So I found out today that you can no longer use your Target Redcard to say 5% on 3rd party gift cards including Disney (NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!). DH then had the idea about if there would be any benefit to using the Disney Visa. Is there really a benefit to paying for the cruise with that? If we got it for regular purchases, can I redeem the rewards for the cruise? I assume it's the 1% I saw on most purchases plus an additional 1% on some purchases if we got the premier card?

You cannot purchase Disney Gift Cards online with a Target Red card (recent change). You still can do it instore.

Yes, you can use the rewards dollars for your onboard account, not sure about actually paying for the cruise with them.

Current perk for putting your Disney VISA down for your onboard account, for cruises after Jan 1, 2017:
10% off "select" Disney Cruise Line Digital photo packages.
10% off select merchandise on purchases of $50 or more.
10% off the Castaway Cay Getaway Package.
20% of select onboard massages or facial treatments.

Yes, you can use Rewards Dollars towards cruise fare payments.

If you have a Premier card, you can also use the Rewards Dollars for airfare.

The onboard perks for a cruise in 2017 are listed above. If you are looking to cruise soon (in 2016), you can get a $50 beverage credit if you pay full cruise fare with the Disney Visa.

Enjoy your cruise!

Yes, you can pay for the cruise fare with the rewards. The rewards dollars are transferred to a Disney Rewards card which acts just like a gift card.

With either the regular or premier Disney Visa, you get 0% interest for 6 months for Disney cruises and Disney vacation packages (can't be a room only reservation at WDW or DLR, must be a package). With the regular card, you earn just 1% back but the premier card gives you 2% back on all Disney purchases.

Do you have a Sam's Club membership? Our Sam's Club sells discounted Disney gift cards. You can use your Disney Rewards to purchase them, so you get the reward credit and the discount for the card.

How much is the Sams discount on Disney cards?

I was able to buy $1,000 in Gift Cards with Red Debit (one time) but then got rejected tonight. I need to pick up $2,000 but my local Target told me I could only buy $200 at a time. Something to do with anti-money laundering? I'm just trying to pay for a cruise, not hide my cartel activity :) Oh well, final payment is November 27th, so I have 10 visits to make over the next 11 days. yikes.

EDIT / UPDATE - Actually was able to buy $200.00 worth tonight online. Tried, $500, nope, but $200 went through.

Wow, this is the first I've heard of the 2017 perks! Wish it started sooner as I cruise next month.

I wonder if I can combine the 10% with my Gold discount. Example: I purchase something for $100 in one of the shops and get my 10% discount, and then receive another 10% because I've linked my DRV to my shipboard account? That would give me 19% discount on Dooney &Burke bags. I do something similar now, in that I link my account to gift cards, which I've purchased at discounts ranging from 7-12% by various means. Combined with my gold discount I end up "saving" so much money because I SPEND so much!

@SuperLuckyMamaBear The Premiere Disney Visa really makes it worthwhile for us: 2% earned at restaurants, gas stations, grocery stores, AND Disney locations. So if you pay your Disney Cruise in full on your Disney Premiere Visa, you earn 2% (and have 6 interest-free months to pay). I find it is most worthwhile for us to redeem those points for air travel (5 of us flying). Then whatever is left over, we use on board with the points transferred to a Rewards card. We use if for all our gratuities, adult beverages and souvenirs. But make sure you only transfer what you are going to use onto the Rewards card bc they do expire and you cannot transfer them back (without a fee).

Good news! As of sometime last year, the Rewards Redemption Cards no longer expire. :) Once the reward dollars have been transferred to a redemption card they shouldn't expire. Reward dollars held in the account (not transferred to a redemption card) will expire 5 years from the statement month when first posted to the account.

(If you have an older redemption card with an expiration date, I'm not sure if it will still be honored past the expiration date; but you can purchase a Disney Gift Card with any dollars left.)

Enjoy your cruise!

Oh, wow! I did not know that you can purchase Disney Gift Cards with the Disney Rewards Card. Good to know! Thanks!

That spa discount of 20% looked like a great deal until I saw that it's for port days only. Seems like they offer a lot of on-the-spot discounts on port days already.

Usually use my gift cards that I bought at Target for on board expenses. I think I can still do that and just use the Disney Visa for whatever I owe at the end. It doesn't say it has to be paid for in full with Disney Visa, just that the Disney card is the default form of payment. So, should get the discounts even if most expenses are pre-paid, don't you think?

SPA:confused3 - I thought that we were talking :chat: about VISA, and Disney Gift Cards and Target and Sam's Club and DVA

You can also use your Chase Freedom for an additional 5% back at Sam's, up to $1500 purchased. BJs also had them online for the same discount. It works out just as good as the target hack, but only $1500 per quarter.

We were discussing reasons to use the Disney Visa in conjunction with your cruise. As per @PrincessShmoo's post about the Disney Visa perks, I was just commenting on how the spa discount might not be the screaming deal it appears at first.
