Disney costume problem...

My son wants a Disney costume for Halloween this year since we'll be in WDW. I've found what he is looking for but the problem is the hats are too little. (And they don't offer an adult size hat in the costume he wants.) Anyone else come across this problem?

If so, what do you do? The costumes are expensive enough without adding more cost.

Yes, we have run into this problem in the past few years. Maybe if you can tell us what costume he wants, we can help you come up with some alternatives.

My son was Indiana Jones last year for Halloween. We had a similar problem and just went to our local Halloween costume/party store and bought another hat seperately. DS never wore the that hat that came with the costume.

My son has the same issue with the Jack Sparrow hats, wigs and bootcovers. So, I convinced him that boot covers were not that important and that Jack lost his hat at one point in the 2nd movie and wore a bandana/scarve thing so that is what he will be doing. I don't have an idea for the hair & beading hanging out but I am hoping he will forgo that. He is being Jack for MNSSHP and we are taking him to pirate league for some extra help in becoming Jack. For the Jack Sparrow last year, we found a hat with the hair/braids in an adult size at an online costume store. He is using the same costume this year, but we are going with a pirate bandana on his head and IMO it looks much better! Just personal opinion though- I wasn't crazy about the hair in the adult hat version.

You know at Disney they do have the pirate hat with the hair and beading hanging out - you could pick that up when you get there. I would bring the bandana to be safe though.

Or for that matter you can attach beading yourself to a bandana.

I personally just like the bandanna. I was Jack a few years ago and will make a return next year when Pirates 4 comes out. I made my whole costume including wig and bandanna. Get a wig with dredlocks(any of the costume stores will have them) and a piece of dark red fabric. Wash the fabric until it is faded, or soak in bleach for a few minutes. Fold the fabric to make a long piece about 4 or 5 inches wide and tie it around his head. Make the ties in the back about 6 inches long. Don't forget to tie on some beads.


Found a picture of me as Jack. Most fun I ever had with a costume. Compare me to avitar. No one at work or Fallfest at church knew me. It was so much fun. Can't wait to bring him back next year.

We have the same problem. My DD (4) has a big head. At age 3, the Disney parks' child princess wigs were too small for her and she really wanted to wear the blonde Cinderella wig for trick or treating last year. I know buycostumes.com has an adult Jack Sparrow hat with braids right now for $16.99. We order from there a lot as she goes to a music preschool and that is where the teacher recommends for costumes for their program. I'm sure you can find them at your local party stores right now too. Debbie-TN I love your costume!!!!!!!

My DH has been Jack Sparrow for the last four or five years. We have yet to find a hat he liked that we were willing to spend the money on. Maybe this year will be the year...We used a Rastafarian wig with a bandanna and added beads and coins to make it look like Jack. Cut pieces to the length you want and add embellishments from the craft store! He has been a hit every year! This year it is looking a bit ragged, so its time for a new one.
