Disney Dining Ages ... am I the only one who thinks this is nuts?

I thought the old prices were a bit high. 10 and up is a joke. I agree that if it were 12 and up people would try to cheat and have their young looking 14 year old get the child price, however that is not relavent. At any age break some people would try to cheat the system. 10 and up is really pushing things and I think Disney is going to find fewer families with kids aged 10 and up going.

Yeah, its nuts but it's their policy so I just plan accordingly. I have a 9 year old that will be 10 on our next trip so I haven't decided whether we'll be doing the dining plan yet but I'm leaning toward doing it anyway. It's still a bargain.

I'm going to order her whatever she wants from the adult's or child's menu (whichever she wants) and pay whatever they tell me to. I am not going to worry about what I cannot change. I'm on vacation.

She's an adult with the ticket too so now their both 10. I can certainly see why Disney chose to do it even if I may not like it. I'm still going and I'm still going to eat!

Although Disney's policy is that children over (10?) years old cannot order off the children's menu, I have never seen that enforced. Last year my then 12-year-old ordered off the children's menu on occasion and the waiters never had a problem with it. Even my 17-year-old nephew ordered from the child's menu once or twice. The waiters were always happy to accomodate us.

Enforced twice in a week on us at Disney last year in October. Once at Wilderness Lodge and once at LeCellier. These were for my 10 year old son....luckily my 9 year old dd still got to order off the childs menu.

If you are not doing the dining plan you shouldn't have any problem when you are eating at table serve non-buffet restaurants. If your boys want to share a meal they can and the last I heard a child over the age of 10 could order off the child's menu, unless that has changed. Or you can order meals that you all share, order your 10yo an appetizer for his meal, etc. Just inform the wait person what you are doing and limit the buffets.

When my 18yo DD and I went to WDW in Jan we did do the dining plan, but we knew that we couldn't each eat 2 credits worth of food each meal so we split many of the meals and there wasn't a problem, but I did have to explain and a couple restaurants and I did tip like we'd used 2 credits.

When i went to disney last time with the family i babysat, i still ordered off the kids menu sometimes (i am a horribly picky eater)..im 21 and had no problems...but i have seen them enforce it at other times, so i guess it depends on the waiter?
