I was just listening to DIS-Unplugged Podcast. (10/13/07). It's rumored that Disney would like to have a cruise to Alaska starting in 2009! :cool1: Also, the names of the two new cruise ships may be "Wishes" and "Dreams". :goodvibes Also, there was a rumor of a future cruise to Hong Kong.:woohoo: I hope these rumors become true!

Only if it would start next year, since we have a cruise for Alaska planned for next summer.

I've never been on a cruise (primarily because I don't like being that far out on water), but I've always said I would like to take a cruise to Alaska someday. This might be a good fit and something to try! :cool1:

OH! That would be great! I have always wanted to go on a cruise to Alaska and what better way than the Disney way? :)

I'm more frequently on the DIS DCL Forum. I can tell you that there have been SO many threads started about speculation of DCL going to Alaska after the two new ships come out in 2011 and 2012.

There are many strong arguments about DCL not going there as well as that being a potential destination. There's even been a rumor started that the reason the Disney Magic is going to be in dry dock in 2008 for 3 weeks (Disney ships are normally in dry dock for 2 weeks) is because they will be converting one of the pool areas to accommodate an Alaskan cruise. Then others say the ship needs many more mechanical modifications to the existing fleet in order to fit the bill to cruise up there (apparently the ports up there will not accommodate the larger ships like DCL is building for the fleet additions, so the new ships would not go there). So the speculation itself is extremely controversial.

I agree it would be great to have them go up there, but we have NO idea if that will happen or not. The itineraries and dates for 2009 cruises isn't even out yet, so it will likely be a couple of years before DCL announces if they will go to Alaska once their fleet size increases in 2011.

Which one? We had a reservation on Royal Caribbean for next summer from Vancouver to Seward, but decided to cancel and wait a year. We were planning to travel for another week in Alaska once we got to Seward and the price for all the add-ons was getting out of control - decided we needed another year to save.

If you are only going to take one cruise, I highly reccomend an Alaskan one!!
Be sure to take a North or Southbound one. You see more of Alaska that way. Take as much time as you can. There is so much to see in Alaska. We did a 10 day land tour and then a 7 day Southbound and still didn't see everything we wanted to see!!
I'd love to do it again someday.

Oh, so you've already gone!? Which cruise line did you use? We've done the Disney Caribbean cruise and the Mediterranean cruise, but I've never been on another cruise line. Yes, we planned on doing the Northbound cruise so that we can get off and tour on our own. I'm definitely looking forward to it.

We did the Carnival Spirit. I loved it. Perfect size ship. We had a lot of children in our group, so it worked out well with the kid's club. I also thought they had the best itinerary for us.

We picked the Southbound because it leaves later the first night, and we got the longest flight over with. We drove to Seattle after staying two nights in Vancouver after the cruise, then flew out of Seattle.
We went this past June. Make sure you see Denali!! It was amazing.

Here is the mountain, it was clear when we went.

WOW!!!! So many places to go . . . so little time and money!

My thought on the Med cruise - LOVED the Disney ship, but didn't love doing Europe by cruise. I found that I wanted to spend more time in each place - felt a bit rushed. Also, I like to wander around and sit and people watch, but really couldn't do that since we only had a day. We ended up doing a bunch of ship excursions - felt a little like a herd of cattle. If I had to do it again, I would cruise to the Bahamas or the Caribbean to enjoy the cruise experience, but in Europe, I would do it on my own in order to spend more time in each place. I haven't looked at the CCL itinerary, but I do know that Royal Caribbean's itinerary was close to the Disney one. We almost took RC since it docked in Venice overnight (Dis didn't go there) and it was quite a bit cheaper. Having said that, since we have 2 kids, the Disney cruise made it fun for them. I'm sure they were a little bored on some of the excursions, but coming back to the ship was great for them. PM me when you start planning each port - would love to help you!

Thanks for the info Jodie. We have done a DCL cruise several times. For us, I think a different line is better for the Med. I rather spend the extra money in the ports. I also agree that DCL works well in the Carribena when you are on the ship more. I think it will be nice if it ever sails to Hawaii, I'm not sure I would pick DCL for Alaska either. We were hardly on the ship.
We will spend a week in Italy before the cruise too. The CCL itinerary is also Italy intensive, which is appealing to us. I've been to other countries in Europe before. This time it's all about being Italian <G>.
When I know exactly what ports we will be in, I will PM you for advice!! I should be able to book it in December.
