We just returned from seven nights at the new JW Marriott resort in Guanacaste Costa Rica. I'll post a quick report with pictures separately for those those that are interested, but I just wanted to comment on what a difference there was in the level of service between the Disney deluxe resorts and this hotel.

We paid $250/night (which included breakfast) and the standard rack rate is about $400/night, so the price is comparable to a Disney deluxe resort (we have stayed at all of them in the last 5-6 years). It was clear that the sole mission of the staff at the JW was to meet your every need. Several times they went above and beyond. For example, one night we called to have some wine glasses and an opener brought to the room. Less than five minutes later Miguel was at the door with the requested items. He then proceeded to open the bottle of wine (which we bought in town since it was cheaper) and serve everyone in the room. After a few days when it became apparent we would entertain in the room nightly he made sure there were wine glasses and a bucket full of ice without us even picking up the phone. He even made sure the person covering on his days off did the same. All I can say is WOW!!

This is just one example of the great service we received. In my opinion, if Disney is going to charge $300+ a night for a room they need to provide that level of service. We would have enjoyed our trip even if the service was average, but this was the difference between enjoyment and an experience so pleasurable we will talk about it for years.

If Disney provided this level of service there would be no need for a Four Seasons on property (don't get me started on that topic) and spending time at the resort would take on a whole new meaning.

Just my 2 cents
