Hi
DS and I will be at WDW next month

We are fascinated by the all the different States, and intend to try and meet a CM from every US State. To help us with our 'quest' I've designed a set of cards containing some general information about each State, and we will invite CM's to autograph their relevant card.

Here's where I need help. I've tried to include a Disney Character on each card too. For some States I've found an association quite easily, for example Snow Buddies for Alaska, Lilo & Stich for Hawaii. Some were a little less obvious to me - Mr Potato Head for Idaho (main crop grown). Bambi for Illinois (State Mammal), but I'm afraid I've drawn a blank for some States:confused:
Does anyone have any ideas which Disney Character could represent the following States please
Iowa, Missouri, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, North Dakota, Ohio, Vermont, West Virginia, Wyomimg.

Is there a crook you can associate with NJ? We've got the worst politicians in the world. :lmao: There is always some sort of corruption scandal - and yes, it does cross political lines so this is not a slam against Dems or Reps.
My DD just said Pete from the Mickey Mouse cartoons. He's always out to get people. :rotfl2: :rotfl2:
And before anyone gets offended, I'm a life long Jersey girl!! :thumbsup2

Oooh this is fun!

Well New Jersey is known as the Garden State.... perhaps you could get a picture of the singing flowers from Alice in Wonderland or use the skunk named Flower from Bambi?

New Hampshire's slogan is "Live Free or Die" and they're pretty serious about that slogan. So maybe choose a really free spirited character like Mulan? although she's from another country so...

That's all I have right now, I'll try to think of more. Good luck!

EDIT: Wait a minute!!!! Walt Disney's hometown is Marceline Missouri, isn't it!? Use the man himself!

Also, out of curiosity, which character did you choose for Massachusetts? :)

Ooh, cute idea! No ideas yet on the states you still need, but I'll be thinking about it...

If its not too much trouble, I'd be interested in seeing what you do have for the other states! :thumbsup2

Are you including Pixar characters as well? I think Bullseye would work for Wyoming.

They did a series of pins a few years back and every state had one. The one for Massachusetts had Chip the teacup on it to represent the Boston Tea Party. (Not to be confused with the group that has misappropriated the name.)

Yep. OP, here's what the pins had for the states you're missing:

Iowa: Rabbit from "Winnie the Pooh" -- he was a farmer, Iowa has farms, I guess is the correlation they were going for.
Missouri: Cinderella... I have no clue why.
Nebraska: Pocahontas. Maybe.. there was a lot of corn in the movie, and Nebraska grows corn? Who knows.
New Hampshire: Arthur from "The Sword in the Stone" - they're known as the granite state, apparently.
New Jersey: Flower the skunk from "Bambi", since they're the garden state.
North Dakota: James from "James and the Giant Peach". This one makes no sense to me.
Ohio: Chip and Dale.. again, no clue why.
Vermont: Snow White... maybe they were just randomly assigning princesses to states. ;)
West Virginia: Grumpy from "Snow White" - because of WV's mining.
Wyoming: Buzz Lightyear .. another one I can't figure out.

Thank you for your interest.

These are the characters I've used so far, (May I apologise in advance in case I offend anyone. Please bear in mind that as a 'cousin from across the pond' I'm only working with a limited amount of knowledge:blush:)
Alabama - Mickey in Uncle Sam outfit
Alaska - Snow Buddies
Arizona - Cars (Route 66)
Arkansas - Dopey in the diamond mine
California - Stinky Pete the Prospector
Colorado - Russell from UP
Connecticut - Mickey in graduation outfit
Delaware - Francis from Bugs life
District of Columbia - Mickey for president
Florida - the fab 5
Georgia - Minnie as a southern belle
Hawaii - Lilo & Stitch
Idaho - Mr Potato Head
Illinois - Bambi
Indiana - Lightning McQueen
Kansas - Woody
Kentucky - Horace Horsecollar
Louisiana - Frog Prince
Maine - Pete's Dragon
Maryland - Sebastian
Massachusetts - Mrs Potts
Michigan - Cars
Minnesota - Gopher
Mississippi - Todd from Fox & Hound
Montana - Koda & kenai
Nevada - Pack of cards from Alice in wonderland
New Mexico - Panchito
New York - Oliver & Co
North Carolina - Merlin & Wart as squirrels from Sword in the Stone
Oklahoma - Meeko
Oregon - Beaver from Lady & Tramp
Pennsylvania - Einstein (Great Dane) from Oliver
Rhode Island - Chicken Little
South Carolina - Crush
South Dakota - hoping to find a disney version of mount rushmore
Tennesee - Stitch in his elvis outfit
Texas - Buzz lightyear
Utah - seagulls from finding nemo
Washington - Johnny appleseed
Wisconsin - Angus MacBadger

I've chosen state mammals, or made links to a city eg Mrs potts and the 'Boston tea party' or Buzz "Houston we have a problem"
Very happy to hear any other ideas you may have

That's very creative, you've put a lot of thought into it!
I especially like the Alice in Wonderland cards for Nevada :thumbsup2
How about for South Dakota, use Sam Eagle from the Muppets? I think that's a good jump from Mount Rushmore.

