Hi Lisa, Sorry I went missing. One day I went to turn my laptop on and nothing. I ended taking it in and lost it for three weeks. Add that to being behind to begin with, I have a lot of dis reading to do.
Sounds like things slowed downed at home. I know John is back to work. I guess I missed how his dad is doing. I send a prayer up for you and your family, even when I don't know how things are going.
Glad to hear of the big group for your next trip. I too can't wait to see your dresses.
Way to much to comment on. I will say that yes I knew you would be eating at Planet Pizza. Glad to hear a good review. I understand the stairs phobia. I have an escalator phobia. In my defense I fell down them several times as a kid due to my hip giving out.
I loved reading your HS day. I keep saying I never do HS or AK enough time. I was going to fix that with my two week trip that got canceled. By the time I get back they are going to be different. Oh well, can't miss what you never had. I know it is sad that so much is closing, but I can't wait to see what replaces it. I to am not that into SW, but I am not upset with a SW section.

I'm sure I am behind more than one update, but I'm slowly getting back into the DIS after being away.

Sorry you did not love the Star Wars dinner. We did the breakfast and it was cute, but I felt it was sort of over priced. So yeah - been there, done that. Plus, I think Disney food in general has declined. It used to be good but now its just average. Denny was telling me that they changed vendors and now use Aramark. I don't know if this is true or not, but I know I am planning more off site meals in the future. I especially found this to be true on the cruise. Other than Palo and the food on Serenity Bay, everything else was just OK and it has something in it that bloats the heck out of you. Sorry for the rant.

Finally had a chance to come back and catch up after my trip. I'm only going to comment on the last post though because my memory isn't what it used to be.

What a bummer that the special meal was not what you hoped it would be. I've only eaten at H&V one time and won't be going back either. The food just wasn't that good. We kind of stumbled in there a few years ago because it was the only restaurant that was seating without ADRs. We had a group of 8 adults and none of us knew who the characters were as they were all from Disney Jr.

I don't know her outfit does nothing for me but I do find the show entertaining. LOL.

I love the animation building. Love drawing even though I am terrible at it.

The churro looks good. I have never had one.

I know all about being fat being I was 363 lbs before surgery and would not sit on a bus because I felt like I was taking up 2 seats so I stood. I would walk sideways passing people (still do) because of the room issue but obviously these people just did not care. I have gone to restaurants and walked out just looking at their chairs and thinking I would break it and fall down but obviously they did not care and glad John said something. it is fatties like that who give us other fatties a bad name.

Loved the early Larry the Cable Guy! The guy was pretty darn rude and it had nothing to do with his size. He was just a booty!

That's too bad that the special (surprise) character meal did not turn out better for you. It is a shame that you had to deal with the rude family next to you.

On the positive side, they are going to be eating well in New Guinea tonight!

I haven't read other reviews of this meal, but I thought it was such a great idea. Disney needs more character meals to appeal to kids who aren't into the princesses. My boys would have loved a meal with the Star Wars Disney characters.

Oh yeah, New Guinea pygmies were eating good the night that I wrote the installment, that's for sure.

Dee, I am with you on character meals for boys. You'd think that there would be more. I know that Hunter was really too old for this meal but I still wanted to do it because it was unique.

Awww, Scott, I am so sorry that you have those memories. My niece has been large all of her life and had weight loss surgery several years ago. She was like my little sister and stayed with me as much as she did at my sister's house. I know the struggles that she had (and still does) because of her weight. I certainly wasn't trying to say that this family's size ruined our meal. It was their stupid rudeness!

I'm surprised that John and I were able to keep it together considering how rude the people next to us were. The dad acted like he was some famous director and had not a single ounce of consideration for those around him.

Wow - maybe it's something about H&V. We ate there once. Probably never will again because a) the seating is just too dern close together & a huge, extended, multigenerational family who didn't do a thing about teaching their children polite public manners. That's what we remember. Don't ask me about the food because...bad kids, negligent parents (and aunties and uncles and great aunties and Grandmas and Grandpas) completely block the memory.

I agree about the seating. We felt smooshed in the whole time. I don't understand why people can't keep their children in line and teach them some manners. Makes me mad!

Oh my...he does have a set of Chesticles doesn't he? I can see how that could make the meal less pleasant.
The characters do look so cute though at least. And I am sure Hunter was happy with his surprise.

He definitely had some chesticles going on. This is one of those meals that we can now mark off of our list.

