Disney collection: How often do you book?

We might have some points left over, strange I know. My question is: how often do you pay the $95 fee to use the Disney collection resorts like poly and grand Floridian and is that an okay use of points? Are those places awesome? We have never been to them. Does anyone use points for the moderates? What are the booking window rules?

I would personally never choose this option as I'd rather just book with DRC, and hopefully with a discount. I stayed once at GF with my points back when they were a much better value for points and there was no fee to do so and we had a great time. We had bought tickets to MCMVP and it was wonderful to be staying at such a beautiful resort at Christmastime with the holiday decorations and to have monorail access. Back then the rooms we got were "run of the house" and we were given one of the few corner rooms that had two balconies, one overlooking the castle.As to whether to do it or not, I always think people should use their points however they like. What to one person is not a good value, is a great value for someone else.---Kathy

It is okay to use your points however you want to. It may not be a great value when you divide the $$ to get the room by the number of points required.

You will always get the most for your points by using them on a DVC room, but if you want to stay at the Grand Floridian using points have a wonderful time.

There are those who optimize their use of $$$ and those who optimize their enjoyment of life. And then there are those who optimizing $$$ optimizes their enjoyment.

Optimize those things you think are important.

Thanks for the responses. Points for gf are in the 40-50 per night. May do it once just to try it.

I say if it works for you this one time, go for it!!!! It's not like you stay at the Poly/GF all the time, right? If it were me and I really wanted to stay at the Poly/GF, then I would stay at the Poly/GF. Otherwise I'd end up somewhere else wishing I was where I wanted to be.

NEVER! I see no reason to stay in a "hotel room" or worse yet, a Moderate hotel room for mega points plus cash when I know by doing so I'll really miss the amenities of DVC.

We did a split stay in Oct Poly/BLT

My girls are 8 and 7 and when we walked in the Poly they said "where is the kitchen". While they liked the Poly and it was nice experience we really missed the space in the villas.

But, I am not sad, angry or disappointed that we stayed there it was a fun experience.

Wow. How long ago did DVD double the points required for gf and poly? When did they add the $95 for wdw resorts?

Wow how long ago was that? I have used points before to stay a CSR when there was no BWV,OKW availability, but that was about 9 years ago.
