Disney Dayz @disneystore.com

I gather that some of you are not happy about Dizney Days, but I gotta tell you, our sales were great last week. Speaking as a CM, I think that it is a great promotion. People will either buy it with the specials or not buy it at all, and no more guests who only come in looking for the 50% sale and complain that it isn't 75% yet. I hope that it lasts a long long time. The usual complaints were still there (the ones that I happen to agree with): no adults, no infants, no collectibles... but the week went very well and most guests bought something. I guess that all the bitter people frequent this board. Too bad, cause there are lot of happy guests out there, and alot of happy CMs, too.

Ouch Kaelyn
But I am not bitter and agree with the other posters. We are not looking for something for nothing but this is advertised as being something special. Goofy weekend ( or whatever it was called) said 15% off everything including sales- Well there wasn't a single sale item in the store.
The pants I bought my girls the week before at 60% off were back up to regular price.

:( Geeze, im not a bitter person either:( I didnt say id never shop there again, I love to shop and love to find bargains, when I do, it allows for me to buy much more and spend more money, therefore, doing my part to keep my local DS in business.

Im a very happy and frequent shopper to both the DS and DS online.

The sales I find allow my kids to have the biggest Disney wardrobe ive ever seen. Hmmmmm looks like consumer satisfaction, belief in quality products, love of Disney, and a walking advertisement.

We do appreciate the people who love Disney, wether they are big spenders or not, but this something that has frustrated me for long time.
It used to be that Disney had three big sales a year, and the rest of the year there would be a rack of clearance in the back most of the time, but that was it. Then they started trending towards something always being on sale to eventually most things being on sale. We basically trained our guest to wait for the sale. Now everybody does because everyone knows that it will eventually be cheaper.
With the start of the Disney Dayz program, there will be very little "traditional" sale. Yes, that meant that things that were on sale on Sunday did go back to full price on Monday, but no sale lasts forever - excpet with Disney and that is now thankfully a thing of the past. There will be growing pains for both the guests and the cast as we readjust to this. My store did have two or three racks of things items that were still on clearance - plus the 15% off for Goofy weekend.
This ties into other issues as well. People often wonder why we don't carry adult clothing anymore. The reason is simple: people didn't buy it until it was 50% off or more. Maybe people felt it was too expensive and maybe they didn't, but only a fool will pay full price for somthing they know they can get on sale in a few weeks. Even CMs play that game. Again, Disney conditioned its guests to wait forcing them to put things on sale and reinforcing the mindet to wait in its guests.

The other thing that frustrates me about these issues on these boards is that everyone seems to feed off of everyone else's anger and frustration. We do it over on the CM board, too. We have to be careful not to let ourselves get too negative about changes to policy and about the reaction of guests both in the stores and here on the boards. It is like a snowball effect. Case in point: remember the fiasco over the suprise and short-lived sale of DVDs last fall.

I tend to agree with Kaelyn. Once we have reconditioned the guests to not wait until things are 50=75% offf in the stores, perhaps we can get back the items that the guests so often complain about us not carrying... like adult clothes, infant clothes, collectibles, etc.

I am truly sorry about the disappointment, but this is probably the wisest thing that Disney has done in a while. When I started working at TDS, we only had the 2 or 3 sales a year... the merchandise was nice, and the quality was great... and guess what? We sold it, too! Then they started conditioning everyone to wait for sales, and because of it, the quality went down. Our quality is now going back up, so it stands to reason that the focus should, too~!

Sorry, if I have stepped on anyone's toes... but I am fervently looking forward to the day that we can go back to quality merchandise and when a sale REALLY meant something.

I see the DisneyDays promotion as just another way for the Company to continue their repression of use and benefit of the Disney Club.

I felt that, in general, Disney continues to promote it's latest offerings as something really special (i.e. The Disney Visa) and they continue to underwhelm the faithful.

and finally, I am taken back by the attitude of Disney Store CM's.

What exactly takes you aback? That the CMs are positive about this, hoping that it will change the way guests treat them? That they are hoping merchandise quality will go up? That maybe TDS will see some of the things it used to carry before it was no longer profitable to do so? That a CM told you that sales don't last forever?

Or do you lose the magic knowing that CMs have opinions?

I also had a problem with the CM's at our local Disney Store. Every time I would go in there they were rude, unhelpful and more interested in talking about where their next DVC vacation was going to be with eachother.

I posted about my problem on this board.

I was encouraged to give them another chance after the many I had already given.

I did, and everything is great. The same CM is always working when I go in there and is very friendly, always ask my kids how they are doing, etc. I think any bad employee will eventually be let go just like at any other place.

Don't be put off if you have had a bad experience.

I was in our local store before this new DisneyDaze promotion started and bought quite a few things for 50% off-the things that I bought are now at regular price but oh well. I feel lucky that I was able to get what I got. I bought quite a few things for birthdays, Christmas and didn't pay full price for anything.

I'm sure Disney will see how this current promotion goes. If it is not successful they will get rid of it.