An alternate for Oregon might be Donald Duck. Oregon is the only non-Disney entity authorized to use a licensed character as a mascot (at least as far as I know). The Oregon Ducks logo is a fighting Donald.

Indiana - Johnny Appleseed. John Chapman is buried in Ft. Wayne, IN.

I like the rabbit idea!

I'm from Iowa... the best character for our state is Miss Piggy. Her backstory is that she was a young beauty pageant contestant from Iowa!!!

CNN story on the history of Muppet characters.

The author of the Pollyanna book (on which the Disney movie is based) was from Littleton, New Hampshire--so maybe you could use Pollyanna for NH?

For Wyoming I would go with any cowboy type character. Even Woody would be OK. It is the most classic "wild west" state still in existence (when we lived there we loved on a true working ranch--totally normal) and they have a cowboy riding a bucking bronco on their licence plate.

Vermont is known for their cheese and creameries so maybe Clarebelle Cow would be good.

I know you already have an idea for Tennessee--but Davy Crockett would be good too.

I thought of another. I REALLY like using Walt for Missouri but if you do not want to you could use Tom Sawyer and/or Huck Finn. The books are set in MO and it ties in with the island of course.

Also I am pretty sure that Fess Parker played not only Davey Crockett but also Daniel Boone at least a couple of times on the old Disney TV show. If you could find a picture of that then Boone was from West Virginia.

Nebraska is pretty well known for their college football. Maybe Goofy playing football would work.

John Glenn was from Ohio--so perhaps one of the characters in astronaut clothing would work. Or, Annie Oakley was also from their so you could use Minnie in cow girl attire.

I didn't see Virginia in your list. Pocahantas takes place in Jamestown, VA, so any character from that movie would work, but I immediately thought of Governor Ratcliffe.

Did Disney ever do anything with the Green Mountain boys (Ethan Allan)? They're from Vermont.

Not a character - but something from the Hall of Presidents attraction for Ohio. I think Ohio has produced the most presidents.

Here's some suggestions I thought of:

California - Stinky Pete the Prospector

I think Roger Rabbit would be a better choice for California, since he's a Hollywood star and his movie takes place in Hollywood.

Florida - the fab 5

Dumbo would make a good choice for representing Florida, since his movie takes place there.

Georgia - Minnie as a southern belle

How about Brer Rabbit instead? The movie "Song of the South" takes place in Georgia.

Louisiana - Frog Prince

I'd pick Tiana for this one, since she actually lives in New Orleans and has lived there all her life.

Michigan - Cars

I'd go with Mr. Toad for Michigan.

Texas - Buzz lightyear

I would go with Pecos Bill for this one.

Wisconsin - Angus MacBadger

I would go with Clarabelle Cow for this one, since Wisconsin is a "dairy state".

As for some of the States you've missed:

-Iowa: Miss Piggy (as a previous poster suggested)
-South Dakota: Sam Eagle (as a previous poster suggested)
-Virginia: Pocahontas
-West Virginia: any of the Country Bears (Big Al, Henry, etc.), since music, including Appalachian folk music, is a big part of that state's heritage
-Wyoming: Jessie

Being former Wyomingite, I's suggest finding a replacement for Kansas. Wyoming is the Cowboy State. As a matter of fact, this week is Cheyenne Frontier Days - The "Daddy of 'em All!" It's the largest outdoor rodeo in the country. The Wyoming State Symbol is in my avatar and it is on every license plate from Wyoming.

For Kansas -- how about Flick? I just remember them harvesting the seeds and grain in the movie and Kansas is the bread basket of America.

As someone mentioned New Jersey is the Garden State and we are known for delcious Jersey Fresh Tomatos.... Good tomatos make good pasta Sauce..
so I suggest Lady and the Tramp sharing the spagetti!!!

Oh, I got a better one for Oklahoma.....

Cars. The movie is based on route 66 and it goes right through here. You could pick Mater. I swear, he reminds me of some of the locals around here. ;)
