I thought something must have gone wrong when I logged on this morning and only found 17 e-mails :rotfl: 10-12 hours down would explain it :rolleyes1

Glynis, if you're coming to London or the southeast we could have a mini DIS-meet! Are you going to sneak in a trip to DLP while you're this side of the Atlantic? Its about 3 hours on the Eurostar from London.

Hi there,
I started reading the beginning of this thread and I am in love with the tie dye mickey shirts. I scanned through about 15 pages of the thread looking for someone to post pictures of the process. I just can't figure out how to do the folding. Has pictures of the process been posted? If it has I'll keep looking. Thanks

Don't wash the shirt again... there really is no need and you don't want anything to happen to it in the washer. After your trip when its time to wash them, do so inside out with no bleach or fabric softner. Otherwise I think it lifts the transfer off the shirt.

Have a great time -- so wish it was us going again! I still have the post Disney blues!

Thank you. I was hoping this was the answer I would get. Adding wasing shirts AGAIN to my list of thing to do in 4 day s could throw me over the stress edge.

First you will need the dye. I got a kit at Michaels that came with the instructions, dye, squirt bottles, soda ash, gloves, and rubber bands. Get 100% cotton shirts. That is very important so that you get vibrant colors. Do not use Rit Dye – you will not get vibrant colors!

Take the shirt and draw a mickey head in pencil, on the shirt. I made a pattern on papper first and then traced along the edge. You will then "sew" the pattern. Use a needle and thread. I got a waxed thread at Michaels to make sure it didn't take up the dye. Sew a 1/4" - 1/2" basting stitch along the pencil line. A basting stitch is a very simple stitch that goes up & down through the fabric. Only go through the front of the shirt if that is where you want the mickey to be. If you want it on front and back. Do each side separtely. After stitching along the complete line, knot it, and pull it tight, so the fabric gathers in a bunch. Make sure the inside of the Mickey is poking outward. Pleat the rest of the fabric, so that you have a long snake like tube. The more careful you are with pleating the fabric along the length of the shirt, the better the final result. Go easy, and take your time. Wrap a rubber band around the threaded bunch. The tighter the tie, the more defined the outline of the mickey will be. Place remaining rubber bands in 1"-2" intervals along the rest of the shirt. It is a little hard to explain, but when you are done you will have a long snake. One end is the mickey on front of shirt and the other end it the back mickey. Through the middle is the rest of shirt (arms, neck etc.).

Then follow the instructions in the kit for preparing and dying shirts. The squirt bottles make it possible to get the specific color where you want it.

Now there are a couple of great ideas. My father is a semi-professional tour guide who really only puts tours together, and then finds professional guides in all the cities he visits. He takes a major trip each March. 2006, it's Greece and Turkey, 2007 it's England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales. Should be fun!

I would love to do DLP, but don't know if it's in DH's cards. I'm hard pressed to get him to go to the one in our neck of the woods. I've put a bug in his ear about WDW, and he's "thinking" about it, so we'll see. I hope one day to get him as converted as I am.

Welcome home. Hope you all had a great time. Post some pics whenever you get settled in.

Welcome back Brendita....... just as I'm getting ready to leave! Hope ya had a great time- and we DEFINETLY want to see those pics!

Brendita! You came back! I thought you may stay LOL!

Let us know how it went, we want pics!!!

I just got back from Walmart. For anyone looking for long sleeved tees, they have 100% cotton ones at Walmart for just under 8 dollars. They also have them for kids too. I think they were $5. I bought mine in white but they had a variety of colors. They were mens/boys, so no pinks, etc. But they are nice quality, very soft.

So my shirts are in the wash and I am going to print out my Christmas design and get to trimming. I also got my tye-dye kit. Then I will print out various size Mickey head patterns and stitch the shirts. Starting to get into full-blown t-shirt making mode now. I will post pictures when I get some things completed.

Brendita - so glad you had a good trip. Looking forward to hearing/seeing all about it.

I looked at the 15 day forecast through 11/21 and the highs were in the 80's with lows in the 60's. I think I'm going to make all short sleeve T's and take some long sleeve stuff that we can layer underneath.

I've got to go get a few more white shirts and a new color cartridge, and then I'm ready to make mine too. Yippee! It's getting close now.

Thank you so much for the link to the pics of the mickey tie dye shirt. That makes it much clearer. Now I just have to go to Michaels tomorrow. Wish me luck. This will make a great Christmas gift for our group of 12 heading down in Feb.

I know it is. How exciting! I am so anxious for you to be leaving on your trip, because I know that we are just a few weeks after you all.

I got long sleeved ones that I am doing for MVMCP. The rest of the shirts are going to be short, I believe, as long as the weather stays mild.

Welcome home Brendita, we missed you. Hope you had a wonderful time.

Brendita - WELCOME HOME! I hope you had an amazing time. :Pinkbounc

Tammi - I got those long-sleeved T shirts at Walmart too. Got the white ones and the dark rusty wine ones. Now I have to print my designs and then find that darned iron... :rotfl:

Just looked at the post number... I am predicting a LONG night of posting and bantering here from the DDAs.

Everyone got their Diet Coke/Pepsi/Mountain Dew? :jumping1: :jumping1: :jumping1: :jumping1:
