Disney credit card fraud

I thought I answered this in my post.

If the employee is skimming right at the register they would have to do it right in front of the customer and be caught on camera, which is not likely. Crimes like this aren't happening out in the open, they're behind the scenes.

Not true, I used to manage a gas station and one of the managers employee's was at the register. The manager's office was right there and she saw nothing. But the person brought in their card for the pump to be turned on. During that time the cashier rang up two red bulls and threw away the receipt. Well little did this cashier realize that the card belonged to a sherif. They did get fired.

In the past year we've had to get three chase cards replaced. One was replaced "just to be safe" by Chase with the target hack. Once I had a gas station alert go off while we were in our family room watching a movie. And once we had an email from Chase where the card was declined in NY. Not us either.

I have email/text alerts for a whole slew of reasons. Gas stations, money transfers, online purchase, purchases over $50. Yes, I get a lot of alerts on my phone, but I'd rather deal with a text than deal with the grief of a stolen card.

Home Depot announced that they have had a major breach, bigger than Target. If you used your cards there that may be the reason you are seein ghte activity. I got hit when target was hit but this time I am safe becasue we are saving for our Oct trip and cannot afford to spend anything right now

good luck to all who have had issues

Judy
Thanks for this "heads up" about Home Depot. Read the same thing on the web this morning, but didn't "connect" the dots???:confused3

Used Disney Visa in Home Depot, Aug 8th..Fraudulent transaction 19 days later Aug.27th? Maybe???:confused3 Frustrating thing is we will "never" find out "how" our credit card number was stolen!:furious:
Good "fraud" monitoring by Chase Visa in that the transaction was denied and we were IMMEDIATELY notified!:thumbsup2 So if something BAD happened, it was offset by GREAT service by Chase Disney Visa!

Follow up DBF reminded me we bought a new shower head at Home Depot and that tone he used his personal credit card because he forgot his Home Depot cats at home. Now he thinks whoever may have bought his info from the hackers were just smart because he didn't have transfer alerts set up.

Talk about timing - DH just walked up and asked him if I sent him to a store in Indiana last week for a few items. He was in Nevada. Then I see this thread! :rotfl:

I'd guess that I've had to get cards replaced 5-6 times due to fraud. It's a total PITB for sure.

Chase is VERY good at catching things.

I travel for business and the restaurants in Canada and S America all bring out the machine to your table. Really wish they would do that here in the U.S.

I agree. Love those machines in Canada.

Just before our last WDW trip, I was reloading my two teens and my Starbucks cards so we could use them in the airports along the way (long flight). I think I put $10 or $20 on each. I loaded the first one, then the second one (using the same credit card). By the third one, I got locked down and my phone started ringing.
B of A had already caught the duplicate charge and was calling to verify if it was me! I was impressed. Also, when I'm travelling I always call the CC company before hand and tell them exactly when and where I will be travelling. They add that info to my account so I don't accidently have my card frozen.

See, you found that convenient...I don't! We budget our coffee "treats" monthly. DS gets a giftcard and so do we. Often I forget to fill them until we're pulling up to Starbucks on the first Saturday of the month, so I want to fill DS's and fill ours. BofA constantly denies the second one, and I have yet to figure out how to move just *some* money from one GC to the other on the sbux app. This is a typical, usual thing for us, and it bugs me that BofA hasn't worked it out yet.

Also, neither our credit union nor BofA had freaked out about DH's work travel, which has been going on since 2009. I would be using the CC in WA while he used it in St Petersburg Russia, not a single peep. Even St Maarten wasn't a problem! Then we hit San Juan. Part of the US. And both CCs balked. :headache: Seriously? They could track us as we moved around, and it's part of the States, but nope. Had to call them. UGH.

Now we notify them, after several years of never having to tell them a thing.

My son used his chase card for the first tine at the student center ATM at georgia tech last week. Within a few hours charges started showing up and chase called him to confirm the fraudulent charges

They cancelled the card and sent him a new one and wiped out the charges, about$120

Crooks must have had a skimmer attached to the ATM but when I saw the charges and the sites contacted, it was obvious it was another student stealing the number.

My son, who was robbed last year of his backpack on campus, simply said, oh well, another life lesson

I use thin aluminum sleeves for my credit cards that you can buy at amazon
That way no one can scan you card while in your wallet and at disney I immediately put them in the safe and only take out when we leave

We hadn't used my husbands Best Buy card in over a year. I was in the safe at home. Every month, when paying bills, I always check online even the accounts that I know haven't been used. Boy, was I surprised when there was a bill from a Best Buy store in Chicago. We live in Pennsylvania. Items had been bought and then returned, but there was a balance of $25 on the account. I assume someone bought some computer programs and returned them and Best Buy charged a restocking fee. We called, they closed that account but it took about 6 month til they finally settled and completely closed the account.

Still don't know who or how the account number was gotten, but it can happen even if they don't get it from you.

After reading an article on line this morning about the MASSIVE Home Depot problem and the fact that it could have affected ANYONE who used any type of payment method since April 1st, this I believe was the CULPRIT on my Disney Visa! WOW!:scared1::scared1:

When I phoned Disney Visa yesterday in fact, before reading this mornings article on the web, there was a recording about the Home Depot problem and "they are monitorning the accounts carefully"!:scared1:

We used our Disney Visa TWICE at Home Depot since April 1st and the last was August 8th...Credit Card Number Stolen, Phony Card made up and ATTEMPTED to be scanned in Michigan.

WELL, GLAD that there were controls in place by Chase to REJECT the transaction! The "control" was an e mail alert which I happened to catch about a half hour later, but I since ADDED a phone number to my account in case I don't catch the e mail!:goodvibes

Latest news from Home Depot today said something like 53 million transactions were potentially affected between April 1st and August 31st of this year. Amazing that people have nothing better to do with their lives then to screw other people!
