Hey girls...that's right isn't it? There doesn't seem to be any testosterone around here lately! :earboy2:

I'm having a rough day. :sad2: Funny y'all were talking about old people. My mother lives with us,she'll be 84 in Jan...she was 40 when she had me.Anyway she has Alzheimers. She can still dress herself and go to the bathroom herself, make toast and warm coffee in the microwave and that's about it.:( Some days are more than I can handle and today was one.I think Joe being gone made me feel even worse. He eases some of the tension and pain for me.She drives me nuts most of the time. The woman who was my Mom is gone. When she talks about stuff it's from when she was a kid until about when she was in college..it's like me and my childhood never existed...it's so frustrating.I'm not sure she knows who Erich is all the time anymore either. One night last week she had a picture and asked Erich to find Aunt Tis (her nickname)...Erich said You're my GRANDMA not my Aunt. :guilty: I know I need to find myself a support group here in town but I never think of it until I've settled down after some incident. Her Dr. told me I needed to take care of myself, because Alzheimer care givers go through so much, that they suffer so much stress from the sitiutaion, the Alzheimer person doesn't because they haven't a clue.siiiiiiiiigh Thanks for letting me b*itch!

Re: DS - we are going to take something away but we're not sure what yet. He begged us to stay at Extended Care so he could spend more time with his friends. We don't need him to stay so we're thinking that's what we'll take. It's probably the one thing that will really matter to him. He was volunteering toys and such so I don't think that would be meaningful. I really don't understand his behavior. It's out of character for him.

Dawn, your PM box is full! You're so popular! :teeth:

Baloo, her Dr. is so right. There is nothing more important than caring for yourself in this situation. My grandmother had dimensia (she couldn't talk, etc. - supposedly a lesser Alzheimer's, but to us, it seemed worse!), and she did live with us for a while. I was in high school, but my brother was only in elementary school. It was SO HARD for my mom - she was also an only child, and shouldering that burden completely alone. I've never been through a more stressful period with her. You also need to learn that someday, you might have to come to terms with the fact that you can't do it all, and have your mom moved to a facility. I know it sounds awful putting it in print, and my mom dealt with huge guilt about it, but I think it ultimately ended up being the best thing. Facilities specifically for Alzheimer's patients I think are some of the best out there - I've had several relatives in them (it seems to run in my family - YIKES), and I've always been impressed with their care.

Many :grouphug: to you, and you'll be in my prayers.

That is very cute

Julia was so scared of Santa last year that when I told her if she didn't go see him - how would he know what she wanted that she told me she didn't any presents from Santa -

she could not bear the thought that Santa might actually come to our house and begged me not to let him in -

we finally decided it would be okay if Mrs. Clause brought the presents and wrote Santa a letter to see if that would Mrs. Clause would do that

but then people would ask Julia - are you excited for Christmas - is Santa coming to your house and she would look at them and say NOPE

Alyssa is the same way. She sat on his lap once, now she won't have anything to do with him. When we went to our party last weekend, I asked her the same thing: how will Santa know what you want? She looked at her brother and said "Nicholas, will you tell him for me?"

It's not looking too promising for Mickey and friends either. I keep asking her if she will give him and hug and her response is a definite NO. Now, the princesses or those without costumes, that might be different.

Just got this email. I think it is worth passing on, even though it's kinda long.

I BELIEVE IN SANTA CLAUS

I remember my first Christmas adventure with Grandma. I was just a kid.
I remember tearing across town on my bike to visit her on the way my big
sister dropped the bomb: "There is no Santa Claus," she
jeered. "Even dummies know that!"

My Grandma was not the gushy kind, never had been. I fled to her that day
because I knew she would be straight with me. I knew Grandma always told
the truth, and I knew that the truth always went down a
whole lot easier when swallowed with one of her "world-famous" cinnamon
buns. I knew they were world-famous, because Grandma said so. It had to
be true.

Grandma was home, and the buns were still warm. Between bites, I told her
everything. She was ready for me. "No Santa Claus?" she
snorted...."Ridiculous! Don't believe it. That rumor has been going
around for years, and it makes me mad, plain mad!! Now, put on your coat,
and let's go."

"Go? Go where, Grandma?" I asked. I hadn't even finished my second
world-famous cinnamon bun.

"Where" turned out to be Kerby's General Store, the one store in town
that had a little bit of just about everything. As we walked through its
doors, Grandma handed me ten dollars.

That was a bundle in those days. "Take this money," she said, "and buy
something for someone who needs it. I'll wait for you in the car." Then
she turned and walked out of Kerby's.

I was only eight years old. I'd often gone shopping with my mother,
but never had I shopped for anything all by myself.

The store seemed big and crowded, full of people scrambling to finish
their Christmas shopping. For a few moments I just stood there, confused,
clutching that ten-dollar bill, wondering what to buy, and
who on earth to buy it for. I thought of everybody I knew: my family, my
friends, my neighbors, the kids at school, the people who went to my
church.

I was just about thought out, when I suddenly thought of Bobby Decker. He
was a kid with bad breath and messy hair, and he sat right behind me in
Mrs. Pollock's grade-two class.

Bobby Decker didn't have a coat. I knew that because he never went out to
recess during the winter. His mother always wrote a note, telling the
teacher that he had a cough, but all we kids knew that
Bobby Decker didn't have a cough; he didn't have a good coat. I fingered
the ten-dollar bill with growing excitement. I would buy Bobby Decker a
coat!

I settled on a red corduroy one that had a hood to it. It looked real
warm, and he would like that.

"Is this a Christmas present for someone?" the lady behind the counter
asked kindly, as I laid my ten dollars down.

"Yes, ma'am," I replied shyly. "It's for Bobby."

The nice lady smiled at me, as I told her about how Bobby really needed a
good winter coat. I didn't get any change, but she put the coat in a bag,
smiled again, and wished me a Merry Christmas.

That evening, Grandma helped me wrap the coat (a little tag fell out of
the coat, and Grandma tucked it in her Bible) in Christmas paper and
ribbons and wrote, "To Bobby, From Santa Claus" on it. Grandma
said that Santa always insisted on secrecy. Then she drove me over to
Bobby Decker's house, explaining as we went that I was now and forever
officially, one of Santa's helpers.

Grandma parked down the street from Bobby's house, and she and I crept
noiselessly and hid in the bushes by his front walk. Then Grandma gave me
a nudge. "All right, Santa Claus," she whispered, "get going."

I took a deep breath, dashed for his front door, threw the present down
on his step, pounded his door and flew back to the safety of the bushes
and Grandma.

Together we waited breathlessly in the darkness for the front door to
open. Finally it did, and there stood Bobby.

Fifty years haven't dimmed the thrill of those moments spent shivering,
beside my Grandma, in Bobby Decker's bushes.

That night, I realized that those awful rumors about Santa Claus were
just what Grandma said they were: ridiculous. Santa was alive and well,
and we were on his team. I still have the Bible, with the coat
tag tucked inside: $19.95.

May you always have LOVE to share, HEALTH to spare and FRIENDS that
care...

And may you always believe in the magic of Santa Claus!
