugging Pooh! And I LOVE the flashback of the girls and then the now pic. I have some pictures of my little girls walking hand-in-hand like that at Disney, too, and they are some of my favorites! :lovestruc Can't even think about when they'll be big girls like yours. :upsidedow

The EE story was just toooooo funny!!! :rotfl2: Oh my goodness, that poor lady!!! :rotfl2: And Kevin is a good sport to let her know you were about to go backwards! :rotfl2: Oh man! :rotfl2:

That story reminds me of one time we were on the Great Movie Ride and when we got to the Indiana Jones part with the snakes, the older lady behind us started screaming hysterically and jumped into the lap of the man next to her...who she was not with!!! :rotfl2: The man and his family were just laughing, but she didn't get off him! Her family that she was with were in tears laughing and taking pictures of her!! (which she was not too pleased about afterward) Guess she doesn't like snakes?? :confused3 :lmao:

Sorry you guys (and so many others) were not able to enjoy the beach this summer. That whole situation is just so very sad. :sad2: I truly hope something will be done about it - soon!

Oh, forgot to mention, we walked to Beach Club from Epcot for lunch one day on our latest trip and Ramon could not get over how you could just walk out of your room and be at Epcot, especially if you stay in the building at the end. (We've only stayed at BC one night as an add-on at the end of a trip but no parks, just played at SAB all day.) So I was telling him how a DISfriend and her family had stayed in that building at the end and that he's right, it is great!! :thumbsup2 Now he wants to stay there! We'll see....

Oh wow - that is very sad about the economy of the area - like it wasn't bad enough already!! :sad2: There is so much to do at the beach, it can still be a lot of fun without actually going into the water-as you proved here! I hope the businesses are able to recover.

It looks like a fun and relaxing time was had by all! Thank you for sharing!

Oh, that is so awful about the conditions of the beach :sad2: A friend of mine just went on a cruise that left out of New Orleans, she said it was completely booked, not an empty cabin to be had. Most of the people she talked to were from Louisiana, Mississippi & Alabama, they told her they normally go to the beach for their summer vacations but opted for the cruise instead because of the oil spill.

I hope the worst is over and they can get it all cleaned up soon!

Glad to hear you had a great time at the beach despite the effects of the oil spill. Seeing the water is so sad.

We took a weekend trip up to Misquimicut Beach in Rhode Island and it was great. I had read you were going to the beach at the same time and was thinking of you while I was looking at the water in RI. Such a difference.

Of course I forgot my camera though. It was nice to just chill out. We are hoping to return before school starts.

I can't believe you are going back to school so soon. It seems like it just ended.

Thanks! :) They will be big enough soon. Trust me, you just turn around and they're teenagers, getting ready to leave for college!

Kevin is a good sport................Of course, it didn't hurt that the woman was an attractive lady!

That's too funny about the snakes! That poor man-He probably got the shock of his life!

ALL RIGHT! :thumbsup2 Make him stick with it! Your girls would love the pool, and Ramon's right---Walking to Epcot is a great advantage to BC/YC.

It was--and you're welcome! :)

I believe that. There were probably half the number of people there that are usualy out at this time of year.

We took a weekend trip up to Misquimicut Beach in Rhode Island and it was great. I had read you were going to the beach at the same time and was thinking of you while I was looking at the water in RI. Such a difference.

You are right, that it is nice just to chill out. :cool2:

I can't believe it's time to go back either. We got out on May 20-- First day of school for my kids (and me) is Aug. 9. I'll start to get excited next week, and be ready to go by that Monday! :thumbsup2 PROMISE! ;)

Glad to hear the trip was nice...Love the shirts the kids got. I'm in my room as well. We have 2 work days next week, and the kids start on the 9th.

Michelle, I'm glad ya'll were able to have a good time at the Gulf. I get offers in my email from a few of the condos and they are REALLY cheap for it to be peak season.

You were right when you said the businesses NEED people to come down. The beaches are empty, and BP is pulling the clean up crews off the beaches(they say they aren't needed now because the well is capped) and laying them off. They have also laid off most of the workers they hired for the Vessels of Opportunity. BP calms the same about the oil out in the Gulf, so the VOO is not needed. The sad part about this is those working the VOO and cleaning up the beaches are a lot of the people who have lost their jobs because of the oil spill, like fishermen and shrimpers. The waters are still closed to fishing so these people are really going to be hurting.

Glad to hear the trip was nice...Love the shirts the kids got. I'm in my room as well. We have 2 work days next week, and the kids start on the 9th.

Thanks, Megan! :)

I think I've got most everything ready---just need to do one more bulletin board, and run copies of my class procedures/rules/policies for the first day. We have a day of inservice next Wednesday, and then like you, our kids will be there on the 9th----ALL DAY !!!!! :scared1:

Oh no! I hate to hear that about the beautiful beach! :sad1: But, it looks like you all had a wonderful time, regardless!

We had a wonderful time, Courtney! :)
