Disney considering $15 a night resort fee?

Mo money, mo problems .... :( I just wonder what Disney thinks their survey question will do. Are they trying to soften the blow by semi-announcing a $15 resort fee this way? Or do they genuinely NOT know that the average Disney goer is against more increases?! If my local restaurant sent me a survey asking me if I would mind if they started charging for the pre-dinner bread (which used to be free), I would say yes, I mind. And I would think twice about going there because it is now more expensive.

So what is the goal of this survey? Are they trying to thin the herd even more by starting a rumor of an extra charge of $15 since they are having some crowd problems? Or is there really a person in marketing who thinks people will say "sure, please charge me more for my already pricey vacation."? Maybe this is some reverse psychology to make people aware of the value they are currently receiving since Disney is NOT currently charging for these on-site perks? Or am I just overthinking this...

Since the survey is being geared toward a particular group, I am assuming that they are targeting a certain type of guest and wants to know how they would react to the institution of a resort fee. From what has been posted previously, there were some questions where a certain response would end the survey. One of them was if the responder answered that they had visited WDW more than once in a one-year period apparently.

Interesting ... so maybe it's geared towards DVCers or annual pass holders? Maybe they are finally trying to avoid offending their biggest affinity group. That would be refreshing :)

I'd be very surprised if this got a positive reaction in the survey anyway, so it's unlikely to happen.

A DVC or annual passholder would be more likely to visit multiple times in a year, so they seem to be going after infrequent visitors. I think it was misread - if you replied that you visited more than once in a year, you couldn't continue with the survey.

I doubt they will be charging a resort fee on a DVC reservation as DVC members pay monthly fees for such things.

" I'm very disappointed by this possibility. They recently raised the prices on almost anything they can. The whole purpose of the things on the list were to be "perks" or "incentives" to stay on property. And I'm sure long ago they were factored into the cost. To turn around now, and plan to add this charge is insulting. More of a reason to stay off property.... " Quote from Tiggr924

I agree.
Worse YET, the survey said the resort fee was ALSO for the Bene of 60 day FPs, AND resort entertainment & kids' activities!
Oh,, and for wifi, TOO!
Definitely insulting, & no way to opt out, based on ALL that it's suppose to cover.
I find it interesting that the Swan & Dolphin charge a resort fee of $25/night that is for wifi, 2 bottles of water, etc. ( Also a separate parking fee). YET the Swan & Dolphin include EMH and the 60 day FP Bene in their room rate,
and their Deluxe accommodations are much much cheaper than Disney's Deluxe Resorts.

I just booked a 3 night stay on site. I fully intended to book off site, but I kept running into "resort fees" raising the rate. I went with Disney since I'm blind to those fees (I consider them part of the high price of staying on site). If Disney wants to play that game, I'll look closer to staying off site.

If they decide to start charging resort fees for these 'extras' then that will stop us booking a vacation to wdw next year. We travel over from England and normally stay at AS Sports for two Weeks so travel costs and accommodation already cost a lot of money, and with the Other recent price increases and staff cuts we're already finding it hard to justify spending that kind of money on a trip. We haven't visited since 2012 and were looking forward to a trip next year :-( We never use dme and rarely use emh so it'd be wasted money for us too. Looks like we'll be seeing another part of the states next year!

I agree if they are going to charge a fee, charge for parking. Universal does. Heck, I am going to a meeting in NYC in two weeks and paying $65 a night for parking. $15 a night is cheap in comparison.

Parking fees are absurd. If I am paying you $2000 for the week to stay at your resort, then you owe me a place to park my car so I can actually stay at your resort.

Personally, I think if any fee should be implemented, it should be for ME. That has to cost Disney more than providing an existing, empty parking space. Oh, and ME is a better fee to implement because I don't use it. :rolleyes1

Yeah so this would be per person per room or simply an additional room charge?

That's very optimistic. But, it's probably more like...they already know they have the Disney die-hards on the hook, so they don't care about them/us.

I don't like any of this rumor, none of it. No, don't charge for DME. No, don't charge for parking, either. If the reason you charge premium prices for your rooms is that we get all these perks, then what is going to be the reason for premium pricing now? We're paying premium pricing AND for the perks.

So let's see, cutting back on staff, shortened EMH, cut down on room discount % as well as the number of rooms under the discount, raise ticket prices every time you blink and now this:( Just another reason to cut back even more on our trips to WDW. They are just becoming money sucking leeches. Heck, why don't they just create another very over priced desert party, there are plenty of umm.... people that will pay for it.
There are off-site hotels in the area that do not charge a resort fee, they may charge for parking but no resort fee. Holiday Inn Disney Springs, Lake Buena Vista Radisson and Double Tree Suites to name 3.

One thing I noticed about the survey is they set the Poly and Boardwalk at $350, which is FAR below rack rate. Is it more likely that

a) They are toying with actually reducing the rack rate, and implementing a resort fee? (This would be beneficial because when percentages are taken off, either military or normal discounts, you are still paying the full $15/nt, so Disney would actually come out ahead instead of lumping it all together, and then taking the percentage off)

b) They are trying to sway the survey a certain way by listing those resorts at a much lower number, so that it doesn't seem AS sticker-shocky?

c) They are using the typical after-discount price average just to soften the blow.

d) They pulled a number from 1998 to mask the fact that Deluxe resort rates are ridiculous.

I thought the whole point of me paying twice as much for the on-site hotel suite was to get the free transportation? How can they charge double+ what other rooms go for - and add a resort fee - and still think people are not going to be ticked off?

If it is like other hotels we have stayed at ( Atlantic City, Las Vegas, Coronado & Huntingdon Beach, CA) it is per room per night. In several of those hotels the parking is not included.
