Hello, now that my kids are grown I would love to go on a
disney cruise just adults. What are the cruises like in recent years. Is there an adult only space? Or will I feel like I'm not escaping children and getting the grown up break I am looking for?
I just cruised the Fantasy last week, and also cruised the Magic in October, both solo cruises. Prior to that I used to cruise with my son, who is currently too sick to travel. Here's my two cents:
1. These are overwhelmingly family cruises, so you'll be in the distinct minority. If you're okay with that, then it's fine. The CMs & everyone else will be fine with that. You'll be fully welcome, but you will very much be in the minority, unless you cruise an unusually long itinerary (like the Transatlantic) during the school year.
DCL's bread & butter Bahamian & Caribbean runs are family-dominated cruises. If you don't like seeing and hearing kids around, don't cruise with DCL. Kids will be around, seen and heard, in most of the ship.
2. Conversely, DCL does a very nice job of keeping the adult areas adult-only. The adult pool deck, upcharge restaurants, the spa, the gym, and the adult beach on
Castaway Cay are all genuinely kid-free. So you can definitely get your kid-free space on a Disney cruise, but that's only when you're in those areas. Dinner at the MDR (either seating), the live shows, lunch at Cabanas, etc., will all have lots of kids around.
3. DCL staterooms are attractive and comfortable, so they're a nice place to hang out and relax, in addition to the public areas. You might occasionally hear kids running or playing around in the hallway or the adjoining stateroom (try to get a non-connecting stateroom if possible), but I have never experienced that as a major problem in 8 cruises.