We have never tried Hollywood & Vine. I can honestly say that it isn't even on our "do it sometime" list. Sorry you had such stinky table neighbors. What a pain.

And yes, if you ever feel the call of the islands, there will always be room!

If I were you, I'd keep Hollywood and Vine off any sort of list except for a "banned restaurant" list.

Sorry that H&V wasn't very good. We have an ADR there in December and I kinda think I should change it, but nothing else is available right now. I liked it in 2008 but I see far more bad reviews than good lately. I'm sure the rude couple next to you really didn't help your experience either!

I didn't care for the food at all. The only saving grace was the soup.

Well despite the fact of you guys not loving it, I still enjoyed reading all about it! Your nexttable neighbours sound like the absolute worst, especially that guy with the microwave camera directing the characters. Who does that!?
Sorry to hear your meal wasn't better, but like you said, at least you tried! And the pics with the characters are cute!

The neighbors made what could have been a so-so meal into a no-no meal. It will be a long time before we go back to Hollywood & Vine.

Oh dear. That does not sound pleasant. At all.
I don't know what irked me more, how rude those guests were to you or to the characters. Like Minnie and Mickey really wanted to be barked directions over and over when there were other families to meet. Yeesh.

And I can't believe they never even apologized for bumping into you guys. I'll admit, my in-laws are bigger folks. And whenever they come upon a situation like that, the very first thing my father in-law would do would be to turn to the table next to him and, "I'm sorry in advance if my big butt hits your table. If I do it too much just yell, 'Old man, move!'"
Most people are at least courteous in that respect and try to apologize in advance.


I'm sorry the whole meal wasn't anything to write home about. But, like you said, now you've been there and done that. Something to cross off the Disney Bucket List and never look back.

I have many many members of my family who are large people (they like to call themselves "big boned") and they are like your in-laws, they know it and they try their best to keep out of folks way. But, if they absolutely can't, then at least they apologize.

Thank you! We had not a single trick-or-treater come to our house. We live at a dead end and never have any.

What the world was with Big Grumpy Pants??? That pic of him waving his arm in the air is too funny. And to ask to retake the pic?? I have felt like that before but I would never ask again... I know they have to get to everyone.

I would have to agree about H and V's food though.... We did it in 2012, skipped it last year but we are doing it again this year.. Only because of the updated characters that our youngest will love. The food was definititely not something to write home about....

The guy was waaaaaay to over the top with the characters and needed to just keep him behind in his seat.

If I had little ones, I would probably book Hollywood & Vine again but I don't so I won't.

How unfortunate to be sat next to such rude people.

See, we gave oldest DD a choice for her senior year trip in 2017...WDW during Star Wars Weekends or another cruise. I am beginning to think I am VERY glad she chose the cruise. We take vacations in October, because we hate the summer heat and we hate the crowds. So, while SWW would be fun for my SW geek family...I am thinking ultimately we would have just been miserable and cranky the whole time. And one does NOT spend so much $$$ to go to Disney just to be miserable and cranky!

Um...yes, after seeing the photo of your nexttable neighbor, chesticles is a suitable work. EWWWWW!!!

You really must do a lot of research before delving into a SWW trip. It does get really crowded and some of the people go all out!

Things are finally slowing down, thank goodness. His dad is doing a lot better. He's lost some weight and he's kinda sorta sticking to his diet. We appreciate all of the prayers!

We were looking through menus for our next trip and it seems that every restaurant serves the same thing but with just a little something different. It's sad.

You already know that we weren't fans of the food on the Dream. I guess that I set my expectations way too high.

Morning! Another life update: We went to Canton, Texas on Saturday sans Hunter who was doing some youth volunteer work at church. It takes us about 4 hours to get there and then we spent 7 hours walking from one end to the other and we still missed a lot of things. Ya'll know me and my bargain hunting so I am sure that it will come as no surprise that I bought five large Christmas gifts for just $80. Yep, you read that right. Gotta wheel and deal with purveyors of flea market/crafty items.

On our way home, we also stopped at Collin's Street Bakery which is world famous and has been on the program The Best Thing I Ever Ate. The stop was supposed to be for the purpose of buying John and Mama a fruitcake but that didn't happen because the smallest one was $18.95 and it was the size of a small saucer. The large ones were over $30.00. We got fresh baked cookies and cinnamon raisin bread instead.

John's been having some medical issues and we aren't really sure what's up because they are new symptoms. He's having some tingling and numbness of his head followed by a little facial twitching. I have a call into the neurologist but he's out of town this week. We already have a check-up appointment scheduled for the 14th but had hoped to talk to them before then. No such luck so far. We are praying that it's nothing serious and these symptoms will go away.


I don't think that I mentioned this before but our new microwave/vent-a-hood went out a month ago. GE sent someone out to look at it the Friday after it went out and they ordered parts. Well, two weeks went by and no word from them. I finally got a consumer advocate with GE involved and the parts are on the way so hopefully we'll get it fixed soon. They did send us a $50 check so that we could go buy a cheap microwave in the meantime. It's funny how you never realize how much you use something until it's non-functional.

We have plans to visit Lacey and Jesse over the Thanksgiving weekend and I've been keeping an eye on on the weather. This past weekend, they got so much snow that some of the roads were closed. Of course, those are the roads that we wanted to take to go to the top of the mountains. I guess that I'll have to just keep watching the weather and adjust our plans accordingly. We can always just spend our time in Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg and not in the park.

On the Disney front, Lacey and I have been tweaking our plans and our restaurant/dining possibilities. I finally made John sit down and give me options on what he wanted to do and where he wanted to eat before Lacey and Jesse arrive. He hates going over the menus but it's a necessary evil and I tempted him with a slice of cheesecake to eat while reading the menus.

I hope that you all had a happy Halloween! We didn't do a thing besides sit on our behinds and wait for the doorbell to ring. It didn't! Not a surprise since nobody ever comes down our dark dead end driveway.

Anyway, I am working on an update and my goal is to get at least two posted before the end of the week. Ya'll behave yourselves until I get back!

That guy’s giving me the evil snake eye!

After a somewhat disappointing dinner at Hollywood & Vine, we knew that we had to get a move-on or we’d miss Fantasmic. As it were, we were already a little later than we wanted to be. We don’t like to wait in that super long line before the show starts (as if anybody does ) so we try to get there a short time after they start letting guests into the theater. When we got to the entrance, people were still walking in but it wasn’t jam packed, shoulder to shoulder folks.

As you can see from this picture, the sky was getting dark meaning it wouldn’t be long until the show began:



The castmembers were waving the guests on in and when we got to the middle, a castmember asked if it were just the three of us and if so, there were some seats pretty close to the front if we wanted to go down. Of course, we said yes and she let us in. The others behind us? She pointed them further down. Sweet! Well, sweet for us. Not sweet for the people behind us.

The view from our seats was really good. Almost straight in the middle of the mountain and not far from the bottom. We noticed a couple sitting behind us that were wearing Louisiana Tech shirts and we chatted with them a minute since they were almost neighbors (Tech is just 30 minutes from our house). They had two adorable children who were more than happy to share stories of their day in the park.

Soon, there was an announcement that the show would be beginning soon and the pre-show entertainment was introduced. I say pre-show entertainment but it was really two guys who were semi-funny who played games with people in the audience. Hey, I ain’t knockin’ having any pre-show entertainment ‘cause, seriously, it does getting boring just sitting there waiting on the show to begin. At least these guys kept us from thinking about the fact that we were sitting on metal benches with no backs.

Once the show began, I took some pictures but decided not to stress out about getting “good ones” (as if I have ever taken a “good” picture during Fantasmic) but rather just enjoy the show.

Love love love Fantasmic! In all of our trips to Walt Disney World, we have missed it once and that’s because we thought that it had been rained out.

We waited for most of the crowds to filter out of the theater before we walked down the hill and towards the front of the park. Despite my freaking out over the Pizza Planet stairs, running into the fake non-English speaking family, the guy with the chesticles and a blah dinner, the day had a been a great one. The bus to the resort came quickly and we hit the sack shortly after getting back to our room.

Even though we have been to Disney World twenty times, there are still things that we haven’t experienced and I try to work at least one “new to us” thing each trip. Friday, May 30th, was a day that we were excited about because it included not one but two things that we had never done while at Walt Disney World.

We wanted to get an early start this morning so that we could beat the crowds and, for once, everybody was cooperating in getting up and at 'em. I double checked our bag to make sure that we had everything and we were off to the bus stop. Lots of park buses came and went and then along came our bus about 10 minutes after we arrived at the stop. Most of the time, I check the clock at the front of the bus so that I can see how long it takes to get from point A to point B but if I did it this trip, then I totally forgot the travel time. I can tell you this, though, it didn’t take long to reach our destination.

