CONGRATULATIONS!!!! Way to go Allysa you must be so excited! :cheer2: :cheer2:

Is it a special recipe? Will you share?[/QUOTE]

Here's my pumpkin bread recipe. I've been making it since I was 15, and it always goes over big!

4 C. sugar
1 C. oil
5 C. flour
4 tp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
1 Tbs. cinnamon
1 tsp. cloves
1 C. raisins
1 C. nuts (optional)

Mix together the sugar, pumpkin and oil. Add the flour, baking soda, salt, spices, rasins and nuts. Grease 3 large loaf pans and fill half full with batter. Bake for 1 hour at 325-350 degrees.

The loaves will raise during baking.

These are great served with cream cheese, or cream cheese frosting, but my kids like it best right out of the oven slathered with butter.

I hope you like it as much as my family does.

I just finished making two batches of pecan brittle and it is sooo good. I am making some to give as gifts. It takes like 10 minutes in the microwave. I love the easy stuff. :rotfl:

I've never made candy; too afraid of the thermometer. If it's easy and doable in the microwave, I'd love the recipe! Thanks.

ETA: I found the recipe. I can't wait to try it. DSis is the queen of Peanut Brittle. She makes about 25 batches every Christmas. I would love to try this and see how it compares. Thanks.

Hope it went well today and you get no snow tomorrow! :goodvibes

Thanks! The snow looks beautiful!

Rats. I thought it would have been cute w/ my Nicholas & Alyssa, and your Alyssa & Nicholas. Matthew is good too. It was in the running when we had Nicholas, but DH didn't care for it. It sounds like you are one of those who don't "cheat". We didn't either. It's nice to have the anticipation when the Dr. says "It's a _____ !"

Oops...sorry to mislead you, but we're big cheaters! :teeth: The names Alyssa and Matthew were in the running until we had an ultrasound at 20 weeks and we found out we were having a girl.

So we still have a boy's name, but we haven't picked another girl's name yet...

Amy :)

P.S. Thanks for all the continued congratulations! :)

I WANT SNOW!!!!!

Awesome snow pictures!!

Jennifer - I am sure you did great today!!

You all might inspire me to bake this year!!

Tammi - although I like the name Nicholas it appears that since Alyssa and Nick are in love with each other  that would be very confusing for her! :rotfl:

I also did not find out what we were having - I love the surprise of it!! I was SURE Julia was a boy - I actually didn't believe it when the doctor said "it's a girl!" then I was SURE Nick was a girl - :rotfl: that time I just cried - I couldn't believe that I had gotten so lucky to get my girl and boy!! not that it really mattered - just made it easier when DH decided he was done - although something tells me if my screen name was Julia & Anna's mom - I would be more likely making an addendum to it!! :rotfl:

P.S. Sorry Tammi, but if it's a boy, his name is Matthew. Now don't go gloating Marti! :rotfl: Matthew is Kevin's middle name and it would have been Alyssa's name if she had been a boy too. :teeth:

I have a Matthew, too! Now I know that I am very prejudiced, but he is quite a fine young man. :goodvibes

I'm 8 pages behind, so I need to go back and read. I need a little pixie dust tonight. My Dad drives a dump truck and was hit by a freight train earlier today. The details are sketchy, it appears that the train only hit the last foot of the truck. It is a blind intersection. He has absolutely no recollection of the accident. He remembers eating lunch then he remembers being in the ambulance. We don't think he lost consciousness as someone helped him get out of the truck which was rolled over on the drivers side. He apparently stood there looking at the truck and talking to 3 guys until the ambulance got there, but he doesn't remember any of it. They still have him in a neck brace as radiology hasn't cleared his neck yet and that is where he is having a lot of pain. He also has a small brain bleed. They said that it is the smallest you can have that would show up. They are keeping him overnight and will do another CAT scan in the morning. It appears he was very lucky. Hopefully tonight will go well. Best case scenerio he has severe whiplash. The freight train was 25 cars long and they were loaded with road salt. Dad was driving a 10 wheeler which was fully loaded with sand. The impact flipped the truck. It is probably a good thing that he can't remember. This happened sometime between 12:30 and 1 this afternoon. I got a call around 2 and have been at the hospital since. He is in good spirits now (I think the morphine helps) and has been talking and even laughing during the evening. The owner of the truck came in and they were cracking jokes for the whole visit. Hopefully the bleed won't get worse and all will be ok. We spent from 3 PM - 8 PM in the emergency room then he was moved to a room. I will go back up in the morning to check on him.

I think that I need to write a song about this: "Grandpa Got Runover By a Freight Train" I'm sure that he would think that it was funny if the kids sang it to him. :rotfl:

I have to keep a positive outlook. Thanks for listening.

Deb

I will keep all of you in my prayers! I'm so glad it wasn't worse!

Definitely write some lyrics and have your kids sing it to him. Laughter is the best medicine!

I thought you were going to say something along the lines of, "I get to post pictures of Amy's big belly!" :rotfl:

I'm very, very happy to be pregnant (other than the nausea and the exhaustion, of course  ), but just last month I finally fit into my size 8 jeans again! :teeth:

Is his name Matthew Koda? That's what Kevin wants. There has to be a better Disney boy's name out there... :rotfl:

Just wanted to let you all know - I scheduled an audition for Julia in the American Girl Fashion Show - my big concern is that they want girls who wear a 6X and Julia wears a 5/6 - they said to audition anyway b/c you never know how the AG sizes run

Of course if she is chosen, b/c it is a fundraiser for a foundtion - there is a $120 fee to model but it does include raffle tickets, a party, her ticket for the show (she gets to watch the first part), a photoshoot and a gift -

and of course - then they want you to sell raffle tickets for the show! :rotfl: But it is not a requirement -

so we will see what happens!!

you knew there had to a thread on this already - didn't you!!
