Disney Dining at Disneyland with DVC?

There is a Disneyland dining plan. It's apparently voucher-based. You purchase the vouchers which come in different dollar amounts (paying face value for them), and the packages also include specific vouchers for breakfast in the park (not good for a character meal and limited to a specific restaurant) and a separate voucher specifically for character meals. The more days you buy the plan for, the more character meal vouchers you get, so you'd better be interested in character meals. They have plans available for 3, 4, 5 or 6 days of dining. Because they have specific vouchers for breakfasts, they pretty much guarantee that you will be eating breakfast in a sit-down restaurant at least twice on your visit.

Apparently the vouchers are not redeemable at EVERY Disneyland restaurant (from what I have found, the Downtown Disney restaurants don't accept them, and I have read one review that says they're only good in the parks - you can't use them in the resorts). You can't use them for tips or alcohol, and no change is given.

It seems that this plan is only available to guests who purchase a "vacation package" from Walt Disney Travel, which would exclude DVC members who have used points to book Disneyland resorts.

The dining at Disneyland/DCA is not worth the plan. The only good deal in California is the AP. That buys you free parking and 15% off most stores and dining including the both parks, the Disney resorts and DTD. If you will be there for more than 3 days it may be worth purchasing. The discounted dining, store purchases & free parking could add up to a lot.

And don't forget the DVC discount on dining at DLR. It's 10% at almost all restaurants (table service and counter service) at both parks, all 3 hotels, and DTD. Most of the DVC discounts weren't listed on the member website last time I looked, but a portable perks booklet is available at any DVC kiosk.

Also, if you have a Disney Visa, you get 15% discount at certain park restaurants and stores, 2 free stroller rentals per day, and a Disney Visa cardholders character meet-n-greet with free picture at Disney's California Adventure.

Just make sure you have your Portable Perks book with you at ALL TIMES. We were there in July and I had to speak to managers on several occassions because they weren't familiar with the DVC discount. Maybe that's changed four months later, but I'd rather be safe than sorry. A couple of CMs even argued with me about it, but I luckily had the book, which they then took to a supervisor to show them.

The discount is definitely worth the hassle of carrying the book - I love that it's "worth" so much more at DLR than it is at WDW.