Maleficent1959 - you rock the house!!!!!!:p

floridafam - you are right on too. I have worked in retail for many years, and people have begun to accept things on "sale" instead of full price. Someone made a point about the grocery store having some stuff on special or sale for a week only. If it is not on sale, does it stop you from buying it? Ok, maybe comparing food to toys & stuff is disproportionate, but you get what i am trying to say. Macy's has their sale one Wednesday per month (plus a preview day Tuesday) in additon to any other sales (ie Labor day, etc). Strawbridge's (a local Phila. dept store owned by the same comapny as Hechts) has a "Clover Day" one weekend every month. Bloomingdale's has a program similar to Macy's (I should know, I used to work there).

If this program doesn't work, eventually, it will be gone.

Well I have to say that I like the Disney Dayz promotion, but like others here, I was very disappointed to see that all of the sale merchandise was gone from the online store. I often bought from the sale merchandise also (however I bought regular price merchandise too!) I can understand some frustration from both the CMs and the guests here, because I am not only a CM, but also a guest. I miss the days of adult merchandise, infant clothing, collectibles and the like, but I make the best of what is now offered. I don't buy near as much from the stores as I used to (my husband sure is glad :teeth: ) but I'm still a loyal shopper because I am a Disney fanatic. I am a huge collector and just because I can't get the merchandise in the stores any longer it isn't going to prevent me from collecting.

(I'm not pointing any fingers here, this is just in general)
Come on everyone--give the Cast Members a break, we are having to deal with the company making all of the changes (sometimes daily). We have to deal with the parents who bring the kids into the stores and let them run around and trash it. We have to deal with the short staffing. It can be tough to have that "Disney Smile" for every guest that comes into the stores. I can't speak for every cast member, but I do my best to remain cheery to everyone (even when I want to wring someones neck for not paying attention to what their kid is doing, or because they are unfolding EVERY t-shirt that is on a table--even though they can see me folding them, etc.)

Give Disney Dayz a chance. Let's see how it works out. No, you cannot combine the Disney Club discount with most of these offers, but hey--some of these are GREAT deals!!

Did any of this make any sense? I sure hope so because I feel like I'm rambling on and on and on... ;)

When reading posts of this nature, you try and think of times you have shopped in a store and not had stellar service, or a clerk who just doesn't care, but for the most part, I would challange ANYONE who doesn't work in retail/with the public on a daily basis, to go to a store and VOLUNTEER to work a shift and see just why sometimes these people are a little "out of sorts". Ever have a bad day?? where YOU weren't so nice to a clerk in a store because something they said was a store policy didn't suit you???? well think how the clerk on the receiving end feels, and perhaps you'll see why they have a slight attitude on any given day. Working with/for the public for the most part is a THANKLESS job...and I'm not saying everyone doesn't appreciate a very helpful retail clerk, but for the most part, they are treated like second class citizens when they stand behind a counter....and I'm speaking from experience. Poster Sue Ellen summed it all up rather nicely and I can tell you, her statements on how people act when they go into a store is right on!

I also would like to add that it is likely that DisneyDaze will evolve and change, as they see what is most popular and effective with sales. For example, I would encourage more of you to try the Weds sales. With this last week, 5-8 items were sold at $5 all day, and 3 more expensive items were sold for $5 per $25/sale. This was HUGE, as one of the items sold for $5 was a $24.50 talking princess doll. This drove sales. The free magic towels didn't really go over as well!

Just got back from "Wish Wednesday" at Disney Store in Raleigh, NC.

This is what I got for $5 each:

1. Large stuffed Simba retail $16.50
2. 4 Princess shirts retail $16.50
3. 2 Princess pajama holders retail $19.50
4. Stuffed Marie birthday jewel animal retail $12.50

They had a bunch of other things as well for $5.

I request that this thread return to its original intent:

To inform readers of the daily promotions at TDSs.

People can then do with the information what they will. If they choose to take advantage of the info - great. If they choose to wait for more "traditional sales" and being able to use their soon-to-be-gone DC discount - that is fine too.

But this thread will NOT turn into CMs snipping at Guests or visa versa.

Thank You!

(Thank you for today's info unfreshdiva1! :) )

My store had buy 2 easter gifts get 1 free. Not even a marginal deal IMHO.

Just returned from DS with several $5.00 items. Now you had to spend at least $25.00 to start buying the $5.00 items but once you spent the $25.00 you could buy as many of the $5.00 items as you wanted. I point that out b/c I did not realize this until I went up to check out and had already spent over $25.00 on other things and had only thought I was entitled to one $5.00 item. So this was a pleasant surprise! The items that were $5.00 were very nice. I got DD several cute princess shirts, a pack of underwear - 3 in a set, and a pj crown pillow holder. Plus I was able to use a $10.00 off coupon from the Piglet's Big Movie promotion plus DC discount. So that was cool!

I was impressed with how many things were on the $5.00 sale.
This is what I remember:

Large stuffed animials of Simba, Baloo, Stitch
Stuffed Marie dressed in Princess costume
Tiny princess and pony playsets
3 pairs of underwear packs, boys and girls
pillow and crown pj holders
soft princess horse pj holders
variety of princess shirts

They probably had other more "boy" things too, but DD and I didn't look thouroughly over there.

I thought the Easter deal over the weekend was pretty fair. You bought 2 Easter items, got 15% off and got another item for free. I ended up doing pretty well with that deal. 2 Thumper baskets less 15% off and the 3rd for free.

Can anyone describe the pj holders to me? I don't think I've ever seen them. Thanks.