Where were we going to spend the majority of our day? At Blizzard Beach! We had been to Typhoon Lagoon before but never Blizzard Beach. This was a first for us and we were ready to check everything out. Our first order of business was to rent a locker. I wore my swimsuit under my t-shirt and shorts and the guys wore their tanks but they had to change into their swim trunks. While they were changing, I put our things in the locker and pulled out what we would need to take with us. Once the guys got back, we put their shorts into the locker and off we went.

Up ahead, we could see the chair lifts going up the mountain:





The guys had a fun time teasing me about my fear of heights and John said that he was going to get me on the lifts if he had to take me kicking and screaming. That’s when I told him “Boy, I’ll karate chop your neck with this flip flop!” if you even look like you’re going to try.

We found a semi-secluded spot for our things and we only used one of the lounge chairs because we figured that we wouldn’t be spending a ton of time there. We walked underneath the chair lifts:




Our first ride for the day would be the family raft ride. We climbed the steps to the rafts and when we got to the top, it said that you had to have at least four in a raft. Drats! The castmember told us to stand to the side because they were sure that someone would come along that also needed extra members. Sure enough, along came a mother and son. The five of us got into the raft and down we went. Holy crapola! The water was sooooo cold! I’m talking as cold as a witch’s ti**y cold! Sweet Mother of Pearl! What a way to start out our day!

I’m looking at my pictures and I’m not sure but I believe that I took these when making the climb up to the family raft ride:





We were shivering as we walked to our things. You know, our things that we left on the lounger that we thought we would only visit one or two times. Little did we know. There was a park sign nearby and I figured out how to get to the body slides. Problem was, neither of the guys wanted to do it yet. Hunter was a little apprehensive and John always worries about whether or not he should do such things. Usually, I will give something a try first and then let him know if I think it’s safe for him to go.

Even though I’m a big old baby when it comes to heights, I really wanted to go on the body slide. John said that he’d wait for me on the lounger and Hunter came along to take photographic evidence of my stupidity. I mean, me going down.

I climbed all the way up the steps ‘cause I wasn’t getting on those dangling chairs of death. I guess I felt it would be better to fall down a mountain of concrete? As I was going up, I was saying to myself “You have got to start working out again.” “You are getting old.” “One more step, just one more step and you’ll be there.”

I reached the landing and the entrance to the body slide (not the tallest, longest one) but the other one and walked towards the end of the line. My phobia of heights kicked in when I saw that I’d be standing near an edge and I could see wayyyyy off in the distance. I kept myself in check by looking down at my feet. Oh pretty painted toenails. Oh look how narrow my feet are. Oh look at how they shuffle along when I move up with the line. Oh, it’s almost my turn!

So...before I move forward with this update, let me just get something out of the way right now. If you’ve read my reports before, you know that my reports are no holds barred. I post pictures of everything. Pictures of John’s broken toe. Pictures of me looking like Hannibal Lector. Pictures of us dancing like dang fools. Well, now I’m going to post pictures of me in all of my lily white skinned glory. In a bathing suit that’s really not “in fashion” but rather one that I knew would not give me a big old wedgie or slip off. No real excuse for either one of those except that I’ve never been able to get a tan and I was not blessed with chesticles like our nexttable neighbor from the night before. Like I said, I post pictures of pretty much everything in my reports. Feel free to just scroll on down if you’d like. Movin’ on.

It was my turn to take a seat, hold onto the bar, wait for the green light and then zoom down the slide with nothing between me and the concrete besides the water. It felt like my whole body lifted into the air before I came to a stop near the end of the slide. It was fun! With a capital f. I mean it was Fun with a capital F. I gracefully stood up and exited the area so that the next person could come down.





I assured Hunter that the slide was something that he’d like and I was also sure that John would be able to handle it with no problems. We found John lying back on the lounger “resting his eyes” and I let him know that he should go on the slide too. We all trekked up the steps to the top of the mountain with me admonishing myself again for being out of shape. I wanted to go first so that I wouldn’t have to stand at the top for long and let my phobia get outta control.

My second time down the slide was even more fun that the first because I wasn’t nervous about whether or not I’d like it. I had the camera in my hand when I came down so I was able to take pictures of the guys during their slides.

How’d they like it? They enjoyed it as much as I did and we all went back up for another turn. The line was longer by the time we looped back around and we could tell that it was getting a little more crowded so we said that we’d do the slide this time and then venture off to other parts of the park.
