Disney CEO 35% raise

Isn't this the way it works at most places? The people who actually know what's going on and are doing the work get the shaft. When I grow up I wanna be a CEO. I'm in for the mug swap - put me down for late November. I'll even pitch in to buy the mugs.

I understand the frustration of people making minimum wage, but the bottom line is that people are paid based on demand for their skills.
Anyone can sweep sidewalks or make burgers and fries or operate a Disney ride, so those positions aren't paid much.
Very few people have the skills and experience to successfully run a huge, complex, global corporation, so those who are able to do it are paid very highly.

Is Iger's compensation excessive?
I guess it depends on how you look at it. From a company perspective, they are going to pay him what they think he's worth to the company.

Under Iger's leadership, Disney's revenue was up 5% to 38 billion and their net income was up 20% to 4 billion. So one could argue that Iger's leadership helped bring in an extra 700 million in net income last year.

Everyone complains about CEO's making huge money but no one ever complains about professional athletes making millions or actors making millions. What's the difference?

If you don't like what they're being paid, do not patronize the venue and don't buy their stock.

CMs and other employees getting laid off, overall quality of the parks steadily going downhill, price of admission, food, souveniers going up, but the one person least responsible for anything good that happens on the ground gets 35% more money? Brilliant.

No one is forced to work there.

Quality is not going down, imho.

If admission was less, the crowds would larger. It seems to me admission price is directly related to demand.

If he's doing a great job for Disney, they have to pay him this or some other corporation will hire him.

I just hope some of the CMs got raises..

but I was cracking up with the mug thing..ya'll crazy!!

+1.

The market place/Disney set a price for his services.

Exactly!! :thumbsup2 I can't believe the childish remarks people are making and comparing their salaries to Iger's. Let's compare apples to apples people!!

Clearly, not a sports fan. Fans complain ALL THE TIME about how much athletes are paid.

Eh, did anyone think he wasn't making a lot of money? Some people work hard and get to a place where checks get larger. Good for him.

Hysterical. Every executive I've ever known was totally useless and got to where they are through connections. Some of the most brilliant people in my organization don't go anywhere because they don't play the under-handed games.

Uh oh this thread is getting dangerous.. Id like to put in for that mug for early Sept please, before it gets closed.. LOL

I do not expect CEO and mousekeeping make same money, BUT, when they cut people it affects my experience. When mousekeeping skips rooms just because they are understaffed, I feel like I wasted money on such an expensive hotel and start look elsewhere. So maybe they saved this year and now he owns part of this savings, but how many customers will leave. Also quality is not the best, prices are up, not exactly good business. I got my first PIN for up to 40 %. Great PIN, but when I priced it, wow, I can still do Bonnet Creek and rent a car, pay for parking and so on, for LESS. I do not know, I just feel like he is not doing a good job. He may bring people in parks with all those discounts but how many will return, it is like pushing to limits.

I think it's fairly obvious that people are returning, and that they will continue to return. Just look at this site.....thousands of people.

All these folks are overpaid. But at least athletes and actors wages are based on the amount of money they generate for their sport or organization.

I work in the aerospace industry and make a very good salary compared to alot of folks up here in Maine, so I feel very grateful. However, I still get a little upset when they use the economy as an excuse to give us $300 a year cost of living wages, while my benefits (insurance) cost go up $1000.

Disney isn't the only company that the top gets the big bonus money every year, they all do it.

If the took only $5 mil bonuses instead of the $10+ mil they take, they could toss $1000 into the pocket of the folks who actually need it. BTW.... never gonna happen.

This site is a tiny portion of all visitors. Some people go all the time, some for the first time and some go once in a blue moon but even here I read a lot about taking breaks from Disney. People used to return but I personally do not know how many will keep it with all the recent changes. Obviously attendance is low and this is why they run all those endless promotions.
I for the first time in years thinking about offsite and shorter trip with other Orlando destinations instead of spending all my money in Disney. Hotels are half empty. It is not a good sign.

I'm glad the company is doing well. Now... how about adding some rides to DHS, AK and maybe even Epcot? How about adding another park? I hope they don't just keep raising prices just because people will pay it. If raising prices is population control we are going to see $200 a day ticket prices in the not so distant future.

They were gonna rehire some CMs that were laid off last year, but put the money into refurbing Captain EO. Corporations have some tough decisions to make, eh. :confused3

If they add more rides they will need more CM's. Now refurbing Captain EO, they could've done without.
