Disney Cruise Line Disney Fantasy Announcement! The Aqua Lab and New Adult Water Area

I am a early riser but I really can't remember anyone doing laps in the polls, even on vessels where the pools are said to be big........only a few laps at best....

FYI.the *radar thingy*.is actually a satilite communication and navigation system dome.

The Starboard side of Deck 13 (beside and behind Currents) was for adults only on the Dream, but no one enforced it much. Pretty hot to just sit up there....the redeeming feature was a shower to cool off in. At least now, there's someplace to cool off, and the adult area there will be enforced. The Port side is for families.
I was not impressed at all, looking at the concierge sun deck. DCL needs to do something to make that area more attractive....not that I'll ever be inside there...;)

And I also don't think the new splash area for kids should be just above the adult area.

DCL is trying......not 100% successfully, but trying.

My dad swam laps in the adult pool when it wasn't full of people.

Yep...we know what the "radar thingy" is....it's just easier to say "radar thingy".:cutie::cutie:

So this looks like it will officially make that space on the top front of the ship adult only.

Does anyone else think that from the bottom picture they are extending out the concierge section? I don't remember it coming out that far on other pictures or on the ship itself.

It also looks like (from the blog photo) that the concierge seating area wall that faces this new adult splash pool may be clear, not opaque as it is now..???

Those pictures are just artist's renderings....like what we first saw of the Dream. They aren't pics of the final product.
I'm sure that the concierge area will still have the opaque walls. And there is a LOT of space up there on Deck 13....they have plenty of room to add the adult water feature w/o taking any space away from the concierge sun deck, and even with enlarging it some. But I'm betting it will be the same as it is on the Dream.

Currently, on the Dream, the port side of Deck 13 is for families. Unless they put the water feature for adults on both sides, but are only showing one side in the pictures, the port side will probably still be for families....which in my opinion was kind of weird, since it's right next to the bar.:confused3

Having just sailed on the Dream B2B, I can tell you the concierge sundeck was rarely used. I never saw people going up there, and if they did, they just popped up to see what was there and then came right back down.

I am not sure if the concierge sundeck is under-utilized because the cruises are so short and you just really don't have a chance, but we certainly wouldn't miss it on the Fantasy if they decided to do away with it.

I agree mmouse37. This looks like it will totally eliminate the adult sun deck that is on the Dream. My complaint wasn't so much no pool space, I found enough to cool off when needed, but trying to find a lounge chair, on any deck, on our sea day was tough. I'm hoping this doesnt mean less lounge chairs in the sun.

I just posted this on the Fantasy Pool update thread and want to post it here as well....

I am not complaining but making an observation.....by putting the family wading pool on Deck 12 they are completely eliminating a big seating area (that was always full mid-day on our 3 Dream cruises). Adult pool is right below in the pic.

Here is a pic of the area in the morning...no people yet, but later in the day it was crowded....the new wading pool will eliminate most of this seating. Also...since this area is right above the adult pool it was primarily used by adults...sort of a continuation of the adult pool area since there is hardly any seating by the adult pool. We enjoyed sitting in that first row and when we wanted we just went down the stairs to the adult pool. This area will now be open to families. I have nothing against kids (have a few of my own) but I imagine the area above the adult pool (and the adult pool area itself) might not be as tranquil as it used to be. Time will tell and I am glad they listening to feedback.

Or is the Deck 12 pool not going in where I think it is?????

And they are eliminating this comfy cushion area on Deck 13 (around the radar thing) forward with the new adult only splash pool....which was occupied sometimes and I think I do prefer this splash pool in this area.

Wondering if a better solution would have been to make the new pool area on Deck 12 for adults and make the new pool area on Deck 13 for families.

I am wondering about the locations also. Deck 13 is the only place to stand at the very front of the ship. I wonder if they will allow kids to be in between the plexiglass walls to still enjoy that view, or will they make the whole front of that deck adults-only? I know my kids love going there during sail away, etc. I hope they will still allow kids to that viewing area, but this new design will have kids walking in close proximity to two adult-only areas now. I know people did not like that kids have to walk through one side of the adult area on the Dream to get to the staircase for deck 13.

I agree, it seems more logical to make the Deck 12 wading area adults-only and have the Forward Deck 13 wading area for families. But I'm wondering if they didn't want to put a family play area right next to the concierge sun deck?

Hum, I guess we will have to wait and see how it goes when people get on the ship. I do agree that it is nice to see additional water areas on the Fantasy. Now if they will just release the 2013 dates so I can book ours :rolleyes1

I was just yankin' your chain and being contrary! :rolleyes1

And you are right about the pools. I've seen a few worthy of actual swimming, but that's not the norm.

I have a feeling that they'll leave the "family" PORT side on Deck 13 as it is. It was a good place to watch the fireworks also.

The Dream offers 3/4/5 days cruises which there are not many Sea Days thus the concierge sundeck is rarely used. However, since the fantasy will have a minimum of 3 sea days this section will be used.

I think the biggest reason the concierge sun deck isn't used much is because, they all have verandahs, so unless you want a tan, you already have your own spot to sit outside and read and relax.

Also, families with kids aren't going to be up there since there is nothing for the kids and they will want to be where the fun is.

Personally, it is a waste of space, if i was concierge I would never use it and I know many who wouldn't care about it either.

Ok here are 2 observations. On the dream there is no elevator that takes you up to deck 13 from Forward. You have to go to mid ship to do this. Will they be adding another floor to the elevator?

Also, right now there are only 2 places to smoke on ship during the day. One is deck 13 right where they are going to put the added water area in the forward. Where are they going to move the smokers now? Will it be like the Magic where one side is smoking other not. Since the quiet cove pool is totally smoke free.

Time will tell I guess.

One more thought - they can't do anything significantly deep on deck 13 toward the radar thingy, because any deep pool would conflict with the Concierge Lounge and possibly the Royal Suites... Maybe if they raise the deck a few feet, it would be more possible, but this is likely why they added an upright water feature here! This is probably also why the wading pool on deck 12 is no deeper...

These are additions. The Fantasy will also still have Nemo's Reef, Quiet Cove Pool and the Mickey and Donald Pool :thumbsup2

The smoking area on Deck 13 won't be compromised by the new water feature. The smoking area is before you enter (there's a wall with plexiglass) the sun deck section that will have the water. The smoking area is actually in front of Currents...off to the side of it. I know writing it like that doesn't make sense, but if you look at a deck plan, the smoking section is shown in the "bump out" with round circles indication chairs.
The worst thing about being up there is that there isn't any shade or rain cover.

Is that first picture on deck 12 where the family wading pool will go? :sad2:

When I was on the dream in March, we spent our "sea day" that was supposed to be a CC day, on Deck 12 soaking up the sun above the quiet cove pool since we couldnt dock to go to the beach. This area did get crowded, and it was adults only. There is not much sun by the quiet cove pool for the whole day, and probably only about 6-10 chairs totally in the sun.

I loved those cushioned loungers and I would be very sad to see that area above the adults pool now have a family pool, because the noise level from the donald and mickey pools was 10x louder then this comfy seating area was right next door. I guess that would make the "quiet" cove pool not so "quiet" with kids right above. I am not trying to offend anyone, but it was a nice area for adult relaxation away from the hustle and bustle of the midship pools and family area.

Maybe I am just confused? I hope
