Disney CareerStart Program CANCELED for 2011

My thing is they are having a Spring 11 program. I think they just canceled it for Fall 11 they have done it once before.

Not a clue but they canceled spring of 09 I believe or fall of 09. Which led to a lot of applicants in Spring 2010...since Fall 09 and Spring 2010 had to both apply for one. So maybe they are doing that again?

Hm. Interesting.

that program was created because they were struggling to fill the cp. economy was good. other companies had internships that were more appealing since it was directly related to a major. it was hard to fill all of the cp spots so they created this "cp-lite" program.

economy tanks. companies reduce workforce and cut corners. cp is still around. not so hard to fill those spots now. huge surplus of applicants as evident by the last several recruiting semesters with all of the pending people (pending have always been around, just not that many)

no need to have careerstart now.

it was never huge. i think recruiting told me less than 200 people at WDW. no idea about DLR. either way, it was far from a CP sized program. it won't make a big impact overall, but some of those who are pending and are told at the end that there isn't a spot for them it sure will.

they did do something similar before and it came back the next semester. I would think that if it was definitely gone that their sites would be too with a note indicating that it has been discontinued. instead it just says that they are not currently recruiting.

Yep, it was Fall 2009. My DD graduated in May 09 and wanted to do CS that fall before she started college, but since they canceled it she ended up taking online classes in the fall and doing the CP in Spring 2010.

I wish I had done CareerStart, I learned about it like 3 days after I had sent in my acceptance letter for my college... Otherwise I would have just gone to WDW instead of my first semester at college!

I think having the careerstart isn't needed but still a good idea. A lot of CS people are older than 18 and people seem to forget that. Without the CS program I wouldn't be going back to school. Even though my whole reasoning for going is to do the CP. But I learned if I want to have a decent job at Disney I will have to get a degree. Not everyone who wants to work for Disney goes to college so the CS program was a good outlet for these types of people. (Myself included) I don't think it's gone for good though I think they are just taking a semester off. It really makes no since to have it in the fall because it's only 4 months. (Sept-Jan) so if they have CS in Spring only which is Feb-Aug. I could see that because there's really no reason to have a 4 month set of workers and very few CPs go that late.

Yeah, it just sucks for those people that had their hearts set on it! Now they have to wait or somehow take a college class to do CP. Sorry for those people!

To AshleyKay who said: I wish I had done CareerStart, I learned about it like 3 days after I had sent in my acceptance letter for my college... Otherwise I would have just gone to WDW instead of my first semester at college!

You did the right thing continuing your education. Disney needs people who have demonstrated that they can be committed to improving their abilities and who are able to master additional skills. You education will give you distinct capabilities that will set you apart from other job candidates. Don't underestimate the power of a degree or continued training from any reputable source!!!

so, I just found out about the existence of the Career Start program and have a few questions.

I understand the CSP gives u work, housing(at a cost), and also offer college credits.

so, what is the difference between the College Program and the CSP?

does the CP have u as a full-time student and pay for your schooling?

how does it all work? please help. :/

The difference between CP and CS is that the CP is for people in college, and the CS is for people who basically have just graduated from HS. Also, there are limited roles offered for CS (and the program isn't always offered- it has been canceled in the past). For the CP, you just have to be enrolled in school (either PT or FT) in order to be eligable for the program. Your school doesn't have to give credit, but then you would probably need to take a semester off from school

I've had my heart set on applying for the Disney careerstart program since I first learned about it in my sophomore year of high school. I just graduated this June and I've been so excited to be eligible to apply. In fact, just today I was talking about how happy I would be if I got accepted and be working at Disney. I went to look up what I could possibly need for living in Florida (planning super ahead) when I read that the careerstart program was canceled. I have never felt so crushed or sad before. It felt like my wishing and wanting for 3 years was turned to dust. I literally started to cry in front of my family and I couldn't stop. Even though, I feel very sad and hurt and awful, I just can't give up. I'm going to try and have faith that the program will come back and I will be jumping on the bandwagon as soon as it does.

I would definitely have cried too! But you're not completely out of luck! you could still do the cp! Especially if you already plan on going to college. If you don't, take a p.e. class or something else from your local community college(can even be online i hear) and then you'll be elligible for the cp! Whichever you choose i send pixie dust your way and hope you get to live your dream of working for Disney!:wizard:

Just do the CP. It only be a few more months of waiting
