Disney Cruise line came thru and did the right thing

Last month some of you may remember my previous rant about disney cruise dumping us with nowhere to stay for hurricane irma. I am happy to report that after a series of emails and phone calls disney cruise line apologized for their mistake and has reimbursed me the money i had to layout for the hotel stay at por resort when cruise was cancelled... I am the first to admit i jumped to conclusions to soon in my bashing of disney cruise line and should have given them more time to rectify the situation as disney world has always been known for its great customer service.
 

I'm glad disney came through for you. I know you took some abuse on these boards for complaining. I always thought dcl should have done more. I'm glad it all worked out.
 
They are not perfect, but I have found Disney's customer service to typically be as good or better than most any other company when it comes to dealing with problems (whether they are in their control or not)

glad you felt like it was resolved to your satisfaction.

Wow. I’m kind of shocked you were allowed to come back here and tell us this. Now other people will want their rooms comped, and can point to your case to back it up... That could be costly for the Mouse.

Allowed? They only comped me because i pointed out my many emails and phone calls before the cruise being cancelled so after they checked into it they agreed i would have not been in that situation if they had just let me cancel without the penalty.

Next time please buy 3rd party insurance that covers any reason from leaving home to getting home. That way you can be responsible for your vacation, and not rely on the extreme ridiculous kindness of a company who absolutely should NOT have covered your hotel. That's what travel insurance is for.

You were NOT the only one calling, you were not the only one impacted by this. If we all thought DCL was expensive before this year, it's going to get ridiculous for them to get back what they are giving out in situations like yours (and there were many situations like yours, so I assume umpteen people are getting refunded for something that's just part of traveling sometimes).

This. I frequently read people telling of problem resultion but being told that they were directly told they could not share numbers.
 
I think you misunderstood everyone’s point. Frequently Disney has asked people not to disclose any refunds or discounts that they have given to guests because of issues they may have had. This is because they don’t want the expectations and complaints to come back saying “well I read that you gave John Doe a refund because of a similar situation”. Before you know it everyone will be calling Disney demanding a discount or refund because something didn’t go their way or met their expectations. Because of their losses, fares and on board things eventually do go up or change.

You were very lucky to have received anything because of the wording in the cruise contract. You didn’t buy the right insurance to meet your needs. But if Disney did right by you, you were better off taking what they gave you and just called it a day instead of posting on a public forum.
 
Maybe he wasn't asked not to disclose. I've had issues resolved with disney, favors done by supervisors, and compensation. Never was I asked not to disclose anything.
