Hi all, I'm a single guy in my mid-20s. Here is the situation- one of my best friends is a doctor and is doing a one-month rotation on the Disney Cruise Line in March. On each cruise, he can bring along a friend for free, and I'm considering taking up his offer for 3/17-3/20 on the Disney Wonder.

Basically I'd just like to get some opinions on how fun you think the cruise would be for me. My friend would be doing his doctor work about half the time, so I would be fending for myself a lot. He did say I would be able to use the crew pool, the crew gym, etc in addition to the other areas. I'm fairly indifferent towards the Disney brand, so I probably wouldn't partake in many of those activities. But I would look forward to the pool and beach time.

A few quick questions:

1) I've read on this board that there is very little nightlife on board. Is it because everything shuts down, or because people just don't partake?

2) Regarding the crew...does there seem to be many young women that work on the ship? Since I might be spending a lot of time in the crew areas, I'm wondering about the chances of meeting women. Did there seem to be single women among the cruisers?

3) That weekend is the 1st/2nd round of the NCAA Tournament. Any chance of the sports bar on-board showing CBS?

I would appreciate any other advice or info, thanks!!

Hi Tony...

Unfortuntely I don't have any answers for you since I have yet to go on our first cruise, but wanted to say you should go since it's FREE!!!  Young, single and on a FREE cruise sounds like fun to me. If not, you can come here and take care of my family and I'll go ;)

If you go, have a great time!!

hi there! as far as i'm concerned, whether you're 20 or 200 years old, you're always a kid at heart when it comes to Disney! never too young or too old for this product.

the disney female crew members... i think i remember reading that they are asked to refrain from starting any romantic relationships until after their contracts end. i think this is part of their contract.

the downside of going as a guest of a CM is that when you do get chosen on WWTBAM, you're not allowed to participate because of the cash prizes. but going free is the upside...i would take the upside any day of the week!

DCL is not well suited for young singles unless you're a Disney fan. I think the nightlife would be outright boring to you. There are several filters working against onboard nightlife: DCL is a premium product attract us stodgy, older folk and DCL attracts families with kids who usually prefer to be in bed earlier.

There are lots of nice looking young ladies who work on board. I suspect they stay very busy with little time to socialize.

There is a sports bar on board, Diversions, with multiple monitors for watching games, though remember Disney owns ABC and ESPN so preference may be given to those channels. I don't recall whether CBS is available in the staterooms or not.

Anyways, it's free and it's only for 3 days. What do you have to lose? I wouldn't even be debating it unless you have a better offer to consider.

Sam

Hmmm....Ok, cruise or not to cruise...gee, what is the question?!! GO! Even if you don't meet the single woman of your dreams, 4 days on a Disney cruise can't be all that bad!
I haven't cruised yet but I can't imagine that if you have access to the crew parties, you wouldn't have any fun! Someone recently posted about their noise complaints from the 2nd deck at night ...turns out they were above the crew bar and pool and bar! There was one heck of an after hours party going on there!
Granted, this cruise may be filled with married women, we can be interesting for conversation, cheerleading the team for the big game, :cheer2: and maybe even dancing :cutie: (...and you may find that there are single females aboard too. I bet if you check in with the servers...they will know some inside scoop!)

HOLY COW I would definitely go because it is FREE!!!!! Even if you don't meet anyone it is fun. Maybe there will be another 20 something dragged along with family who could be the love of your life. Isn't how that works? Where you would least expect to meet someone you will....Anyway even if you don't figure it will be fun and just enjoy yourself.

1) I've read on this board that there is very little nightlife on board. Is it because everything shuts down, or because people just don't partake?

i went with my cousin on a disney cruise last summer. we were both 22 and yes, the ship is DEAD after 10pm as all the other adults go pick their children up and go to their cabins. the dance club was still open, but we were the only people in it! and with the prices of drinks, we couldn't get quite drunk enough to amuse ourselves

2) Regarding the crew...does there seem to be many young women that work on the ship? Since I might be spending a lot of time in the crew areas, I'm wondering about the chances of meeting women. Did there seem to be single women among the cruisers?

Cast Members are never allowed to get romantically involved with guests. You might luck out and find some single women crusing, but when my cousin and I went we were the only single girls on board w/o our families.

3) That weekend is the 1st/2nd round of the NCAA Tournament. Any chance of the sports bar on-board showing CBS?

There was an ESPN bar on the top deck that seemed to be showing lots of....sporting events (sorry, we don't like sports and only checked it out once to see what it was like). it was a very cool spot, really unique decor and was basically deserted at night, as most clubs there are, so i'm sure you could get them to put on CBS or whatever channel you wanted!

so if i were you, i would go, because it is free and only 3 days. also, whatever time you spend off the boat when it docks will be great fun, you can go parasailing or snorkling or whatever. but bring some books and be prepared to amuse yourself :bored: there is a movie theatre on the ship too which shows lots of movies, for people of all ages (i saw ladykillers when i was there), the live shows are all geared towards families though.

Way back in December the weekend edition of Good Morning America sent one of the male anchors on a DCL 3-day cruise to see how people would act with this person traveling alone (on a family ship no less). Needless to say, his hidden camera showed people thinking he was rather strange, his dining companions couldn't believe he was there with out any one else, the cruise director tried hard to find things he could do on his own, but with little success (she was not in on the set up). He found himself very lonely. ABC did admit to putting him on a ship with more families, and that a line that has "singles" cruises may be different. I think the story was on how people are social creatures and want to be with others.

Of course, you would be traveling with the crew who may be much closer to your age and might have other activities planned. It would give you some time with your buddy, a free cruise and a chance for some sun.

I would go. I did see and meet some other mothers that were single on the cruise with their kids. When we were in Cozumel, I saw some of the staff going out to have fun, so they must get some free time. I didnt even recognize them as staff , my daughter pointed it out. Go, there are a lot of young single staff members

Cozumel!!! Do I have a story for you! Several years ago, we did a Carnival Cruise, went to Cosumel, they didn't leave the port until 11 or 12 midnight!! We (there was 7 of us) this is probably 10 years ago so I was about 25 ish. We headed over to Carlos and Charlies!!! WOW, that place is a happening place, but the crew, expecially the femal dancers, they were loaded and it turned into a real sleezy (but kind funny event!!!), after about an hour of what we still shake our heads at, we headed over to the Hard Rock and had a blast, dancing on bars, etc. almost missed our ship! But the crew really let loose that night, (I am sure any single guy could have had a "date" with any of these women!!) and when you saw some of them the next morning, man did they look awful!

I am 24 and single and recently got off a 7-day cruise in October. There wasn't very many people my age that were single, but I did have fun mingling with all the married couples my age. I am a pretty outgoing person and can talk to anyone so it was a lot of fun meeting all the new people. I wasn't searching for love on this boat so I wasn't disappointed. I say go for it, it's free!!!

I would go for the heck of it!

I'm taking my first cruise ( 7 night) in april. I'm single 29. But I'm really not going to look for other singles though. I just want to go to relax and figured this would be nicer than the party cruise lines. Since I grew out of the drinking/partying to the wee hours of the morning a few years ago.

Hmm..well I guess if my dining companions can't believe I'm travelling alone I can regale them with my many years of travelling alone! :earseek:

Just go...have fun. Enjoy the ports and get a nice tan !

It depends greatly on whether you'll be more towards crew or passenger.
When we've been on the ship (even being married with two young children)
I couldn't help but notice that there very some very HOT HOT HOT young crew member . If I was young again I would jump on the opportunity to go with the doc on board it could end up being the love boat. :cool1: Not tot mention the price seems too cool. :cool1:
